I use my phone in austin, tx, but also in Chicago when I'm there. I've never had anything but solid signal when in both cities. So I guess its a your milage may vary kind of thing.
Yes, yes, yes I know you can still connect and I know the "network" is still up and I know you can still p2p the client and get it else where. It was an attempt at humor. Some of you got it, others were clueless.
Why do people insist on using cash and not just using your bank atm?
There is no need to carry tons of cash around with you anymore. Use credit cards responsibly and you won't have any problems. I'll maybe only have 10-20 bucks on me for when I absolutely need cash, like at fast food places. But even that is going away. There is no need to carry around tons of cash anymore and don't use your debit cards.
Secondly, I never use mall or gas station atms. They charge 1.50 and more per transaction on top of what my bank will charge. Belong to a big bank and only use the bank atms that are everywhere. Its safer and you avoid charges.
I've been out of contract with AT&T for awhile now. I got a letter asking to sign up for another year but refused. There has been no increase in bill and no automatic signing up for a new contract. I'm using an old phone that I will be upgrading soon but it will also be changing my plan so I'll probably do a contract then just to keep the price down. I don't want to change carriers.
For every bad experience stated online there are thousands that don't have any problems at all.
I've had complete opposite experience. AT&T is the only wireless company I'll use. Its mainly sprint or AT&T where I'm at. The sprint coverage area may be larger but I get perfect AT&T reception in the same area where other sprint phones drop calls.
"After that little ordeal, I ask to speak with her supervisor who finally cancels the phone, credits my account, and says she will be sending me a paper copy of the whole transaction for my records. By now i've wasted two and a half hours of my time."
So in the end after moving it up to a manager and only 1 phone call you had the problem solved? And yet that eliminates using AT&T forever for you? Gee...I'd hate to see what happens when your car breaks down.
"It seems to me that most consumer users don't need 2+ GhZ chips, but marketing over the years have told consumers that higher clock speeds always equate to better chips, even though that's a myth that Apple has worked hard to counteract."
People don't NEED a lot of things. Its not about needing. Its about wanting. People don't NEED cars, people don't NEED big screen hdtv's, people don't NEED video game consoles. No one NEEDS a pc.
But many people WANT a 2+Ghz PC. People WANT the very latest video card, even if it does cost $400. People WANT big tvs and cars.
I wasn't comparing anything, I was responding to a comparison made by the parent.
But if you want to compare the ability to stream mp3's of one device to the same ability on another device then tivo is way more expensive. Which is what the whole topic of the thread is about anyways, the squeezebox.
Using your reply you could also say that the original slimp3 device doesn't apply either when comparing price as long as someone already owns it.
"We wonder why insurance costs so much... It's because of hidden fees and bullshit that the medical industry decides to make a quick buck on."
I think one of the major reasons insurance is so high is not because of this but because of the incredible amount of money doctors have to pay for malpractice insurance. That gets passed onto patients as jacked up service prices which the patients insurance covers and then jacks up their costs to offset it.
About 2 years ago or so I got a survey from Netflix asking about video game rentals. I assumed at the time that they were going to eventually offer them but nothing came of it.
People like what they like. Whether it be food or a good book. Stating one likes Coke over Pepsi is no different than when people debate over which movie or book is their favorite.
People don't debate politics as much because it turns people off. Someone can like one candidate or another but on a whole they are all slime. Same thing for other hot topics. People realize that debating certain topics is a good way to lose friends over something thats stupid. But talking about their favorite pop or other drink is more tolerable and no one is going to offend someone because one side likes coke but the other person likes pepsi.
"In fact, any time I mention Coca Cola's market dominance my 20something peers immediately jump into a defense of its superior taste. Hint to them: you are drones."
Hint to you: It does taste the best. Pepsi is nasty. Pepsi commercials are really good but that doesn't influence me or millions of others to run out and drink Pepsi.
I also happen to think that some car commercials are really good also, but no way would I ever buy the car they are advertising.
I guarantee you I'm not alone in thinking the way I do.
Actually any PC built on the latest intel 865 or 875 chipset can boot off usb drives. Get one of those cheap USB key chains and make that as your emergency boot disk among other things.
I had a big problem going from SNES to N64, dreamcast or playstation. The multiple buttons and 3d perspective really made games more difficult and confusing. The perspectives and graphics weren't good enough to trick my brain into thinking that way yet. Also being out of school and employeed leaves me with less time to actually play these days so my skill level and reflexes aren't anywhere near what they were when I was in school.
Fastlane wasn't that bad of a show. The action scenes were pretty cool and it was very fast paced. The Andy Richter show was very funny, but I could never remember when it was on so I rarely watched it.
Not really valid for star wars stuff. In order to legally use the star wars name and sell your book/story etc, it has to go through Lucas who ok's it. Which is totally different from fan fiction.
It also doesn't help that the show was downright boring. I honestly gave it a shot and watched 3 episodes, but I was asleep after the first one. Chalked it up to just being tired and watched another episode. Found it just as dry as the first one but figured, hey...why not give it a 3rd try, 3 strikes kind of thing.
By the 3rd episode I saw I said to myself, this thing is gonna be cancelled. Which sucks because I was looking forward to it. I didn't have any expectations except for it to be an entertaining tv sci-fi show. But it failed miserably.
Portable CD players are completely different from minidisc players which this new sony device will resemble most as far as the game medium going.
I've run, shaken, flown, and driven with my minidisc player with zero skips. Skipping will not be a problem with the new sony portable.

Fraud like this can be EASILY avoided.
Well I guess thats one way to stop P2P usage. Destroy the only good kazaa client.

Tivo is a lot more expensive also. Just to get the box and lifetime subscription. Then you need to pay extra to get the home media option.
Have the device format it or require a pc to format it. Treat it just like a floppy.
Does dell supply support on using microsoft word or does the user have to call microsoft? Will dell supply support for Half Life 2 or Doom 3?
The spyware removal software is not dell software, they shouldn't have to tell people to download it or how to use it. Its not their responsibility.

Ack, dammit, your right. My bad.
It also says that 85% of the calls are from corporate customers. So either the average Joe doesn't have problems or doesn't even know who to call.
or innies and outies

"Hmm...I wonder if that is what they meant when they called it the Windows XP Game Advisor. That you needed XP."
I think the point was that XP is not required to play any of the games that are currently out. So why limit the "advisor" to only run on XP?
