How about a little fact checking before articles are posted and made to sound like its a worldwide problem? What is this fark?
From the article: "Three major brand hard drive vendors - Seagate Technology, Maxtor and Hitachi Global Storage Technologies - have started recalling some of their 40GB and 80GB products sold in Taiwan due to similar defects identified in the products, Taiwanese channel distributors said."
KEY WORDS: "sold in Taiwan"
About 12,000-15,000 defective hard drives are estimated to have entered Taiwan."
More key words:
"It is unclear whether the same groups of products, with an estimated defect rate of 10%, have also been marketed in other parts of the world, sources said."
So unless you do your shopping in Taiwan for HD's to use in the US don't get your panties in a bunch.
I've had a Maxtor 80GB ata 133 drive for more than a year now and haven't had a single problem with it.
And still if you have digital cable you still will run into problems because the cable box does the decoding while the tivo does the recording. It is a far from convenient solution for the majority of the population who have cable and cable boxes. If tivo would just license their software to motorola, scientific atlanta and the other cable box makers they would see a HUGE increase in tivo users.
I've got a scientific atlanta DVR cable box now and it doesn't even come close to the abilities and stability of a tivo box.
Everyone is blowing this so far out of proportion its crazy. No one cares. The only people that care about these benchmarking applications are the people that write them and the web sites that use them. The general public could care less and probably doesn't even know they exist. All that matters is little Joey gets a new video card and its fast so he tells his friends who then also goes to buy the same card. Anyone with half a brain knows that these benchmarking applications are nothing but one sided. Real life performance never matches up to what the numbers say.
People are downloading it just because they can. They aren't really using it as a replacement to seeing it in the theater. Those people that do had no intention of seeing it in the first place. They are losing no money off people downloading this. The quality of the download is horrible too. It'll be on DVD come November just in time for the final one anyways.
BS. Cheaters and those that make the cheats are nothing more than criminals. Illegally reverse engineering copywrited software. You should be treated the same as others who crack software. It is currently illegal and you should be dealt with accordingly. You have no honor. You do it because you get a kick out of ruin other peoples fun. You are the lowest of the low. People like you are not smart, you are just lonely little morons who will eventually get whats coming to them.
Instead of saying "fix the game" how about you send the game publishers stuff you find instead of abusing what you find. Its like saying I killed that man to prove that the gun worked.
Hey you got to pick your battles. There is no evidence of the DMCA being reversed so you might as well try and use it to your advantage the same way companies are using it against individuals. A law is a law until its repealed.
"He boasted that in 24 hours he could crack sophisticated software filters designed to block spam."
So isn't that in violation of the DMCA? Or am I stretching it? If he said he could get around them then its different but he specifically said he could crack them.
"Investors also seems worried about increased competition for the Gameboy Advance, in the form of Sony's PSP handheld."
Then the investors are stupid and really don't know anything about the market they are investing in. The sony thing won't be out till late 2004, you can place pretty good bets on it not showing till 2005. 2 years is an awfully long time and you can place another bet that nintendo will have an updated gameboy out by that time to compete. Why would they announce it now and give Sony a heads up into what they are working on?
I have a dedicated dvd player, but when I tried the ps2 one I never had a problem. My dad did initially, but I bought him the dvd remote that came with updated dvd software for it. That fixed all his problems.
"The last time I tried downloading a pirated ISO was when C&C generals came out - after my virus scanner had identified 1 virus and 2 trojans inside the file before the ISO download was 40% complete, I decided that installing the warezd version wasn't such a great idea."
Must be your bad luck, I didn't have any problems at all. Generals is a fun game also.
People actually wasting money on this game or people actually liking it.
I wasn't about to drop cash on it but I wanted to see what it was like, so I did the next best thing. And I'm glad I didn't buy it. I installed it, played it for an hour, said to my self, "self, man this game really sucks". Then proceeded to uninstall it and throw-out the cd's I used to burn it. Waste of good plastic. Probably the only "coasters" I've ever burned on my PC.
So if I am in the elevator and I'm signing a song that I don't own the lyrics too I could be arrested for breaking copyright laws? Its basically the same thing, just a different medium.
Just one more way they are alienating their customers. Pretty soon they won't have any customers left to complain about.
And its my money. I'll spend it as I wish. Just because you don't want to run in super crazy hires doesn't mean that someone else doesn't (or shouldn't).
For you, no. But for me hell yeah. I'm still on a Geforce 2 with 64MB of memory on a 800Mhz P3. I'm looking forward to these new cards cause I'm building a new machine at the end of the summer specifically for half life 2 and doom 3.
This guys first mistake was using a debit card for a major purchase. Why people use these things I'll never figure out. If it was a normal credit card all he would have to do is challenge the charge with his credit card company and they would deal with it and the problem would have been solved. Its a lot harder to get money back from wrong debit card charges.
If your going to install phone also you might as well just run another cat5 for the phone also. This way you can carry 4 lines on one cable if you need to or you can convert it to carry network if necessary at a later date. I've got cat5e throughout my entire house that handles network traffic and my phone.

My PS2 plays dvd's as does my dads. So I don't know what your problem is.
Probably because the only people that use those formats are people on the internet. Yet everyone (internet or not) knows Microsoft.
The game industry is in as big of a funk as the movie industry as far as original ideas goes.

Just because its on the dvd medium now doesn't mean the quality is dvd quality.
People are downloading it just because they can. They aren't really using it as a replacement to seeing it in the theater. Those people that do had no intention of seeing it in the first place. Moron.
Doesn't the disc spin in the opposite direction on the gamecube also?

"what more could you ask for..?"
Less cheaters

All-Stars was a graphically enhanced mario also which I thought looked really good. I would love to Nintendo to start doing compilation carts again.

I'm going to correct myself, it DOES physically cover the nearest PCI slot, sorry 'bout that.

The new nvidia card does not take up 2 slots. They did away with the huge fan and cooling system. Article...read...
"The fan is much quieter. The huge leaf-blower cooling solution found on the 5800 Ultra is now history."
