  1. tip the balance on Electric Car Environmental Impact: Power Source Matters · · Score: 1

A simple change to ICE would tip the balance in the cities. Stop the engines at traffic lights, and use a better designed starter motor to get them going when the lights change. Works well for diesel engines.

Sept 2003 Prius, 300k+ kms, original battery, still drives me to work on a 100km trip per working day. Hybrids didn't seems to be mentioned in the original article, they don't draw power from the grid, it is just about reusing the energy that is usually lost in breaking etc. Overall if you do the driving, hybrids are good, else, buy a smaller car.

  8. not surprising on The Passing of the Personal Computer Era · · Score: 2

no surprise here! people bought computers because it was the only way to access the net and play games, now they can pay less and buy a phone or tablet and not have to have a space available for a computer. And computers will still be bought by people who still need the flexibility and apps that can't be provided by a 'smart' phone. It's the way that the market has gone. My guess if that it's the end of crappy cheap computers as people invest more to get the power that isn't available in a phone or tablet.

I have dealt with Austin for many years, he can be a total ass-hole. There doesn't need to be links etc. the x-plane forums, X-Plane.org, will have many references to stupid changes made to the product just because Austin wanted it that way, not because it was better. Silly programming errors that persisted for years, suggestions that were rejected, usually with abusive emails, that were later implemented. Nope, Austin can be a total crap pile, and nothing will change my opinion, that's why I stopped using x-plane. And it worries me that anyone would bother to defend him, especially someone who has not communicated with him for any length of time. All he has to do, in this case, is either drop X-plane for Android, or find another copy-protection system.
