MS is following when it should lead!. The Xbox is fine, competing with sub $100 media boxes is a waste of resources. Get the OS right, and I also mean right price, and it would be much better than spending resources across many products. STOP it NOW!
A smart bird would have made a tool that could do the job ten times, and not a new tool each time. I have seen docos showing mainly birds using tools to get grubs out of holes or use stones to crack nuts, I think that we under- estimate how smart animals can be.
The camera was, in the end, rebranded Fuji product. They were good but not exceptional, in a growing market made up of people that had photography and not computing as a business. The rest of the items were trash on the fringe with nothing to make them worth keeping, they seemed like a good idea at the time. The article is a filler with none of the real Apple product dumps, like OpenDoc and Pippin, showing up.
the iPad and iPod-touch are a console. They are built like a console, they are as closed as a console, just because they are using software that is also sometimes useful doesn't exclude them from being consoles, they are like a PSP, just a little thinner.
stating the obvious, I'd also guess that Apple will sell more hardware with MacOSX and derivatives (iOS) than there are MS Windows equipped devices, or UNIX(-like) systems will rule them all!
do people really expect a Pad to be the same as a PC? I know that that is an image that is showing up, keyboards, external touchpad etc, but a Tablet/Pad is just a machine that does the routine and fun things, not full-blown Office work.
Apart from a limited comparison on base prising, ending that section with 'OK, so we’ve addressed costs of ownership' yer, right. It goes down hill from there. Sorry, still waiting for a real comparison and not a product announcement.
flying machines were already being developed (just needed fine tuning), gliders were woking, balloons were flying, the telephone was in use, electricity was lighting and heating homes, and the 'robots' were talked about as part of industrial fantasy. As nice as these are, and I'd like a set too, they represent many of the common thoughts of the future.
I'll be divorcing myself of most electronic technology and moving off the grid for about 50% of my living time. I'll be retiring, poorer because of the money spent on technology that 'improves' my job chances, which I will not need as I retire. My house will be small and cheap to run, and I'll be dependant on a pension and my wife/best-friend. We already own the land and a 'building' It is just a matter of renovation and careful planning.
it won't happen because that would bring Apple too close to being a real monopoly force in the industry, and that would bring on more regulation by Governments etc. Just as MS needed Apple in the old days to be able to say that MS didn't have a monopoly in the PC industry.
for some unknown reason there were IBM360 manuals at our local library and I was possibly the only one who looked at them. Computers? we had watches, and log tables and... that was it. my first year at Electronics was done with a slide rule the second year we could have a no-programable calculator, but that was it. The year that I got married, 1978, was the year that I had a log-in and started down the slippery slope of 'personal' computing.
how do you think that this stuff usually gets around the world? in containers, on ships. What makes you so special? Packed the way that you received them when they were new and you should have few problems. But the handy hints are, Remove Expansion cards, if you can. Shake the box and if you hear a rattle, repack. Back stuff up and ship the back-ups in hand luggage or just get someone to hold onto them. Photocopy serial numbers and software activation code, in-case you need to rebuild. buy Insurance and read the exclusions. Personally, I wouldn't bring printer inks.
My stuff is about to do a 2.5k km road journey, so I understand your concerns.

I am thinking of buying the upgrade because it is so cheap. Possibly the only reason for moving out of XP.
can't use ice-cream sandwich, it makes my teeth hurt.

So if we get past 100%would that create a black hole that sucks in energy for everything around it and ultimately would destroy the earth? Just askin'

there is no way that a post like this could appear on /. without fart jokes, and not much more. Just can't stop smiling.
buy or set up a linux firewall, keep the Windows box patched.

isn't that what Passbook is supposed to do? present the item that matches your location.
bought a finger mouse on ebay few years ago, although it was not as sophisticated this this one, it was very similar.

neeet! Not a fan of hackers, but if WoW had a way of doing this then sooner of later it would happen.

If MS starts thinking about the user, they may change the Win8 UI settings to allow users to turn the tile interface off. OH NO!
lots of places have capped plans, without crashing the on-line video industry. What a load of crap!
