I know it's not Netflix, but you can do that with Amazon's Unbox videos. You can order them on the website and they'll get automatically delivered to your TiVo. Seems to work pretty well when I've tried it. There's also a rental model instead of purchase, though I'm not sure how that works with TiVo.
That said, it is Amazon and for some folks around here, they're automatically disqualified as an option.:)
Heh, I was having my wedding rehearsal on campus a block away when that happened. It's a bit creepy when the cops show up and tell you to keep the doors locked in case a homicidal maniac managed to escape the building he was holed up in. It's also nice when the newspaper headline from your wedding day says something like "8 Hours of Terror".
We also found it sobering when, the day after our wedding, the chapel where we were married held the memorial service for the man killed in that attack.
I just finished KOTOR 2, right on the heels of completing KOTOR. (Ok, I was a bit late to the party). I actually enjoyed KOTOR 2 more than the original, but I think that was in part due to the improved UI. They fixed just about all of the little things that bugged the heck out of me and starting KOTOR 2 the day after KOTOR 1 made the UI fixes very important.
I also found the story in 2 more engrossing than 1. My only complaint was that the last world was a bit simple and ending the game with a big expository speech was kind of weak. The rest of the game, IMO, was more enjoyable to play than the first KOTOR.
I was thinking the exact same thing. I've been working on a restaurant review website in my spare time, and there's no way I could afford to pay for validation or submission of restaurant information like Google can.
On the other hand, it is an even greater incentive to try to build a community around the site to help keep information up to date. The little guy may not be able to compete against Google, but perhaps a bunch of little guys working together can.
But it's well known that writing top-N lists is the easiest way to get your article on Digg and pull in the ad revenue. The masses demand easy to digest, light on content top-N articles.
The fuel industry claims that the costs of installing temerature-adjustment sensors on every pump would be prohibitively high.
It might be the case where it really is prohibitively high, if it's the gas station owners that would be paying for it. They sell the gas at very thin margins, making more money on bags of chips and bottles of water.
I use my iPod in my car with an FM transmitter occasionally and find that the iPod's interface is totally unsuitable for use while driving. Using the scroll wheel, it's very hard to accurately pick out a particular item from a menu without looking. I'd rather not use the thing than pull over to switch songs or pick out a different podcast.
Has anyone had luck with more integrated iPod-in-the-car options? Perhaps one with buttons?
The dreamcast controller is also pretty nice and the dpad is great for fighting games although hardcore gamers will still prefer a joystick.
The thing I didn't like about the dreamcast controller was how the cord came out towards the player, not towards the TV. You lost a good 4 or 5 inches of cord length there.
Speaking of cords, it always seemed that my playstation/PS2 controller cords were just a little bit too short for wherever I lived. To me, stock wireless controllers have been one of the best things with the latest round of consoles.
I loved the game, too, but I was only 7 or 8 at the time.:) It was the first computer game I really played, on a C64 at the Boys Club. My parents soon bought us a Tandy 1000 EX and gave it to us for Christmas. I remember them surprising us with it with the Ghostbusters game playing on the screen. I played a ton of that game.
The article doesn't mention it, so why was this time of use rate requirement added to the law? Was it a result of energy industry lobbying? Did the state legislature just not do the math?
Yeah! I mean, look at how cut scenes brought down that nickel and dime Final Fantasy franchise.
Well, the cut scenes were one reason I never finished FF VIII and stopped playing the series after that. Generally, the best thing about cut scenes is that you can usually skip them.
My main complaint seems like it's already mentioned: ugly form widgets. The first thing i do when I install Firefox on a Mac is to run it through Firefox, which pretties-up the form widgets.
All true, but the fact that people wait until the deadline is not news. True. A woman from the IRS said (IIRC) that almost 20% of filer wait until the last day.
What I remember about Windows 95 is a four inch stack of 3.5" floppies that I switched in and out for a few hours during installation. Now that was a good time.
"She says she hasn't recovered since an incident when members of her family tried to clean up her mess." That's not a very good argument against neatness. Of course when someone else "organizes" your stuff it's going to throw off your whole system. However, it could be the case that the person in question's mess was infringing on the rest of her family's organization. In that case, you just have to take one for the team sometimes.
Put down the laptop, turn off the cel phone and leave your work behind you! That is what a vacation is for! That's what your official vacation days are for. If you can get your work done in a more exciting locale than your cube, you shouldn't consider it wasting a vacation; rather, it's improving upon work.
Most likely, the survey meant that a third of console users are adults What it really means is that just over a third of adults who go online own a console. That's something completely different from what the slashdot headline says.

Good point. I was going to say, "The goggles, they do nothing!", but Wikipedia told me not to. Bad Wikipedia!
"My eyes! The goggles do nothing!"

Remembering is the opposite of dismembering. It's just that sometimes you forget that you left one of the legs in the freezer.

We probably don't have to wait until they grow up; I bet lawsuits are already in the works.

No, not the senator; it's named after James Webb, Commodore Governor for the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador for 1760.

Now what's a busy executive supposed to do when you're giving them a presentation? Actually pay attention to you?
What I remember about Windows 95 is a four inch stack of 3.5" floppies that I switched in and out for a few hours during installation. Now that was a good time.
Now your employer will use that against you in your next performance review. :)
