    All these posts, and I haven't seen anyone point out this tiny little detail, including the OP -

    The brainchild of top FBI counterterrorism officials Phil Mudd and Willie T. Hulon, according to well-informed sources, the project didn't last long. It was torpedoed by the head of the FBI's criminal investigations division, Michael A. Mason, who argued that putting somebody on a terrorist list for what they ate was ridiculous -- and possibly illegal.


    Much more fun to just bash the government than actually find out the facts, eh?

    Oh really? It sure feels like our local school district (in CA) is generating new dollars every single time an election rolls around with yet another round of school bond measures. Perhaps the bondholders can be pressured into following IBM's plan - 15-year interest-free loans - so my property taxes can go back down.

    This "model student" must have been absent the day they discussed "worse" vs. "worst" and "your" vs. "you're".

    There are cars out there that have that ability today, and you don't even need special equipment to listen to the "music" (usually rap, for some reason) these other drivers choose to share. Just pull up next to them at a stoplight, and listen to your heart's content.

    I'd be far more interested in technology that could prevent the guy next to me from playing his music so loud you can hear in the next zip code.

    ...this "Lead Developer" at IBM will discover the wonderful performance benefits of pooling database connections, rather than open a new connection every single fricking time he hits the database. No wonder he saw a massive performance increase when he learned how to cache the lookup values.

    And what's up with the "obj_" prefixes in some of the code listings? Newsflash: Java is an object-oriented programming language, and most competent Java programmers can figure out that a variable called resultSet probably isn't a primitive. You don't need to waste another 4 characters pointing out that fact.

    The slippery slope argument boils down to one statement - "today they block kiddie porn, tomorrow they block everything else they disagree with". But is this a valid argument?

    To get the answer, ask yourself one simple question - has the censorship of kiddie porn in Real Life led to the dire restrictions on other free speech rights being predicted by the doom and gloom crowd here at /.? If censoring kiddie porn in hasn't led to other restrictions on free speech in Real Life, why would you think the end result would be any different in cyberspace?
