Public libraries do not get their books / music / movies for free. They pay a lot of money for them. I think the materials are licensed to them for this specific type of distribution. They are basically a subsidized blockbuster.
It has been a while since I used my library card, but to get it, one needs to sign a bunch of agreements that I believe state that they won't copy / distribute any copyrighted material.
I'm hazy on the specifics, but it is much different.
Zoink!?! "The Island" was not good. Not even close.
Bad Boys II was the epitome of what an over-the top action movie should be...well actually, Transporter II was, but BBII was pretty close. Regardless, it was fantastic. Those types of movies don't need to make sense. They aren't suppose to. They are just suppose to be non-stop in your face action. Don't confuse these with 'real' action movies like Indiana Jones or the original Die Hard, where the story is and characters are as important as the action.
He is very hit or miss. If you go in to be entertained (via his action movies) he won't disappoint. If you go in wanting to see a serious or semi-serious story then...well...just don't go to see the move.
YES! It is terrible on Comcast. But I'm not sure if it is actually the cable company or the networks themselves. I'm leaning toward the networks.
Either way, it sucks big time. Great, you have a 720 or 1080p TV. Too bad the image looks like crap (though much better crap than SD TV).
The only really good channel I've seen is Showtime in HD, followed closely by HBO in HD. Seriously, watch a football game or something on NBC and then watch a movie on one of those channels. Like night and day.
I hate MS as much as the next guy, and I certainly hate advertising a hell of a lot more. But it is also my personal opinion (from what I've read) that though it may be deceptive, it is no more so than 90% of the other crap out there.
But you're right, this is why we have courts and "the system". It keeps everything in check. At least it is suppose to.:)
Yea...but this is what all advertisements do. Some take it to extremes. But all do it.
As a kid, I remember the He-Man and Transformers adds. Yea, there is a disclaimer that says the special backgrounds don't come with the toy, but boy did it make it look like that toy was 100 times more fun!
Any food add shows you how great food is at a fast food restaurant or family restaurant. Never once will the food you get look like the food on the commercial.
Any fitness commercial will show you how you will lose weight by using their gym / food / whatever. But are any of those results close to what you see on TV? no.
So how is this any different? Yes. The PC will run Vista...maybe not as well as you had liked though. Likewise, yes the toy is fun, but maybe not as much fun as it looks. Yes, you will lose weight if you follow the strict regiment like you're suppose to, but probably no where near the amount they advertise.
All HD programming have no bars. They are formatted properly.
Any movie with anamorphic widescreen will also have no bars.
The only issue is with low def TV...uses old format as expected, or with movies made with "non-standard" aspect ratios. Some directors prefer using a wider angle lens, others less. Not much can be done when doing this if you want to preserve the theatrical version of the movie when it comes out on DVD.
You're funny. You think a Republican Congress = budget surplus.
What do you think we've had for the past 6 years? That worked out real well. Lets see, what was the difference when we had the surplus... oh yes! A responsible president. Can we get one of those again?
You do realize that the article linked is a Reuters article. Reuters has nothing to do with MSNBC...kinda like the AP. It just happens to be on MSNBC, which by the way is more NBC than MS.
Say it with me... Think, then post. THINK, then post. I know you can do it.
Actually, isn't that exactly the opposite of what a book is suppose to do?
I agree, for important characters, scenes and actions, the more details in books the better. But isn't the basic idea of a book to let the READER'S imagination decide what the character looks like? Or how a sword fight unfolds, or what a valley looks like? In those situations, I'd much rather have a general description from the author and let my mind fill in the gaps.
Unless it is intricate to the story, don't waste 10 pages on something that should only take 2 to say. You don't need to write 3 pages of a song that is boring and has nothing to do with the story. I get it, the Hobbits like to sing with that Bombadil (sp?) guy! Once short song is enough.
I'll get jumped on by a bunch of people, but IMHO the wheel of time series is far superior to Tolken's for this exact reason... ignoring a couple of the latest books where Rand walked across a room, Elayne took a batch, and Nynaeve was surly as usual.
But if you like it, don't criticize others for not enjoying long hours. It is a personal preference.
The whole "you have no right to complain because I do X more" is crap. He or I or whoever has ever right to complain if they are in a position requried to do something they don't want to do it. You do, however, have a right to criticize if that person is exposed to the situation for a long time and does nothing about it.
Yes. And most people right out of college should be having fun and enjoying life. If you think work is everythign and that is where you spend all your time, then you're going to miss out on a lot.
The only exception here would be if that is your thing. If you love working where you don't care that you're not doing other social, relaxing activities, then by all means do that.
However if you plan to spend that much time working, I'd try to hook up with a start-up or small company that will recognize your work. That way you'll be compensated for your time. At the big company, they will pat you on your back and give you the standard 3.5% yearly raise. (I have no idea if MS or Google is that way, I'm talking in generalities here...)
IMO, there is nothing more valuable than free time, non-work time. You would have to pay me A LOT of money to give up my social life to work...even if it is fun. Never mind the fact that my current job is making me do that...but the compensation is there (and it is temperary), so I'm ok with it.
Good luck. You know what you want / like. Choose the job that will fit your view on life and your lifestyle. No one can tell the the correct answer, cuz you already know it.
Wow, you must be the most elite person ever. Do people divert their eyes when gazing in your general direction? We lowly surfs dare not even attempt to have a normal conversation with you, as we'd all be exposed for what we are.
Don't forget to cleanup your man-gook when you're done stroking your ego.
I never really got into Enterprise... I tried, but the writing and acting just never sold it.
With that said, can anyone give a quick summary of what happened in the series and how it ended? I saw the first couple seasons, so I know about the tempral war (or whatever) and they went into some temperal rift or something?
Don't tell me then pulled an "it was all a dream, and everything you jsut did never happened" ending...
"The future is in the 'data stream' online and anyone who hasn't realized it, is still working off a 1995 market analysis."
So you want to transfer HD-DVD content online for a 2 hour movie? Do you have and idea how much information that is, and how long that would take and how insecure it is to the movie industry? Apparently not.
Everything can be quantified. If not, Vegas would be out of business. They create odds on everything from people dying to if construction projects will be done on time.
How do they deterine that famous person X is 3 times more likely to die than famous person Y?

I swear cable companys exist just to piss me off.
I did too. "quite a few" as in a significant portion of their user base or like .1% of the accounts open on gmail?
I'm guessing the latter. Meh.
I could see that. I'm with you on this.
:)

Nothing to see here...move along.

Stocks are like baseball cards: pieces of paper with collector's value.
...said the man who doesn't understand the stock market or how it drives the economy, and how the economy drives the market.Nor would it be true.
See the GF post was funny because it was true. Your post woulda be dumb because it isn't.

Yea, that is a good point. Those women sniff so much, you'd think they were perpetually sick.
Ahh well, I hope that guy doesn't die. Stupid cancer.

Hmmm ...go to the Sun web site and look at the the licensing under which they make Java (Sun's product) available...
So go to a company's web site, and look at code from a product they own, posted in a forum that they own...
The little voice in my head that tells me about things relating to common sense is saying that what you just described is not remotely.
Dude, you don't watch Battlestar Galactica? What kind of /.'er are you? Shame...
Sounds like you need a better job.
But if you like it, don't criticize others for not enjoying long hours. It is a personal preference.

Uhhh... Wha? This isn't a real ftp link. Something tells me this is a bit planned for.
Actually, they had bad intelligence and put there army where they though the Germans would be... but unfortuantly they were wrong.
So the Germans out-flanked them swept behind and marched on Paris. Rather than let Paris (and its history) be reduced to rubble, they surrendered.
Romulans? That is dumb. I thought the first time that humans ever saw the Romulans face to face was in TOS...
I never really got into Enterprise... I tried, but the writing and acting just never sold it.

Statistics is a crazy thing my friend.
