Seriously, who gives a flying rat's ass? So the library looks like a library somewhere else. Gee, I bet that never happened before. Maybe I'm just not articulate enough, but I have been in many libraries with many strikingly similar layouts. It could have something to do with the way books are organized in principle, who knows... and again, who cares?
I mean hell, some companies, like Oracle, are extremely expensive to deal with, just as much as any open source support, and you have to pay extra for the software itself.
Also, is your open source solution going to last 5 years? When's the last time a Microsoft product lasted 5 years where you didn't have to pay for extra software?
Why is it still happening? How are these judges rewarding these people? Correct me if I'm wrong, but they're bascially saying "we invented this and let everyone use it for 10-15 years, and now we're going to sue you all for not paying us, when we didn't even charge anything in the first place." How is this not being laughed out of court?
I want to play the CD ripping geek who spends all of his time finding the perfect audio settings and making everyone's albums into MP3's. Except in the movie, I'd want them to write in a bunch of playboy models who would be my "assistants".
Does anyone else think it would be a great addition to Slashdot's stories if they would include a link to the google news search under every headline? I don't think it would be that hard to automate, but it sure would open the door for us users to see a lot of different articles per issue discussed.
Sounds like they mean they want to store related information in a redundant way so that if one part of the network goes down you can still access the info. Like a RAID array.
"FLAKINESS." Here's the most compelling reason to abandon Motorola's PowerPC chip: It's falling further behind in the speed race as Intel's chips leave Motorola's in the dust. It's true that this race, to a large extent, is baloney, since Pentium and PowerPC chips process information differently. Yet, as Steve Townsend of technology consultants EMA Inc. puts it, "the megahertz myth is a difficult one to overcome." In particular, it creates the impressions that Macs are somehow less powerful than PCs.
OK, so because the general public thinks they're slower, Apple should abandon them? I think Apple needs the PowerPC to be one more thing that sets it apart. Macintosh computers are great and extremely thoroughly designed. The PowerPC is efficient and robust and I'd take a 1G PPC over a 2G Pentium any day. It's not the processor speed alone that makes these computers tick, it's the overall computer design along with the way the processor can handle inputs from all the different channels.
It's a huge issue at Clemson University. There, tailgating for football games is a way of life. Up until 9-11, most people would go to the game, then go back to their tailgate spot during half-time (who wants to watch a band?). We'd drink and eat more, then go back to the game. Well, Clemson outlawed pass-outs (funny name, considering all this drinking), which means you can no longer leave the stadium and return, unless of course you buy another ticket.
This isn't all that important to the quality of life, but it's a good example of an institution making a profit oriented rule and hiding it under the false label of increased security.
Well it was a shameless plug, but yet again I submitted the story, and in better english, a LOT earlier than it was posted, yet I was rejected after about 5 minutes. So I put it on my site, and then I see it come up on slashdot in the afternoon, so, basically, I was just pissed.
Everything we write in to support will be the first thing they take more control of.
for them to make something better than PS3 and Xbox they sure don't have very far to go.
Jigga what?

I'd like to see some good cartoon sex in the evenings.

Are there any pictures of this thing out there?
The same day that this story is posted, Whitney Houston's new album is leaked to the internet a full month before its release date. Awesome. Die RIAA, DIE!
I use trillian, and most people I know use AOL. A few use Yahoo. I've not met many people who use MS messenger. This seems like a non-issue
"resistance is futile" campaign?
*whack* ... he's dead alright...
Ok, so they can turn food into power, now all I need is a delorian that goes back in time and I'll have a perfect life!

The RIAA has sued radio stations for pirating music

Damnit, at least you could have given me some credit for submitting that link instead of attaching it to another story. Thanks a lot.

Neither through threats or transgressions?
There is evidence Iraq funded the Al Quaieda network
There is evidence Saddam is researching intercontinental missiles
Saddam, this week, publicly threatened the US if any more sanctions were added
Every other day Iraqi's fire upon US airplanes patrolling the no-fly zones
I Don't have the evidence to back this up, but I know it's true, and we will all see when this is all over with.

Like I said, I'm VERY tall. 6'4" is above average, but still within limits. Have fun in your VW. I can't even fit in smaller SUV's, like Explorers.
I got an SUV because I'm very tall and my head hits the top of all cars I try to drive. Does that make me a bad person?

I submitted this story, as well as posted it on my slash site, around 10 AM
