  1. Dooku/separatists on Star Wars Episode II: The Book Review · · Score: 2, Informative
Since Timothy seems to be confused about Dooku-here goes. MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD

First of all Dooku left the Jedi Order after the Battle of Naboo. He left because he felt the Jedi betrayed themselves by serving the corrupt republic.

Dooku joined the separatists, because, in a nutshell, the Republic is dead. The bureaucrats rule, not the voters. So Dooku wants to secede from the Republic and create the Confederacy of Indepnedent Systems.

Here's where Darth Sidious comes in: He (as Palpatine) creates the clone army to counter the Separatists' droid army (secretly), and later, to eliminate the Jedi. Also, the separatists are kind of a conglomeration of guilds and unions like the Trade Federation, Techno Union, and others.

Finally, Dooku is described as a fencer, and he uses a lightsaber with a curved handle. And he can use Sith lightning. And yes, I bought the book on April 23.

One of the best parts to me seems like USB support. Instead of having to buy a 100 dollar special keyboard, just plug in a usb one. Same goes for mice. I personally despise Graffiti, and almost always use my StowAway keyboard or the onscreen keyboard (for Visor)

PCMCIA support is great too for 802.11b and things like that. Now if they can keep the price less than $700 or so, it will be perfect.

  3. What About Tiberian Twilight? on Command and Conquer Generals · · Score: 1
Apparently, Westwood has given up on the Tiberian Sun Series. C&C was Dawn, then Tiberian sun, and C&C 3 would have been twilight.

IMHO, I thought the idea of alien (?) lifeforms and cool technology far more interesting than an alternate past or future (Red Alert et al). The titans, MLRS's and such were much cooler units too. RA2 was fun, but the AI was the real problem. Too Predictable. But since killing terrorists is en vogue, it'll definitely sell.

Don't you mean 1.3 billion Chinese? Also, regardless of whether they use Linux, dumb terminals, or that Other Operating System, this would be a huge step forward for free speech and democracy.

Although it's not likely to happen anytime soon, having China connected would more than triple the percentage of humans that use the web.

Exactly. The treo and things like it such as the Palm VII and i705 have thousands of apps available for them. Also, what happens when your RIM's battery dies? There goes a day's worht of email and faxes.

I'm sticking with Palm OS based PDAs, like my monochrome visor deluxe, at least until color screens get affordable. Also, you can get Palm.net for only $10 a month. Also, the Palm VII is now just $199.

  12. Try the Pentium III Tualatin on How to Build a Fast Air-Cooled Quiet PC · · Score: 1
Intel's new .13 micron P3, the Tualatin core, doesn't need active cooling, only a heatsink. PC Power & Cooling sells the Sleekline 1260, a mine 1U sized pc, and it merely has a heatsink with two tiny case fans drawing air through it (inside view).

Unfortunately, you need a mobo with the i815 b step chipset, which has a very limited life span. Of course, your cooling mileage may vary.

  16. No, OS X doesn't deliver on Linux Promises, Apple Delivers · · Score: 1
Apple's OS X is a good operating system at heart, but can't Apple at least finish the darn thing? Those DVD-R drives on the new G4s are really useful as plain-jane cd-rom drives aren't they? OS X doesn't support cd burners or regular DVD-ROM drives either.

Also, the "Classic" emulation apparently doesn't work well, because Apple is throwing in a copy of OS 9.1 as well. Because of these problems it isn't even shipping on new Macs until summer.

  18. Multimedia doesn't add up on New Sony Clie: PalmOS Is Back in Style · · Score: 1

Let me get this straight, 2.5 hours of video on a 128 meg memory stick? Yeah, right. Even DivX uses 600+ megabytes to hold that much, and no 33mhz processor can decode MPEG-4 (or MPEG-2), so the video would have to be MPEG-1 or AVI which isn't compressed at all. Who wants to watch grainy (because of the coarse resolution), 10 fps video on a 3 inch screen? Also, the only possible way to cram 4 hours of mp3s would be to encode them at 64 kbps or lower, which is FM radio quality, and besides, Sony hates mp3s because of their ties to the record industry. Other than Sony's outrageous claims, sounds like a winner if they can keep it less than $500.
