1. Price. I am about to start my 5th year of college. That means I have 4 years of student loans already. I cannot afford $2,000 for the low-end model G5. College kids buy cars for less than that!
then use your student discount. $1620 if you can live without a superdrive. Hell, you can get a ghz g4 for about $1100 if you shop around.
2. If you don't like it, you're stuck with it. theres always eBay, if you can't stand it. Macs have always seemed to hold their value pretty well.
Over-punishment is a common crime controll technique - a $45 fine for speeding is rediculous when you consider that you diden't hurt anybody, but the point is that the fine is suposed to be large enough to descurage you from doing it again.
where do you live? i think i want to move there. The cheapest ticket i ever got (st. louis area) was $65. My girlfriend got one in detroit for $130 for (i think) 10 over.
It may make you feel all warm and fuzzy to think that, but Apple wasnt the first company to make a laptop with a 17" screen normally, its good to cite your sources when you refute a claim like that.
Current powermacs have usb2, its simply not implimented yet. Someone devised a hack that would impliment it a few months ago, but i haven't heard too much about it since. apple doesn't push usb2 since they have a finacial interest in pushing firewire. They are probably only 'giving in' to the usb2 movement because most usb controllers being fabbed now are usb2.
The reason there is no mp3 option is there is no real way to protect mp3 files...the labels had to sign off on this, they demanded some type of protection. None of these legal download services would exist without some type of DRM.
If Gates has a net worth of about, what?, $45 B, i'd assume that Balmer has at least $1 B. If i was in Balmers shoes, i'd cash out and spend the rest of my life trying not to dance on camera.

that should explain why you should wash your hands.
The second reason is, have you used a public bathroom? It's not like people are careful or anything (hell, they don't have to clean it up). Modern public toilets are all about remote sensors and the like...the less stuff you have to touch the better.
perhaps you missed the point. the previous poster was attempting to knock the guy for using 'unsigned drivers'. what i was trying to communicate that often official, nonbeta drivers are not signed. Honestly, i could give two shits whether or not MS signs off on a damn driver.
The place i used to work had a few 8600's...much more memory on them though. yeah, they had problems....know why? They were still on the original operating system that shipped with it. Never had a wipe and reinstall, and hadn't had a point upgrade run on them for years. They'd do stupid things like this all the time. In your situation, i'd wager its not the hardware, but the lack of upkeep thats the problem.
as for the comment about why anyone would choose a mac, well, some of us like them. And if personal perference is too difficult a concept for you to grasp...well, i guess that explains you posting AC.
Nearly every time i install something on my pc i get the warning that my driver is unsigned...The last time i upgraded my Radeon 8500 driver (from ATI's website, not some tweak site) i got an unsigned warning.
Mormonism was once considered a cult, and its based on christianity. 'Cult' is generally a term used for small religions. Hell, christianity was once considered a cult.
My vote for the worst was during the network tv showing of police academy, when g.w. bailey's (i can't believe i remembered that) character says to steve guttenberg "Nobody (PLAYS) with me."
i kinda felt the same way when i saw the guy shooting the imac at a firing range a few years back. Mind you, that one was still relatively new at the time.
I believe i read somewhere that Apple did pay some licensing fees to xerox (woah, just noticed...Xerox-PARC....XP, eerie) or that they had some type of licensing / use agreement. And its not like Xerox ever complained about it.

well, both the America's Army game and UT2k3 demos both had Nvidia sponsorships behind them. There was the story a few months ago about Doom 3 being shown off on some new ATI hardware. I'm sure there's a significant amount of resource sharing between the both of them.

$1k seems a bit much. I just put together a pretty damn good system for $800, mouse and keyboard included, and still feel like we overdid it.
But hell, you could buy a $500 system from walmart now (with an agp slot, mind you), slap a Radeon 9000 in it (about $100 - hell, crucial's selling its 8500le for $110) and play just about any 'modern' game.
yes, its still a bunch more than $200 for a console, but you can also do productive-type things on a full-fledged computer.
Also, don't forget why developers push hardware with new games (programs, operating systems). To sell new computers and computer parts. Once 'good enough' happens, the industry will dry up and there will be even less games and hardware available.

That's mainly why i still rip to mp3.

Theres actually 2 fm devices from griffin, the tuner and the tranmitter. Either is $35. The wired remote with tuner is optional for the Zen at $70.

10.2 was a full installer, i don't think they ever made an upgrade-only version (hell, you could make 10.1 a full installer by removing one file)
i dunno, perhaps every few months when someone posts that MS is giving away student licenses (or selling for $10) you didn't speak up.
