I have 5 moderator points today, and they will all be used on this story, provided people keep sending links to photos of the G5. Other links seem to just have the specs, not actualy photos. Can I get some help here?
We just gotta stay ahead of the Apple lawyers.
cheaper version of the same watch for $179

Fossil licensed this technology, but Abacus makes a cheaper version for $179. Not quite as cool looking, but quite a bit less money to shell out.
see, i did almost walk out during the orgy scene. but i decided to give the movie a chance.
i have rarely been more disappointed in my life. to me, the movie was just a string of too-long action scenes interspliced with bad acting, bad dialogue, and inconsistent plot. after a while, it just delved into absurdity. (spoiler ahead) i even felt guilty when i was laughing uncontrollably at the highest climax of the movie, when neo somehow goes inside trinity's chest and removes the bullet, then massages her heart back to life. that was the breaking point.
i wish i HAD left during the orgy. i can appreciate some artistic quality that the scene did have. but i made the oath that i would never watch that movie ever again. most likly i will never watch the third movie.
and i will never complain about star wars episodes I-III again.
yes, because i can always use more government regulation. i need the government to regulate my bowel movements. that way, i can be sure the quality is better.
i was wondering the same thing when i was deciding on my next laptop purchase. you wanna know the site that put me over the edge and go apple?
www.macosxhints.com
im still a relative osX newbie, but this site has been great for all those kind of little tweaks i grew to love as a linux user.
but most of the time i dont have time for the fun little tweaks here and there. i want an OS that will do what i want it to do, and i want it fast. thats really where osX beats out linux, in my opinion. linux is just a beast to configure. im no huge expert on linux, but i did use it solely for 2 years. i just hated spending 6 hours trying to config samba so i could share files with the other dorm windows machines. never did get it working... and all the help i ever got from the community was basically rtfm, with no word on which manual that might be.
i really have enjoyed my switch. i cant imagine going back.
You don't make sense. I've traveled, and what is happening in China is not my fault. Any society of people have the choice to do things as they wish.
I never said any of this is your fault. Just like none of it is directly my fault.
What I am saying is that people have problems that are inadvertantly created by our society, of which you and I are both a part. If either of us owns computer hardware of any kind, then we are partly to blame for these conditions.
If China wanted, they could make money and NOT destroy their own environment. They are the powers over their own destiny.
See, that's the problem with communism. It doesn't work like that. When you aren't given the tools to succeed, you just can't do it.
I've traveled...
I wasn't talking just physically where you travel. Put yourself in someone else's shoes. Try to see from their point of view. Empathize. Maybe see what you can do to help.
I admit I suck at this most of the time. But if I don't do my best to care about the condition of others' lives, how can I ever expect anyone to help me when I need it?
I give you two days hacking out a living in this village before you recant that amazingly ignorant statement.
These people have the choice to either destroy their village and make a little money short term and destroy the land long term, or live in squalor, starving, for the short term.
You are right. These people do have a choice. Just like the 12 year old prostitutes in Thailand have a choice.
Open your eyes, get outside your own little world for just a little while. See things from another point of view.
Better yet, go to China. There are problems like this all over the place.

thanks for the response, guys. thats all i needed to know.:)
im getting the powerbook at a big discount through a friend who works for apple. he is coming back to school at the end of this month, so i wont be waiting any longer than that.
well, im making the switch sometime this month. im gonna pick up a stacked out powerbook, and am looking forward to finally having an operating system that i really like.
but the specs page for the powerbook says it is shipping with OS 10.1. will i have to pay the full $120 for the upgrade to 10.2?
The Media Lab had previously paid such positions $8.75 and up in order to remain competitive with industry offers that even not-yet-graduated students were receiving.
give me a break. these students who work at the media lab could make quite a bit more than $8.75 an hour in pretty much any field in existance. MIT pays a minimum wage on campus of $8 for undergrads. i suspect that this is the 'industry' that they are trying to remain competitive with.
but, then again, there is little chance that these students are there to cash in on the huge salary. i am currently an undergraduate assistant for a january class at mit (2.670) where students make a working stirling engine, and learn enough solidworks to make a working assembly of the engine. i could easily spend this time during january and work a real job solid modelling and make at least 5 times the amount.
well, to be very vague with actual numbers, using normal quality dvd compression, you can get approximately 2 hours on a dvd-5 (single sided, single density w/5 gb of space), 4 hours on a dvd-9 (single sided, double density w/9gb of space), and around the same on a dvd-10 (single sided double density). a dvd-18 (double sided, double density), however, carries twice that with about 8 hours of total footage. again, these are rough numbers.
but, also keep in mind that dvd-18s are VERY difficult to manufacture, and the process, last i checked about a year ago, resulted in over 50% of the dvds not passing quality control. so, theyre not used very often for a couple of reasons. first, you have to flip them in the middle of the movie if you have more than 4 hours of content, so you might as well use a dvd-9 since its gotta be flipped. second, the cost is prohibitive. two dvd-9s are cheaper to make, and you get the added bonus of getting to put nice happy art on the top of them like those eeevil mpaa audio cds.
because the movie is approaching 4 hours of footage, i see a couple of options for how they will lay them out for the dvd release of fotr.
they could take the ben-hur route, a decent example since the running time is 222 minutes, just shy of 4 hours (thats the running time on the vhs, sorry i dont have the dvd with me). they chose to put it on a dvd-18, and split the movie down the middle with the intermission, and add extras documentaries on both sides. but, then again, there is no intermission during fotr. if theyre going to split it down the middle, i bet it would be on 2 dvd-9s.
they could definitely fit the whole movie onto one dvd-9, but that might start to cut into the audio or video quality. since i imagine that these are important aspects to the dvd presentation, i doubt they will be compromised.
so, my best bet is that it will be on 2 dvd-9s.
as a side note, dvd-5s and dvd-9s are easy to tell apart. the data side on the dvd-5 looks a lot like an audio cd, and the dvd-9 is sorta brownish.
Furthermore, most moral discussions are ignorant because the people involved are wailing and gnashing their teeth, usually to the exclusion of critically examining their own views, seeking out and examining evidence, and so on.
i agree. people as individuals are ignorant about most issues. i recently had to examine what i believe about stem cell research, since i didnt even really know what it was.
from my understanding, stem cells are embryonic cells that have not yet differentiated into cell types.
since i believe abortion is wrong, and that life begins at conception, i was forced to see stem cell research as wrong. but that was not the only implication; i had never completely thought out what life beginning at conception meant.
upon talking to a high school bio teacher (this is where i got most of my rudimentary understanding of this subject. IANAD (i am not a doctor) ), i discovered that most birth control pills control pregnancy by not allowing the fertilized (egg + sperm) to attach to the placenta (sorry, IANAW (i am not a woman), and think this is the correct female body part...) to receive nourishment. so the fetus, by my definition, is killed. thus, i believe this to be wrong too.
there are other methods for controlling pregnancy (from what i understand, im not married either), like time of month, and there are also types of less effective birth control pills that prevent the egg and sperm from coming together at all.
this also brought up the issue of invitro (sp) fertilization. this (from my understanding) process entails creating in the lab several viable embryos to be emplanted. not all are used in the end process. since i believe these embryos to be living creatures, i also object to invitro fertilization.
i am sure there are other implications ive not seen, but i am open to them once i understand more about the issue.
poor color depth. its got a lot of pocketpc-esque features, like the mp3 player, but the color depth is only 256 colors. granted the resolutions kicks serious butt and is what is needed, but where is the beautiful 16-bit of my visor prism?

... i will never complain about star wars episode I or II. i thought it was that bad.
you could always move to new mexico. ive driven through there a few times, and believe me, there is nothing.
well, its not just porn that illegal. its kiddie porn.
does that not disturb other people too?
dean? is that you?
yes, because i can always use more government regulation. i need the government to regulate my bowel movements. that way, i can be sure the quality is better.

well, its all in the pronunciation.
if its said 'jag-you-ahh' in a posh british accent, then its definitely the car.
if it is said 'jag-wahhre' in a lazy american accent, then its the jungle cat.
im waiting for my copy, but im guessing its a jungle cat. big, sleek, and hairy.
thanks for the response, guys. thats all i needed to know. :)
im getting the powerbook at a big discount through a friend who works for apple. he is coming back to school at the end of this month, so i wont be waiting any longer than that.

when does it come out for OSX?
actually, if i understand correctly, apple uses pro/E for all of their design work.

right, because its not possible for a president to have morals or make decisions based on beliefs. all decisions are political.
