It's my professional recommendation (based on nearly three decades of experience running mail systems) that qmail be avoided in favor of superior packages such as sendmail, postfix, and exim. Sure, you may not like Qmail. But your arguments lose strength when you suggest that sendmail is superior. I'm laughing right now.
Yup, I totally agree, I love mine. Though I prefer the older style without the scroll wheel, I just can't get used to my middle button also being a wheel. I'd dig it if they added a wheel somewhere else, perhaps near the thumb.
Interesting. I guess everyone's different... I've been using my Logitech Trackman Marbles (3 of them) since mid 1998 with no thumb pain at all. It took me about a week to get really used to it, and ALL of my wrist pain has been gone since.
Though if I play a FPS game at someone else's computer, I can feel it starting up again in about 30 minutes. Luckily I do that maybe twice a year.
Exactly what I did. I love the Trackman Marble. My only complaint is that the stupid wheel replaces the middle mouse button on the new ones. I've got three of the ancient wheel-less version.
Funny. I switched from mice to the thumb-trackball back in 2001, and haven't looked back. I found it was the perfect thing to relieve the pain in my wrist, which was really all because I was planting the heel of my hand and pivoting on it, very bad.
Though I'm a unix user and don't really use the mouse for much besides pointing at xterms. I suspect, as you alluded to, that a heavy mouse user would have more trouble with this than I have.
I really dislike the larger trackballs you use with your fingers. But really, it's all just personal preference anyways.
I'm with you there, got the same latpop, except I get some 12 hours like that. But, that's with 2.6, laptop-mode, CPU slowed down, HD spun down, I put a lot of effort into making it last. Worth it for sure.
And yeah, I sure dont care about 15" laptops I can play quake III on, I wouldn't carry that anywhere. Stupid.
my fujitsu lifebook p2120 gets some 12 hours on the batteries (I have the second battery), with the screen at full brightness, and the speed cranked down to about 30%. Goes for a "very long time" with the screen off and the cpu cranked down as slow as possible. Great little laptop.
You can do a lot of tricks with linux to conserve battery life, mount with noatime, turn off swap, don't log to disk, play with hard drive spindown, and use the laptop mode kernel patch.
I've been quite happy with the two people I've worked with from Tek Systems. I dealt with various members of their CT staff for about a year before I ever took a job with them, and once I did, I was very happy.
They didn't always find exactly what I was looking for, but they did keep offering me available positions to see if I was interested. And once I did start with them, they visited me IN PERSON, every week, wether it was to hand-deliver my paycheck, bring coffee for the group I worked with, or take me to lunch (which they did at least once a month). I thought this was an excellent addition to already good service.
The two people I spoke to there are the first I call when I need a new job.

Yes, but there are a number of limited shell programs out there, so when you do give your employees shell access so they can scp, you can have them limited to *only* being able to scp.
Nice setup. I love my Paradigm Studio 20's & 40's.
Yeah, I was going to recommend William Sleator as well, I grew up on his stories. Especially "The Interstellar Pig" :)
Dunno about you, but I find cellphone cameras to be pretty much useless.
I assume you use "set -o vi" in bash. If not, you're not a real vi user.
(Also, it's good for confusing people who think your shell should work like their shell.)

That right there is the number one cause of mouse-related wrist pain.

For me, job satisfaction by far outweighs the money. If I don't like what I'm doing, why would I want to go to work?

Back in 1996, I painted my keyboard completely black. It did help me learn to type better - though I was already damn good.
I just don't see why this thing is so expensive.
A trick:
/-i
touch
Now try that rm -rf /
Heh, I used an AnyKey also.
Though these days, I can't use those anymore.. I don't like where the backslash is, and I tend to use windows/menu keys for super and hyper.
I've got an MS Natural keyboard now, which is okay, but not quite right. I need a custom keyboard or soemthing.
What the hell, this has been on slashdot before, twice I think. And who cares? Paint your damn keyboard! I did that back in 1995. Old news, man.
Keyboards all suck, I'm still waiting for something that doesn't cause RMI.
Either "php" or "ODBC", take your pick.
Probably DAK, knowing the kind of stuff they used to sell.
Hmm they've been gone for a while, and I just noticed now. Weird.
#4, the integrated mouse.. some old HP laptop had one. Neat, but totally useless if you weren't at a desk.
No.
Proximity cards don't broadcast anything "constantly". They don't even power on until within range of the reader, which acts as a power source.
Otherwise, you're right, they're pretty easy to read with some simple hardware.
Exactly. My laptop fits in the glove box of both of my cars, so that's where it goes.
