i think that about sums it up. the people who play everquest do so to escape what they perceive as a boring and repetitive life, so of course a simulation of the same will be found equally boring. for those of us who enjoy real life and all that goes with it, the idea of paying for a simulation of something we already enjoy seems incredibly redundant.
so essentially, there is really no market for TSO. those who like their MMORPGs want fantasy, and those who like real life... already have it.
why can't we all just get along (and use SVCD)? it is a much superior format to divx, it is standard, and i ave never popped in a freshly made SVCD in to a DVD player and have it not work. why are people so hung up w/ divx/xvid?
and as for the size issue, in this day and age of super mega broadband connections, ~3hrs or less and you are done. what's the big hurry?
I bought a 20x2 VFD from a place called BG Micro last spring for 20$. Their website, bgmicro.com, appears to be down right now, but that price created quite a buzz over at the hardforums, prompting many people to go for it.
And as for the question of why have it, it is just the 'coolness' factor. I just have mine display what is playing in winamp at the moment, or the time if winamp isn't playing anything.

no way, Back to the Future's delorean totally owns mad max's ride.
Sony's latest offerings, the NetMD line, xfer tunes via USB now, w/ 4x for LP, 32x for LP4 and something in between for LP2....still not as swift as your typical mp3 player, but that, coupled w/ the nice small size and the cheap media, and i think md beats any portable mp3 player.
actually you wouldn't be using the same amount of gas if you had more passengers, because the added weight would require more energy to move that weight to the particular destination.
by the coffee makers. think about it: if we start/continue to drink 3 cups of coffee a day, they can say it is because we drank all that coffee but if we don't, we will forget they ever propogated such lies. its a win-win situation. down with big caffeine! unless they have gotten to you all already.....
w/o a soundcard OR any audio outputs.... now that would be a hack.

it is closer to 50, and DVD burners are getting cheaper, just burn all 2 or 3 parts on one of those.

you realize your sig is a double negative, and thus, not nearly as funny as you intended.

hell hath no fury like a thousand angry anime fans.
the Dreamcast used a proprietary format...look where it is now.
and what is stopping someone from grabbing a panasonic q and backing up all their games on full sized DVD-R's?
i know how much a lot of you people like their anime, but a /.'ing in less than 6mins? thats determination.
i don't get it.
I use phoenix w/ cibc to great success.
stop me if you have heard this one.

two atoms are flying around in a cyclotron and one says to the other, "i think i lost an electron", to which the other replied, "are you sure?".
the first atom responded "yes, i'm positve."
AHAHAHAHA GEEK HUMOUR IS FUNNY
omg ot:
and the site is also archived on the dvd, for those of us who really loved that movie and spent the cash on it.
plus there is a certain air of elegance by running the xbox on a c64 monitor....
pack that, go buy requiem for a dream. she looks incredible in that movie [SPOILER not in the endSPOILER].
plus you see her naked.
BURN!
that is why people preceed search terms w/ +.
hence, +linux nintendo would do quite well.

yes, but a 5$ casette is cheaper than this 189$ device.
and just think, people could have 10s of these tapes in their car! thing of the possibilities! (oh yea, people have been doing this for years)
um, every n64 has been ripped and is available in rom form. and the emulators are out there too.

at the risk of sounding like a troll, i agree: why is this important? i really want to know. civII came out in 1997 or so, right?
and its not like there isn't plenty of nice looking games/ports for linux already.
and civII is like, what? 5$ to buy? find some old dos disks and play the original.
seems like an awful waste of man hours, but again, maybe i am wrong. why is this important?
