    Considering this is the first version of an e-ink reader, you're right in that this particular model probably won't sell enough to recoup Sony's investment. Remember that the first DVD player from Sony was about $1000. I'd expect to see these things selling at less than $100 within a couple years.

    Well, I just bought a laptop w/ XP that had the .Net Framework 1.1 included. The framework ships with a C#, a VB.Net, and a JavaScript.Net compiler, so you don't need an IDE to compile.

    I think the 2GB modules in the nano consist of multiple flash chips, like on a RAM stick; meaning that a similar module with these new chips would be several times larger. But I'm just guessing...

    And yet, it's a great program. I've been using it for about 3 years and I love it. I don't mind paying for it, seeing as how I'm on IRC, AIM, yahoo and MSN all day long at work and home. There's stil l a number of things about it that bug me (no pun intended), but it's the best solution I've found so far. And no, I'm not a shill for trillian.

    There's no "drag" in the sense that the tether lags behind the earth's rotation; it doesn't. I imagine that wind and static electricity might be a factor in the lower atmosphere, at the very least for the elevator itself. You can't just fly around a thunderstorm or a hurricane when you're anchored to the earth...

    First of all, war on Iraq != war on terror. We had much work left to do in Afghanistan and instead chose to pursue the Bush-Cheney-Wolfowitz vendetta against Saddam, which had little if any connection to Al Qaeda. Your fourth point may be accurate now, but was certainly not the case before we invaded. Not sure how you include the Jordanian plot in your Al Qaeda/Iraq analysis, perhaps you can enlighten me. And don't tell me that there were other reasons than WMD for invading Iraq; Congress and the American people never would have supported it otherwise, which is why the Bush administration was so keen on making it seem that there were, in fact, WMD.
