Gateway is closing all its retail stores. What a coincidence. Apple is poised to open its 77th retail store. And they're profitable! Who's beleaguered now, beeyatch?
Either way, Apple reported a loss in 2001 of $25 Million and had losses in the 4th Q of 2002 and the 1st Q of 2003. Even their recent profit of $63 Million in Q1 04 is a joke for a company that had $2 Billion in revenue that quarter.
So only four losses out of about 24 quarters since 1998? Wow, they're doing awesome!
What is it about Apple that they can generate such huge pre-orders of a gadget that costs $250 and *still* not make a profit?
I know you're a troll but... how many times since 1998 has Apple NOT reported a profit? They're one of the only tech companies that actually make money in this ruined economy.
check xlr8yourmac.com for hacks to get your writer working. If you have a +R/-R hybrid it may be a DVR-107 and those guys figured out ways to get it running on the Mac... probably a firmware update
They will be marketed only for Windows PCs, but the external one should work on Macintosh computers with the proper third-party software.
Well, if history proves anything, any -R compatible drive will work internally (or externally via FireWire) in a Mac with no drivers. "SuperDrives" are basically standard Matsushita or Pioneer hardware.
Tunes and the iPod will likely never support anything but AAC, since apple wants to lock you to their music store, software and hardware. Any CD Ripper will encode to ogg these days, and the Rio karma (which plays ogg and flac natively) beats the iPod in every single category except advertising budget.
Wong. The iPod supports AAC (protected and unprotected), AIFF, and MP3.
Developers first need to see how successful ideas are implemented. Note Apple's iDVD page and the features that are provided. Note the attention to motion themes (demo requires QuickTime), chapter marking for scene selection, and slideshows. I'm sure linux developers know how to code this stuff. They just need a handle on what people WANT from an app, and implement it in a logical format.
So when you stop paying, your music is no longer yours? How lame is that.. at least Apple doens't force you to buy in order keep your music. The Napster model forces you to keep paying in order to enjoy what you have. In addition, you have to pay Napster in order to listen to internet radio. With Apple iTunes, internet radio stations are free, plus you can stream your music (bought, ripped, or downloaded from whereever) with anyone on your LAN) for FREE, plus you can listen to everyone's shared playlists.
Subscription services for music shall eventually fail, unless the lemmings keep coming.
I know the parent was a troll, but just to list some of the games available for Mac.. there are a few thousand and a growing many are simultaneously released for both PC and Mac, including Halo: Combat Evolved, SimCity 4, The Sims (and sequels), Command & Conquer: Generals, Age of Empires II, Northland, Activision Anthology, Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc, ToySight, Championship Manager 03/04, Wakeboarding Unleashed, Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness.

Silly. Try to read between the pedantics.. the Mac and PC versions of each were released simultaneously on the same disc at the same time. I didn't say all of those games came out the same day wtf are you thinking?
You fail to realize that this Mac demo was out the same day as the Windows demo. Just like how Starcraft, Diablo, Warcraft, Warcraft2, Warcraft3 was released for Mac and PC on the same day (and disc). The only news here is that the Linux demo is now out.
If you have it, use wget -c [url]..if not use curl with the continue option. I just got the Mac demo and it runs pretty good on a 1.4 GHz G4, 1 GB RAM, Radeon 8500.
My bad. I think I meant the EJ Turntable, from EJ Enterprises Worldwide. "...a retrofit that turns a turntable into a MIDI output device. The EJ Turntable retrofit works with other MIDI hardware and software, and with EJ ScratchTV software -- which lets you can scratch and mix with any QuickTime digital media -- including music videos."
I deleted my Extensions.kextcache and rebooted with the 64 MB Geforce2 MX400. Wow, it got to the login screen.. great! Or so I thought. Once I was on the Desktop I moved windows and all i saw were fragmented outlines. ARGH! I even left the room and the monitor went to sleep.. when I woke it I got a kernel panic. The only way to get "proper" behavior is to boot into safe mode (Shift Key at boot-time). Now I the windows act okay but I may not be getting full Quartz Extreme performance. WTF?
Nope. With more than 256 MB RAM, 10.3.2 will still black out on boot if you have a flashed PC Geforce2 card. Mine is a 64 MB PNY Verto Geforce2 MX400. Guess I'll have to stick with my old 16 MB ATI Rage 128 Pro until I can afford a Radeon 9000 or a Geforce4 MX
Take these power laptops from all the makers and run them on batteries.. see how fast they can complete their tasks and if how fast they run out of juice. Imagine a Photoshop contest with the Athlon laptop, some other 64-bit laptops, and the fastest 32-bit G4 Powerbook.. UNPLUGGED. Turn off all power-saving features and see which ones actually get work done without dying.
That's the true test of a mobile desktop replacement.
You don't ALWAYS have DRM in iTunes.. only when you buy music from the iTunes Music Store. You can rip your CDs to AIFF, MP3, or AAC without any form of DRM, or you can import your existing sound files into iTunes without reencoding. Just because iTunes contains a store component doesn't mean that DRM'd files are the only way to get stuff into the player itself
It's not a Mac problem. You need a drive controller that supports large drives. I've owned this Mac since 2000 and I got a SIIG ATA-133 dual channel controller. OSX and the card support >137GB drives.
You can add more stations by just clicking on any that you like at shoutcast.com or live365.com.. in fact, you can add a station from any website that has a streaming rtsp URL.
Let me be the first to say "N O O O O O O O O !!!"
Suggestions from a Mac afficionado

Weird. Try "Update Permissions" in Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
What? You're an afficionado and you didn't suggest:
sudo diskutil repairPermissions
Shame on you!

Not as hilarious as the iPod port of DOOM (!!)

*sigh* do we have to go over this again and again? The iPod supports:
AAC (16 to 320 Kbps) with or without Fairplay DRM, MP3 (32 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible, AIFF and WAV
How many portable players support RealNetworks formats?

This sort of stuff was out years ago and even made a big splash at last year's Macworld Expo San Fransisco (Jan 2003)
