The accepted rule of thumb (when no other agreement is in place) is that your notice period matches your pay period.
You can't actually force anyone to work. By not working a company could claim a loss of revenue. However even in cases where this could be measured easily (like sales) the company rarely wins out.
C'mmon , Sun only has like $4 Billion in the bank and loans the COO 3.5 Million and got 2 Billion from Microsoft. What do you think they are, made of money?
Except HPs printers are still notorious for jamming with their non-gravity feed mechanism. The last HP printer I had the great feature of printing a couple of characters on the paper when it thought it sensed a communication problem on boot up. Even with gold plated HP printer leads (parallel) Used to waste paper like tomorrow that way and there was no fix.
I've never had any problems like that with Epson or Cannon
"Why? Well, for one, they won't have to keep as many programmers on staff to keep the software going--they have the Community helping there."
This is also a way to de-invest too. Look at the flagship opensource product from Sun, openoffice. It has 100 people with sun email addresses and 4 or 5 who don't
For Solaris x86 to even have a chance it needs access to the GPL drivers out there. However adding GPL drivers means the product is GPL so they probably don't have any choice but to GPL it for Solaris x86 to catch up
3) Like there is no competition in the x86 OS space! How will Sun beat HP and IBM and Dell with Solaris x86 when IBM and HP and Dell can resell linux and windows without spending a dime on R&D
"I was told that my friend HAD TO PAY THE BBB to make a complaint. Pay to complain? That was adding insult to injury."
This is totally false information, you can even log a complaint via the BBB online. (for free)
I lodged a complaint via the BBB and it didn't cost me a penny. They first contacted the company to log the complaint. Then the BBB said they were logging it with the Attorney General (again for free) and after that I got my refund
I happened to pass an ebay event at a hotel. most of the people there were in that age group and female.
considering ebay has about 100 million registered users and nearly 1 billion listings ebay is one of the killer apps for the internet and is drawing new users every day
There is a difference here. Why do we need volunteers? In many cases it is because no one would pay for that needed service, either through taxes or other means, it is not seen as essential. Sometimes it is exploited, CEO's of some charities receive huge amounts of cash, its a business.
This is different that someone like IBM taking free software, re-selling it to a) reduce their own costs, layoffs and outsourcing and b) make more profit for the management team and shareholders.
The more profit they make one year the more they need to make the next, therefore they need even more volunteers and need folks to buy into this model to keep *their* profits higher
my chevy has always leaked oil and has been repaired more times than I can remember, infact if it wasn't for the infamous 3000 mile oil change then many american car owners would find out how much they were leaking.
Japanese cars don't need an oil change for 10000 miles when sold outside the US, and even some of the oil companies themselves recommend 10000+ changes. It was the US auto industry that came up with the 3000 mile change
Most of the money spent on Nasa gets back into the economy somehow, most of it goes to pay for human engineering time, staff costs. Think about it for a minute...
It took me just under 30mins to upgrade my directivo to add ethernet, record to dvd etc, works perfectly since. How much time have you spent rebuilding your myth tv box? How much did your mpeg card cost?
hmm I have tivoweb on my directivo, the perfect hack for editing season passes etc, try it.
My Hughes directivo does run at about 50+ deg so good ventilation is needed. I've never experienced the issues you report and I've had this unit about 2 years and a standalone before that.

Should they re-write their code? Yes or No?

Reading the financial report. GE is the biggest customer or reseller/financer. The revenue from GE has been declining each year
Its getting like CNN, disregard all the other news , ie reject posts from the rest of us and repost the same old thing time and time again.
See this article for some inside info on the naming.

Being told by my boss to make a tape copy of the only master of an old OS version they had on my first week.
OK you guessed it I wiped the master with the wrong cpio option.

Hey they are not even doing that, they are shipping BEA and IBMs Java.

or you might find companies that don't *want* to maximize profits. eg healthcare like Kaise
I've also heard it will help make cases not stick...

The BBB isn't perfect but they do help

Because they are a convicted monopoly, and can abuse their monopoly position which is against the law

Dear IBM
Can you opensource DB2, we don't have a database at Sun so this would really help
I seem to remember on big brother they had to stop the victims from singing or humming songs on air for just that same reason

Damn it, I knew trying to close that ozone hole was a mistake
