Not only that, but even the HUD looks strangely similar. Now it also looks a little like the Jedi Knight HUD, but still. Take a look of various photos (and nifty other stuff) at: http://oni.bungie.org/onishots/
I went to the home depot, which was unneccesary. I need to go to the apartment depot, which is just a big warehouse with people standing around saying "hey, i don't have to fix shit". -- Mitch Hedberg
Some toys are kept in the closet in the bedroom, some are kept in the computer room, depending on application
Well I guess its good to know people are taking care not to mistake their bedroom toys for computer room toys. I'm guessing a dildo fired by a nerf gun could do some damage.
Actually there is shareware that will provide multiple desktops for you. I don't know how well it works with expose, since I have found expose to be just what I need (and I still need to retrain myself to start using that).
Actually its the visual aspect and feel of the movie that they borrowed, not the plot per se.
The whole "shooting at the thermo camo felon and hitting the watermelon" scene is almost identical to morpheous getting shot in the leg in the first movie as he is trying to escape the building.
It is commonly used in gender studies courses from what I've seen. Its really one of the few documentaries that I have seen that deals with male gender perceptions in media.
Actually, most studies show that while men do not have as low self esteem as women (especially during the first stages of puberty) men do suffer from poor self image and are felt forced to act masculine or macho, etc. at the expense of being called gay, queer, fag, or worse, a woman. The fact that most male avatars tend to be exagerated also could be linked to the designers trying to compensate for their own insecurities, or the users trying to compensate also, or both. There is a great documentary about male / masculine image in the media called "Tought Guise" which I suggest everyone takes a look at.
Disturbingly, it is also available with unpurchased tracks...
I just imported a friends mp3 collection into iTunes for windows last night, and it already had cover art for like %50 of the songs, and I have no idea where it got them from. Maybe it downloads them if the meta information is the same as a song on the music store.
The sharing protocol is called DAAP, they have a source forge project up to make a daemon that can share out the libraries for it.
That is what I really want, to be able to have a linux box sharing all my music, that my mac can retrieve, browse, and manage just like in itunes as if it was locally hosted.

Spent my 21st birthday there, got loaded, got free stuff. Best birthday ever.
The big issue I have with the ports on laptops is that in most cases, the point of connection (ie the only thing that is supporting it / holding it in place) is the solder to the mother board. This is especially true of power connectors. Hit the plug hard enough, and the port's solder is broken and you are screwed. Why they can't run a length of wire for that added flexibility, and attach the housing of the power port to something more rugged, is probably because it would add $5 to the manufacturing cost and a bunch of retooling. But it would still be nice to not have the "jiggle the plug and hold it until it charges" problem.
well, beside the brittleness of the lcd screen, iBooks are actually very durable. Most powerbooks are actually, i've seen some fall down an entire flight of stairs, while on, without taking much damage (just a scratch on a case). I've seen the old clamshell ibooks be thrown around in the back of school bus while traveling in mexico. The iceBooks are a little less rugged, cause of their size, but are still damn hefty compared to the cheap plastic feel of most PC laptops. Granted, its not a replacement for a toughbook, but for portable machines, they are ranked pretty high up there in toughness.
Yes, but a virus that hoses your/home directory probably doesn't have the privileges to spread as well as a virus that hoses your entire system. Actually a virus that does either would be recognizable right away, and would kill its host quickly, making it difficult for it to spread. A good virus would have to run as a hidden service, and continue to propagate itself unbeknowst to the user, such as klez did, which modified executables and ran ontop of them whenever they were run, continuing to reinfect files. A virus that could have similar powers on a Linux machine would have to run as root to modify global applications, but could also affect your/home directory scripts and applications also. I envision that linux viruses will become a combination of rootkits, worms and viruses, like klez. Of course the virus would have to contain multiple root kits because of the variations in linux distributions (or one could create a self probing / modifying rootkit system, could be done if the source was available on the machine to recompile versions of ps, rm, ls, etc.). And most likely, because of the level of interaction with the user, most linux "virii" i would probably assume would be more worm like and trojan like in nature (auto infecting, without user intervention). Of course, when linux or OS X becomes common, it will be a mono culture of its own, since I don't see corporations deploying various versions / distros of the OSes unless they want a tech support nightmare.
So will viruses and virus like software begin to be developed for these systems as they become more popular... Yes. Will they be as widespread, possibly, depending on the exploit. Will it be more difficult to write "successful" viruses, most definatly.
Repair permissions uses the information stored on the boot drive to determine what the right permissions should be, therefore if you repair the permissions from your none standard boot partition, all your permissions will be borked when you boot back on that partition.
My friend just got a hold of the Flaming Lips "Zaireeka" album, which features 4 cds to be played simultaneously. It has a warning about causing disorientation and nausea. It is supposed to be extremely immersive.
It was one of bungies first games actually. You can pick it up on the Mac Action Sack, which also has all the Marathon games on it also. You can read up on PID here: http://www.bungie.com/products/pid/pathways.htm
Just because he is anti bush does not mean he is pro clinton either. There are those crazy third party members, anarchists and other such dissidents who opposed both clinton and bush. But some may prefer clinton over bush, lesser of two evils and what not. I doubt Gore would have appointed the Governer of Utah (one of the most polluted states in the Union, next to Texas i believe) to be the head of the EPA.
Just because he enjoyed it does not mean he has to agree with the philosophy of the film. Nor does his enjoyment of the film have anything to do with his ability to understand philosophy. I agree that the film does not put out ideas such as Waking Life (which is one of my favorite films) but I still enjoyed it. It was good entertainment, and it had some nice morsels of information to chew on for a bit (the whole "you are the 6th One to happen" meaning that the matrix has been running for a lot longer than anyone thinks).
But then again, I tend to love the movies everyone hates, re-animator, buckaroo banzai, etc.

Always seems to release the soundtracks to their games. I have Myth, Myth2 and the Halo soundtrack over in my cd stack somewhere.

It is being ported as we speak, and should be done "any time now." The work is being done by westlake interactive, and will be sold by MacSoft.

its all about using Lure and some unholy strengths to decimate an opponents defenses, early in the game.

Warthog Jump was pretty much the first Halo Vid.
It started the entire genre, and that is why I believe it got the best movie award.
The Bungie programmers were amazed at what was pulled off in that video, they could not imagine that their game engine could do that.

Has some of the best COOP play for the XBox. It is supposed to only be getting better in halo 2.
