I believe it is better when people 'keep it real' and not put up false facades as that is a level of deceit not worthy of judges. The people should be able to discern that he is doing an impartial job and also has his own opinions which is easier to see when the judge is more open with his opinions at certain times. A review of the procedings and final judgement (instant-replay like) can be used to guarantee that the man is doing his job.
Should people also be interested in tracking and arresting people who use police scanners to listen to others' 900mhz conversations they broadcast? While wrong, people should buy phones with encryption to prevent this.
In the same way, just secure your wireless network or wait until better technology arrives. Until then, if a site provides an unsecured WIFI connection, it will be considered as free for public use, just as broadcast radio is.
it's more like watering your lawn with a sprinkler system -- are you going to consider your neighbors as stealing water as they walk on the sidewalk through the water-spray to cool off on a hot summer?
Except in a car, you don't have stiff pads smashing your ears when heavy vibration occurs -- this is what damages people - the heavy vibration and "safety equipment"
If they ever continue, it may be more fun to watch if CC provided the same mechanical parts to each team; this could occasionally prevent simple armored RC cars (boring) from being used; WIFI and more complex semi-autonomous things would be more fun to watch too;
When I bought this printer (new) over 5 years ago, I didn't know it came with a toner cartridge so I bought an extra one -- I still have the extra one in the box as the first toner cartridge is still working great. Buy a laser printer!
It's also the reduced complexity in licensing. If a big corp buys a site license, they don't want extra copies under other licenses running around loose...
I'm not seeing why you'd be happy to pay extra for that feature. Getting nothing shouldn't cost the same as getting something.
Part of the AI could be for a robot to realize when its parts are scattered or squashed which could be an indication that it did something bad. To late for itself, but it could inform/train others about the objects that it learns are important to humans.
It only will seem slow if you put new software on the old machines -- just keep the old software, development tools, and a hardware junkbox from the era of your machine and it should be good for a long time; (just like my 386 or Atari 1600XL)
WiFi is also the first good chance there is to get "everything" online at home or the office. They just don't see that right now; all they'd really have to do is charge by GB transferred to make things fair;
I still keep my 386 for one purpose -- to use Lotus Write (small version of Ami Pro) -- still great stuff!

I had a similar issue at UW0 - then 1 IP per person per room -- they even didn't like serial terminals
I have a '92 Olds Achieva which has the 'Check Engine light' flicker on/off/etc due to a warped computer board (common problem)
I've been getting by without it though;
(yes, I had the common cracked head gasket issue)

if they choose to share by not securing their network at all, then it's not stealing

It worked for Gateway2000 --> Gateway

The reality is that they will all rush out to the store the minute that old TV stops working.
Unless the personal economic condition of people stays the same or gets worse.
Maybe ZDnet could save themselves and others if they would cover more controversial and important issues like this.
I bet they just saw how successful LWN was with getting donations and ZD just wanted a part of that.

>>I should know. I live here. I have since birth.
and to of all people, Europeans!!!
Interesting; I haven't bought any CDs since that time when Napster was around; I miss browsing through others' collections and discovering new music;
I agree; this story probably should have been rejected by the slashdot editors;
I also didn't see a paragraph that said this notice should be made public to give the hackers a 'heads-up';
Looks like someone successfully socially engineered some free ad space on Slashdot;
