Although it's easy to make the gonad jokes, the concept of monads have a long history in metaphysics dating back to the greeks. Monads were central to the philosophy of Liebniz, the co-discoverer of calculus.

It doesn't really matter what comprises a gallon of gasoline. It's not plants anymore is it? It's oil, and there is still a lot of it left.
I agree that it's time to move on and we should be focusing more resources to that end; but this article is informative but pointless.

Odd, I had the opposite reaction to the game. I thought it felt so realistic that it made rethink the seriousness of a commitment to the armed forces. This was after I spent a tour in the Marine Corps.
All the maps on America's Army are 'one life to live' and the damage is based on where you get hit. So a head shot takes you out the first time. Sure, get hit in the legs and you can still play, but you move slower. I felt it was very realistic, not cartoon like at all.

Maybe you saw this article in wired a few weeks ago about banning cell phones with cameras in places like gyms and theatres. I hadn't thought about it before, but these cell/cam combinations are a little scary. I am now much more aware of people talking on phones in certain places (public restrooms, gym locker room, etc).

It absolutely should be and is illegal to install keylogging software on systems that do not belong to you. 14. Re:Violence in video games on America's Army on Linux · · Score: 3, Interesting

I've played America's Army quite a bit, and I'd have to say that this particular game is realistic enough that it made me think MORE about the real consequences of armed combat. That is no small thing because I spent six years in the Marine Corps.
About 1/2 the maps are ones where the teams fight with MILES simulation gear, and all the maps are 'one life to live' so when you peek around the corner and get killed, you have a few minutes to think about what would have happened in real life. This game is almost a simulation, and it is very well done.

This not DRM at all, what they want is a system whereby they can say that a digital photograph has not been altered. So yes, this is very important. Imagine you're on trial for a crime you did not commit yet the prosecuting team has altered a similar fingerprint (but not similar enough for conclusive evidence) to make it more like yours.

DRM is an important fight, but keep the boundaries clear or you'll muddle your argument. These are separate technologies.

It boosts the economy by allowing businesses there the opportunity to compete with businesses in the rest of the nation. For example, Dell just opened a customer service/call center in Twin Falls. Lots of new jobs in a sector that didn't exist in that area just few years ago.

Also, having lived there myself once upon a time, I suspect broadband will be a huge hit for people who live in an area where there isn't a whole lot to do. :)

Slashdot is beginning to look more and more like a tabloid fishwrap where every headline is an egregious exaggeration of the article it purports to summarize. The comments on this topic will clearly show how many people bothered to read the article.

Slashdot's 'editors' are doing the slashdot community a disservice by allowing these type of submissions through without doing any fact checking.
