There's a very good reason Microsoft hasn't ported Office to Linux:
Linux users expect everything for free.
To be fair (ya, I know) to users of other platforms, Microsoft would have to charge the same amount for Linux Office as for Mac Office and Windows Office. Linux people think paying that much for software is a joke, and will refuse to buy it.
Plus, if you think Microsoft software is buggy under Windows, imagine how buggy it would be under a non-standardized OS that has 100s of flavours.
I haven't actually read it, but Saiyuki, also known as "Journey to the West", might be the closest thing.
To explain this to the Slashdot crowd, the first story arc of Dragon Ball (not Dragon Ball "Z") is a sort of a modern-day parody of it. The story, written centuries ago, is about as important as Shakespeare's works to countries like Japan and China.
Cogeco did the same thing too. Everyone's been given @cogeco.ca addresses, and the whole network has been switched over to their own system.
This was a month ago.
It's all working just fine. It's fast, and pretty reliable. I think my pings have been lowered as well, since we're not plugged into that awful @Home backbone anymore.
3DO's 62-bit M2 technology was never put into a game console, and instead was sold to some Japanese company that integrated it into industrial systems.
As for the 3DO, it sucked: too expensive, not enough developer support. Trip Hawkins' had a good idea, but it wasn't executed very well.
Also, anyone who remember the days of 3DO will see striking similarities between it and the XBox...
Calling DAB a failure at this point isn't quite correct. It hasn't even had a chance to "start". It's like saying Digital TV in the US is a failure.
They didn't expect it to explode immediately, and that's why it's only current stations simulcasting. When it DOES take off, which should be soon due to new decoder chipsets, it should explode.
Digital Broadcasting is already in full-effect in many places. All the major radio stations in Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver are already broadcasting in digital on the new "L" band using the Eureka DAB standard. Not many people have digital receivers yet, but that's not the point: the signal is there, and we can get it.
Many european countries have already gone this way as well.
Anyways, check out this site, DigitalRadio.ca, for more info.
Geeze... does Slashdot need the equivalent of a Kosher rating to determine what is right to talk about and what is wrong?
Before you criticize this topic, look back at your day:
- Did you do anything that involved Microsoft products? Remotely or Directly?
- Did you listen to music copyrighted by the RIAA?
- Did you watch any movies coprighted by the MPAA?
- Did you use any software that isn't free and open sourced?
...and so on.
Unless you wanna be a total hypocrite, you can go live in the woods and eat berries. That's the only way you're not gonna tread on one of these taboo subjects each and every single day.
Now, is it just me, or is anyone else sick of all this bitching about what we're allowed to and not allowed to support?
I'm gonna be brutally honest here, but if you're gonna get people to use Ogg, you've gotta change the name. From a marketing standpoint, it's abyssmal.
Think about it: you're a teenager, you want to share music with your friends. Which name is going to get you called a nerd and beat up? Which sounds cooler? (In a teen way, not geek way.)
A) "Hey! I got some new tunes! Want some MP3s?"
B) "Hey! I got some new tunes! Want some Ogg Vorbis files?"
Process that, and then wonder why people aren't using the format that is "the choice of nerds everywhere..."

In their opening statement, notice how "Customers" comes a dead last behind "Shareholders" and "Partners" in who they value?
Perhaps if you value your customers more, you wont run into these sort of problems.
But sometimes a name is just a name, and nothing more.
One Toonie = Twenty Timbits
One Toonie = 2 KFC Pieces + Fries (on Tuesday)
Most certainly a versatile coin!
You dumbass. That is SO obviously a fake it's not funny. People have been certain of it since it first appeared over a week ago.
The most blatant clue: look at her legs. Notice how one of them is TRANSPARENT? A bad photoshop error.
Plus, the background is just a doctored photograph, those flowers are very crudely rendered, and the "logo" is a pitiful hack job.
These days it's easy for someone with enough knowledge of a 3D program to create a somewhat realistic character render. This is 2001, not 1998.
A really lame attempt at a hoax.

If the cat meows, would that break the uncertainty principle?
Oh hell... now this is going to give all those greasy Otaku one more thing to fantacize about: real-life catgirls.
(Catgirls, a.k.a. "Nekomimi", are a popular fetish amongst Otaku. If you hadn't noticed, of course.)
So... is anyone offline yet?
If your internet connection is dead, please raise your hand.
(note: this is sarcasm)

Would you actually WATCH the show if she wasn't a total bitch? Seriously, that's the best part of the show: watching her chew out the contestants.
Maybe it's a french name, but it's better known as a spanish name.
Wow, I didn't know they used cheap mexican labour to program software back then...
(No offense to mexicans. If you're offended, you obviously don't get it.)
What's bad?
The fact that User Friendly has never actually made me laugh.

You wouldn't happen to be running one of the pre-release builds, would you?

Sorry 'bout that. Saw the "alta" in your e-mail address, and thought it meant "Alberta". (it's common short form)
You may wanna clarify that you're in Canada.
:)
I like my Fido GSM service
I saw this on TLC at least three years ago...

They made fun of those on King of the Hill.
