we're getting closer to having an uncompressed digital video media. You could fit slightly less than an hour of uncompressed video at 640x480, 30 fps on one of these. yay!
the slashdot summary gives the impression that microsoft did the code-stealing here. this is not the case. the original authors of softimage took the code and microsoft later bought softimage, inheriting this lawsuit.
No joke! My having an American passport has damn-near ruined my life!
Instead you get to be treated like a criminal when you've done nothing wrong.
The last time I used my passport, I was not treated like a criminal.
This only oppressed the law abiding citizens.
You're absolutely right, sub-genius. Any form of identification is completely uncalled for. I say we all ditch our social security cards, driver's licenses, student id's, employee id's, and any other form of picture id. We should all start wearing bags over our heads to preserve our anonymity, as well as dressing in drab grey robes.
why did you post this? there's no reason to do so! people can just as easily follow the link from the story! all you're doing is sucking up the bandwidth of slashdot and it's readers.
they grade you on things that don't necessarily reflect the performance of the university. ethnic diversity of students and faculty, for example. it would be far more interesting to compare how a university with a wide ethnic diversity performs as opposed to one without.
No, OS X does not meet Linuxy needs. The two systems each have their own benefits and pitfalls.
Like what? Is opensource really a benefit? Does that help you get your work done? Is a lack of commercial applications a true pitfall? Can't you deal with.doc files in Abiword or StarWriter? Is a variety of window managers a good thing? How many different border and titlebar styles can you really need?
I have yet to find a window manager for X that both looks good and behaves well. I consider the win32 GUI to be better than all of them.
I've been using various redhats for the last year and I'm hardly in love with it. I've run freebsd for years and never felt the need to install X or do anything more with it than serve web pages. I really don't like any of the linux or BSD distros very much. I don't even like the unix paradigm or any of it's conventions and standards.
You'd have a hard time convincing me that battle.net ads actually generate any revenue. How much time does the average user spend lolling about in a lobby (where the ads are) vs. the time spent in game? Far, far less, I think. If anybody's advertising on the service, they're throwing money out the window.
Most IM software is actually P2P. Messages don't actually pass through a server. I think the problem here isn't using a DB for IM, it's delivering IM over http. That's got to be hell on the server.
you also get $5.00 of free rentals when you sign up. and they don't ask for a credit card or validate your e-mail or anything.are they seriously trying to run a business like this?
this is the most reliable and lag-free video stream i've ever seen! I used to think sputnik7 was smooth, but it still hiccupped at times and took 10-20 seconds to buffer.
Of course, I'm watching Frankenstein: the College Years. A bad movie over a smooth video stream is still a bad movie =).

Why should I compensate them any further by giving them any rights to my creations?
If Apple wanted to do something that mind-bogglingly stupid, they have every right to do so. Nobody would ever use iMovie again.

you're a goddamned loser.
A national ID card is a way to restrict freedom.

Who's with me??

you can see an amusingly edited version here
two reviews of the license and no reviews of the software itself.

And even if the watch is too tough to cut off, children's arms don't put up much resistance against a good saw.

i already use 2kbit rsa for my webmail. so i can read my spam securely. whee.
With PDA prices falling, it might be a fun hack."
It's not much of a hack if someone's done it before you and gave you instructions on how to do it yourself.
It's all about the ad-revenues.

maybe NerveGas is referring to an older version of NT. There were versions of NT before 2000, you know. That's where the "NT" came from.
IT'S ABOUT FUCKING TIME.

gladly!
it's going to the point where we all need industry-approved descrambling implants for our eyes and ears to experience any media whatsoever.
i've seen a linux movie editor that does commercial removal, but i can't remember the name of it. i'm sure you can find it on google.
