On my HP Omnibook xe4500, Mozilla and Phoenix don't scroll with the built-in Synaptics touchpad. I went through every configuration option I could find - both for Mozilla and the touchpad. It drives me nuts that every application (other than Mozilla and Phoenix) scrolls just fine!
There is a solution, however - plug in a mouse;-). Seriously though, I'm going to submit a bug report. Maybe if enough of us do, it'll get fixed!
Not long at all... Follow the on2 link, then under products select "open source pvr solution", there's a recorder/player available there for Windows. Or go there directly here.
On the main On2 page, they have links to the codecs.
5. Leather pants. You can't be subversive without a good, tight pair of leather pants. Plus they look hot on chicks. Although the lock on the chastity belt might make an unsightly bulge...
So, what good is the chastity belt when it comes with a lockpick included?
I work for a Japanese company. My boss returned from a trip to Japan, and the latest digital cameras connected directly to the 3G network. You could upload your images immediately to your computer/FTP space/whatever. Unlimited memory for your digital camera!
I'm curious... did you mean 7.2, or 8.2? If 7.2, where did you get the RPMs? I have an oldish laptop running Mandrake 7.2, I generally don't upgrade anything anymore (unless by source) because I don't see new rpms.
I think the analogies stand - both of them. The market for novels is bigger than the market for software - specialized or unspecialized. Professionalism is important in any career.
I believe it's possible to create a comfortable work environment for programmers and still demand maximum productivity and deadline adherence...
I never said it wasn't possible. Hell, I didn't even argue against it! I disagreed with what I felt was a primadonna attitude. I guess I was trolled... damned Anonymous Coward!
But I do agree with the gist of your message.
I am _for_ a safe, comfortable environment that lets you do your job. Because we are people - not because it gives management a bigger bang for the buck. Any good company will make sure that they provide such an environment.
We should have a healthy workspace, a high quality monitor, ergonomic chair, the ability to listen to the music of our choice (so long as it doesn't disturb others or prevent us from doing our job). We just need to be professional enough to do what needs to be done in a timely manner.
I'd put $1,000 down right now - there are more people writing code for a living than writing novels. Which one is easier?
Let's stretch this a little farther, shall we? Which is harder, being a surgeon or a programmer? I'd put $5,000 down on that one, right now. But somehow, the surgeons end up motivating themselves to go to work and do their job whenever it's required, not just when they "can get into the mindstate".
When working with other people, professionals find a way to just do it.
I'm assuming you read this, but I'll post this for others who may not have read the article:
Q. Why should a donor include the operating system with their PC donation?
A. It is a legal requirement that pre-installed operating systems remain with a machine for the life of the machine. If a company or individual donates a machine to your school, it must be donated with the operating system that was installed on the PC.
This was a failed experiment, but it doesn't prove that the idea is flawed. It doesn't measure the quality of his e-book (did it suck?), whether the download drove sales of real books (did the downloader go to the bookstore for another S King book?), or even whether the same purchaser downloaded it several times because he/she couldn't find it on the hard drive (my wife?).
And don't forget this was two years ago - the net economy has changed and will continue to change.
Transparently not Secretly. I don't think Tivo would want piss off their customers too much - they will let the "random group" know, they just won't have to actively update their box.
Not sure if E911 means no 911. But the Time story referenced above states (to paraphrase) due to arcane technological reasons, you can't use 911 services.
It's Build 44 - the last CD labeled Redmond Linux. Build 46, which hasn't come out yet will be Lycoris.

You left out a small part of the Privacy Policy:
Microsoft will occasionally update this Statement of Privacy to reflect company and customer feedback. Microsoft encourages you to periodically review this Statement to be informed of how Microsoft is protecting your information.
Basically, this policy is in effect until MS decides to change it. When (not if) they decide to change it, any information they have already collected will be subject to the _new_ privacy policy.
We've seen it happen already with Yahoo!, among others.
Exactly. For every "miracle medicine" there are side effects that we didn't consider, if only because the human system is too complex to consider all the variables.
The scary part of drugs like this is how long until the side effects show up (think thalidimide, for example)?
What is really needed is a proactive approach. IBM's basketball spots on tv are a good start. People need to hear the words "linux" and "good" together more often.
I understand, my lumpy friend. Actually, Mandrake and Sun are talking about StarOffice _6.0_, not 5.2. 6.0 is actually based on OpenOffice, but will have enhancements. It's not quite available yet.
The whole thing is kind of like the NetBeans/Forte deal.

Ouch!

Bingo! Any profession worth doing is worth doing well.

If I had mod points, I'd mod you up. I just tore into someone else (upthread). You said it much better than I did ;)
Discipline and professionalism - boring, but _way_ underrated.

they're dumbnails!

Hit enter before hitting Ctrl-C and your Ctrl-X will become part of the file.
Or, try anything (well, almost) then Ctrl-C. You will find that all the lines but the one you hit Ctrl-C on will be in the file.
Example:Ctrl-C kills cat before it can write the last line to the file.

Just so you know, Celine Dion is also revered by older women. Her demographics cross age barriers, just not the gender barrier ;)
I think being named "Ooqa Ooqa" is already punishment enough!
Here is a 'true to life' example of Air Traffic Control on Windows (Real Player).
Free versus a older pay for item.

I can't believe her name is Jennifer 8 !
