if people are insufficiently informed on the matter and you have access to information that balances the view more, perhaps you'd like to share it with the rest of the class?
a lot of people have a less than positive view of the chinese government, for good reason: it's autocratic and at times has zero qualms about flexing its power: witness what happened when zhao ziyang left power. for his remorse over the violence used in tiananmen square, he was placed under house arrest since 1989. this is the former head of state. don't believe me? look here: http://edition.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/asiapcf/01/16/ch ina.zhao/
note, btw, that this will likely have disclaimers where you agree to waive any liability of the site's operators, third-parties, etc. so if the tool is corrupted by exploit [large number] of the month in some way, you're likely SOL if you use it.
you know, as funny as that is, my first thought also was "what about 'dirty' words" and the possible problems they'd hear about from parents, etc. my suspicion is that they'll be able to relax the filters that prevent those words from cropping up in search results.
let's say for the sake of argument it's actually possible. everybody would want immortality: it's been the dream of most of humanity for a long, long time. that all makes sense.
so how would you go about seeing who gets it, and when? there's wars going on b/c of contention over who owned a stretch of land first over the course of more than a few centuries. what kind of chaos and violence would this bring?
but even beyond that: a world in which nobody dies of old age for centuries? if you think that overpopulation's a problem now, we could very easily be headed towards a soylent green kinda world if we don't have natural limits on lifespans.
actually, that's got me thinking about who leaked the memo:
1. ticked off developer who sees this as nothing but HRspeke for "we feel your pain" and expect this to amount to nothing more than a lot of sound and fury, signifying nothing. 2. happy developer who wants people to know that EA is trying to address some serious problems. 3. EA's PR group.
similarly, if ep3 does poorly, all the firefly fans can tell their friends: "gee, you hated ep3? well, there's another sci-fi flick in a few months that will really crank your motor..." and lend 'em the DVDs.
both fark and slashdot have very large readerships. but remember that here at slashdot, stories submitted need to be vetted by editors: at fark, i get the impression that it's just drew reviewing the links.
that is of course an excellent point. i suspect that when most people think of hydrogen and don't immediately think, "ah yes, the first item on the periodic table", they do tend to think hidenburg, as michael evidently did.:>
hey, at least it won't be goatSCO...

does anybody else find the sheer recursiveness of posting this story here really entertaining, or am i all alone on that tree branch?

michael quoth: "looks like the film is not a complete bastardization of adams' work."
this is actually IMHO the best a fan should ever hope for WRT film adaptations of a cherished book/series/whatever.

the article quoth: "rick berman said today he's working on a new trek feature film that will have "a larger scope and budget" than ever.""
actually, it's now a certainty: all most assuredly is lost.

strictly speaking, hollywood didn't make clerks: kevin smith financed it on a credit card.

what if we're more like a single-minded sandal? construction boots?
OK, sorry: couldn't help myself.

i love it when slashdot predicts a slashdotting...

as i've said before once here: i've never been more scared of the voice of sad experience.

o, come now: as a host of ACs are always happy to claim, *BSD is dying, so obviously, that doesn't do anybody any good... [/sarcasm]

considering the impact he had on ep1, i think it's pretty clear that jar jar's a reaver... :>
