Am I the only one (er... besides Taco) that thinks this would be a dumb move? I know whenever I see a similar shade of green and white together, Slashdot is the first thing I think of. I'm guessing this is why web developer and brand manager are two different titles. How can you see this color scheme as many times a day as some of us do and not think of it as an essential part of the site's identity? If it was so damn ugly from a usability standpoint, none of us would be here. #006666 should remain sacrosanct!!
I after using a computer and tablet almost exclusively for a couple of years, I can tell you that I developed a horrible case of "Undo Dependency". I actually came to rely on being able to undo things, and my real drawing skills suffered for it. I didn't see this coming *at all*, and it was pretty alarming when I finally noticed it. It's been a real bitch to kick the habit.
I think whats happening here is that Apple is doing so well, anything they do becomes big news, Which then gets speculated on by the webizens, and completely over-hyped by the press. Apple released an invitation, to a small event. "Some fun new products" isn't exactly earth shattering, is it?
What's funny though, is that this is a dramatically different situation than it was in 1998, when I got my first Mac. I dare say Apple has done so well in the last few years that the long standing/. mac(back)lash is bleeding over into the mainstream. I know lots of kids who don't want an iPod, because they're "too trendy".
I know this was a joke moderation, but I would really like to think there is someone out there with mod points who thinks this is a good idea....it would explain a lot about/. =)
I understand why they didn't, and I know they added a lot of services since then, but as soon as they started charging for it I quit using it. The idea of paying for something I used to get for free just didn't sit well with me. While they added stuff, it didn't seem like the additions were worth $99 more than the free service. I understand this isn't exactly a logical way to evaluate it, but it appeared like they were screwing people. I'm sure I wasn't alone in not even considering to pay for it.
I really think this is a harbinger of how the Revolution is going to do in the next gen console "war". How many people screamed gimmick and added up specs and features when it came to the DS vs PSP? Is it the same people doing it now for the consoles? I'm glad Nintendo is doing interesting stuff, and its nice to see the market reward them for it. I fully expect the Rev to whip up on the competition by selling fun in a neat little box, while the gamerz fanboys drool over blood spatters that are 13% more realistic and crow about shit that I couldn't care less about unless it adds up to that nebulous quality, fun.
You know, kinda like what happened with these handhelds. =)
I think its become painfully clear that very few graphic designers (not to mention graphic design students, who would normally jump on a contest like this) use the GIMP. This would get killed in a freshmen level critique, and rejected by all but the least design conscious clients........and it won the fucking GIMP contest.
I'm not trolling, I love Free Software and have a soft spot for the GIMP especially, but this says a lot about the user base.
I wonder how Apple is going to handle this, considering the airport icon is an orange "cone of sperically propagating waves. For them, adopting ths new standard would probably force them to change that as well. I also prefer the blue and white text rectangle.
Wait, what are we talking about again? WHY does there need to be a standard RSS feed icon anyway? =p
I'm not sure if we're on the same page, but the first thing I thought about after reading your post was John Sculley's (and others, I'm sure) idea of agents that went off on the web and did various things you told them to. I have a ton of little widgets that grab various sets of data off the network, but I often think how nice it would be to have 2 or 3 really smart and flexible ones instead.
I don't live too far from this guy, and it just struck me that maybe the idea is to hit a sweet spot geographically with these lawsuits. How do they decide who and when to sue anyway? I'd be really interested to see a map overlay of the places media cabals have filed suit against people. I have a hunch its pretty well distributed across the US.
Yeesh....nuke the site from orbit, just to be sure

They also hate to wear shirts and/or kiss themselves in the mirror. Dismantling this web atrocity should be the primary focus of the impending 'Generation ~'. Guh.
After all these years, I STILL dont get this. What is it about cartoon characters exactly, that most men of my age bracket dismiss them out of hand? Why weren't Pac Man, Frogger, and Dig Dug blown off as "kiddy games"? I'm sorry, but realistic blood and tits does not a fun game experience make. =/
A friend of mine (who is obviously slightly obsessive) became scary-type addicted to Typing of the Dead (or whatever the DC zombie typing thing was called). This could have been the thing to put him over on DS. =)
...and yes, I also caught the thing about croc skin as well. Again, why? Not only are crocodiles and herbivorous dinos entirely different lineages, but they also occupied entirely different niches. Skin type varies dramatically from one species of reptile to the next. A scale is not always just a scale.
You got modded Funny, but this is actually pretty Insightful (or at least Interesting) =p. I'm going to assume you are talking about a regular domestic cat. I have a Bengal cat, and let me assure you, its serious shit when he does this. I also keep reptiles, which leads me to wonder why pig skin is supposed to be analogous to dino skin.
Especially as the games market gets older and more discerning. I used to buy every console that came out, and spent at least $100 a week on games. A lot of that was crap, but I was immersed in game mags and sites at the time, getting a full blast of big name promotion. Nowadays, I might buy a game once a month, and my collection is entirely devoid of sports games, GTA et al, car games, and whatever the hell else passes for mass market entertainment these days. I only buy interesting games, that (are at least trying to) do something I've never experienced before. I would love to have a wide selection of games like that at my disposal, and I know for a fact I'm not going to get them from EA or Steven fucking Spielberg. I know I'm not the median publishers are looking to hit, but I'd like to think the segment I occupy is growing.

For those unfamiliar, it's the little glass widget thing next to the user ID that makes people "foes".

Queue the "queue the 'why the hell can't people parent their kids anymore'" posts...er....queue.....um.. here.

you can't use a mod score in a subject line? Is that a feature or a bug?

After looking through the rejected submissions, they passed up some really strong designs for this crap. Amazing.

I knew Steve Jobs posted here, but not as an AC! Go figure.

What an iconoclast! I bet everyone who claimed Apple released the first media center PC feels sooo stupid now. =/

Oh well, I would have modded it 'Funny'. =)
