  1. Re:Who, specifically, is this for? on Ars Technica Reviews Controller Keyboard · · Score: 1

Me. It seems perfect for someone like me.

See... I'm legally blind, and need to get really really close to a monitor to see what's going on. That makes me have to lean over a keyboard while typing, or have the keyboard in some other awkward place/position. Having this handheld controller/keyboard would allow me to put a monitor up to my face, while comfortably typing with the controller near my lap.

I'm going to have to try one out.

Why don't the Media corporations (Broadcast, DVD, etc.) offer huge incentives for switching to digital? Or at least have a deal with the hardware manufacterers to offer the digital TVs at a huge discount to the consumer. Maybe a trade-in allowence, rebates, etc.

Do like the game console companies do... take an initial loss, make up for it in content.

Google suggested an amazing1.com page. I clicked. I got an internal Firewall BLockage page. Reason: Weaponry.

I'm probably going to be visited by security soon, and they may take me to Guantanimo Bay... which I hear is nice this time of year. I hope they have broadband.

This is very close to home for me. I'm the systems administrator for one of IRS's Training Centers.

Other posters are correct... Government hasn't embraced technology nearly to the degree that the rest of the world has. My site in particular still has mostly 1Ghz machines, and half of them are still running NT4.

You have to understand that most of IRS' employees are either accountants or lawyers, used to doing everything on paper. Getting these people trained on technology is getting better, but it's classically been like nailing jello to a wall. Only recently has there been any real effort to provide adequite training for everyone who touches a computer.

Also note, Of the ~103,000 IRS employees, I'd say 60 - 75% of them are older, near retirement. We all know how well older people love new technology:)
