I agree with the elitist guy. Someone who is an "actual professional" should know what they are doing enough to avoid this in most cases. Unfortunately, most "actual professionals" I run across do this is a 3rd or 4th troubleshooting step Because They Are Lazy. If you take the time to find out the root cause of the issue, you will more easily solve it next time and also be able to educate the user as to what happened. But most techs don't see the big picture, they just see that they need to get this done so they can move on.
"Actual professionals" who are not necessarily Lazy but just reinstall Windows without doing much troubleshooting are often the kind of peson who believes in magic, that "clutter" exists and can "slow things down", so we'd better "start fresh".
It's all about the standards that America as whole has set, and this is where we are at, folks. John Q. Public more readily approves of violence than nudity.
After looking at all these things and trying some, I think the indexing service is the way to go. However, its downfall is it has no interface to speak of, so you kind of have to come up with your own. And it doesn't know about your email, of course, but I never needed that anyway...

It makes sense, really. Google is in the business of gathering and filtering tons of information, so it makes sense that in interviewing they would apply a similar process to candidates. But yeah, in the real world, where the humans live, 14 is about 11 too many interviews.
I have independently verified this to be accurate on a raod trip I took last summer. Atlanta's drivers are in fact maniacs. Also, they are scarier than Dallas drivers, which is hard to do.
This is why microsoft like to sweep them under the rug as much as possible; people tend to assume that if you fix 75 bugs in ProductA and 50 bugs in ProductB, then ProductA is a "buggier" product (when the opposite can easily be true).
They probably used Radia and it probably just forces the upgrade, not using MS' installer but by putting the files on the machine and setting registry flags for the ones that need to be updated on reboot.
(amd 2100+ or whatever it is) but if they want to fix it, that's fine with me... It does kind of ruin some of the surprises, because it seems to always presage the addition of more enemies to the board. So whenever it happens I automatically get ready for battle, which they probably didn't have in mind designing the game.
They have that already, it's called their corporate website. Except 9 times out of 10 the site has not been updated to show any current postings they have. And by the time it gets updated, they've already found some candidates or have put the position on hold (as they also tend to do for months, even quarters, at a time). So then they take down the posting. Only to repeat the cycle. When I say "they", I am referring to every company I have ever worked for. It's awesome.
So I guess the answer to your question is, no, they don't want a place to list their job openings for free, because they already have it and they're too goddamn stupid to use it properly.
The imdb links at the bottom of the wiki have some very good info revealing how much Lucas has tinkered with these films since day 1, way before the SE's. Also reveals how, in the process of re-cutting the films for the SE's, they got some odd dialogue changes entirely by accident.
The US system cannot use coercion (well, not at the Soviet level, at any rate, but the way things are going, give it time), so it must rely solely on propaganda, which must be believed. This means it's got to be very subtle and psychologically simple and attractive, rather than blatant and absurd, to be at once unobtrusive and effective. It's no coincidence that the mother of marketing and advertising originates here. If you step out of line, the government does not need to come after you: business, the media, and even the public itself will. They cannot jail, torture, or disappear you (the system is testing the waters, though), but they will try to marginalize you, and make it very difficult to function professionally and socially. And at least insofar as members of the public are concerned, they are enforcers without realizing it. Quite elegant.
Here Fabian shields himself from all Slashdot criticism by naming all present and future critics as unthinking instruments of a subtle US-Gov't-approved populace coercion macine. Since he's doing to Slashdot users the same thing he is accusing them of doing to him, I would have to assume the whole thing is an elaborate farce.
Not that it will matter if it's not. Slashdot is one of the great sources of contrarianism in the known universe, a trend which will no doubt continue in spite of any popular movements to beat down Fabian Pascal.
1. Opposite day on that one, SPs decrease the load on the server by increasing its efficiency. That's kind of the point. 2. Vendor specific sql is unavoidable anymore. 3. You can version control SPs like any other code, and maintain them within your codebase if you so choose. 4. Anything can be over-optimized. But tiny improvements in speed can make a huge difference to the user experience when the query load is heavy. It only takes 10 100ms delays to add a second to the user's wait time. Maybe your 1000 SPs were created with that in mind.
Also, I don't understand all these guys saying "let the database and the business logic each do what they do best" and then coming down against SPs. SPs allow the db server to do what it does best, and then hand off a final dataset for the app logic to use (to do what it does best). With SPs you can take advantage of the folks that designed your db, who know a hell of a lot more than you about how to optimize for performance on the thing.
It's not about racism, the fact is that India's and China's economies allow for drastically lower wages. It's the "buying in bulk" that causes outrage, because their commoditization lessens our own worth to ourselves. The economic differences aren't so huge with Canada, so it just doesn't seem as bad. Hence fewer appearances on slashdot.
Brain and brain! What is brain!?

I think if you have to use a hex editor to do it, it probably qualifies as a hack...

I just wanted to point out that somebody at usatoday.com has a sense of humor:

Not really, since there were so many unanswered questions in the first one anyway.

FYI, mine said 60% earlier today until I paused/unpaused it, then it flipped to 50-something and actually resumed downloading the rest, now says 100%.
Soon enough my child, soon enough....

Ummm, there's only like 10 reviews there right now, 2 from "major" reviewers. I'd reserve judgment via meta reviewing until we get some more data...

Not a troll, this is someone's considered opinion, examples cited, perfectly reasonable.
Is to put a revolting porn picture on the site to force the publisher to distance themselves.

No, one of his former band members did the theme song though. He cited time, money and BS as reasons he dropped out of Doom 3.
And thus Reaganomics was born...
