The US government abhors regulating standards like this, just look at our cell phone system. I like the free market and all that but it only really works when the consumers are actually informed (and not just told what to buy).
Until, that is, you swap the games around. What if my screen dreams aren't of something so patently harmless as Puzzle Quest? What if they're of the stealth kills in Manhunt? And what if I dream of stapling Oscar Mayer wieners to badgers and then releasing them in a crowded hall of vegetarians? What a crazy swap that would be! Man I have to lay of the badger stapling game marathons over the weekends or god help me, me and my red Swingline might go to town one day.
So, a UDP connection walks into a bar and it goes up to the bartender.
"Hi bartender, " it says to the bartender.
"Howdy, UDP connection. What'll it be?" the bartender asks.
"I'll have a beer please. Here's a dollar," says the UDP connection.
The bartender takes the dollar, looks at the UDP connection, and continues wiping glasses.
"So, what'll it be?" the bartender asks the UDP connection.
The UDP connection forks over another dollar and orders a beer again. The bartender takes the dollar and stares expectantly at the UDP connection as he continues to wipe glasses.
"So, what are you gonna drink, little UDP connection?" the bartender asks.
"I would like a beer please," and the UDP connection gives the bartender yet another dollar. The bartender takes the dollar and promptly starts wiping the counter. He looks thatthe UDP connection and asks,
"Oh, hello there. Can I get you anything?"
"Yes please," responds the UDP connection, "I'd like a beer. Here is a dollar." And the UDP connection gives the bartender yet another dollar.
And so on... [Memento joke here]
So I guess writing stuff down on it's arms would turn the UDP connection into a TFTP session.
Google agrees with you [pdf warning]
We conclude that it is unlikely that SMART data alone can be effectively used to build models that predict failures of individual drives. SMART parameters still appear to be useful in reasoning about the aggregate reliability of large disk populations, which is still very important for logistics and supply-chain planning. It is possible, however, that models that use parameters beyond those provided by SMART could achieve significantly better accuracies. So SMART is good, but it could be better.
I used to play wow (lvl 70 warrior, lvl 70 priest) for a couple of years. Guild raided MC & BWL back before TBC dropped so I have seen a good part of the content. I let my subscription lapse a couple months ago because it just wasn't fun and exciting anymore. I was wondering if the new xpack would be interesting enough to get mt to resubscribe. I guess not. Oh well, on to bigger and better things.
If Jack just got a chubby I don't think now is the right time to be calling him. Lets give him some alone time first. I'm sure we will hear from him soon enough anyway.
I don't think the poster is taking a jab at windows, they are more likely in the camp where Windows = computer. I think most people are smart enough that if they know wtf a hard drive is that they would realize that it would affect all the other OS'es out there too.

But IT is more of implementation of systems while CS is coding. So if you want to build networks, be a sys-admin/net-admin/DB-admin go IT. If you want to write code go CS. Now some one should probably mention software engineering as well but I'm a little hazy myself on what they do. I assume more of a planning and management of software projects.
Oh and we have universitys here in the states too, its just a different classification of schools. Colleges are smaller, uiversitys are larger.
Anyone have her phone number? I hear she has a wonderful personality and huge "assets". I have no shame when it comes to that kind of bandwidth.
Or maybe I can just live in her basement, a change of scenery would do me good. Besides Mom is always nagging at me to get out of the basement and go see the world.
Whole lot of funny comments modded to +5, need more signal to noise I guess.
Heres what I do when I get in: - Change backup tapes - Do other things that have to be done (move tapes to off-site safe, make sure AC drip pan isn't full, etc) - Check Nagios to make sure nothing is totaly f'ed up - Tea
What I should do: - Review my to do list and try and create some kind of schedule.
You must be new around here, everyone knows Vista can't even run fully on Blue Gene. There is no way these mods could possibly make XP that slow.
All joking aside, I find it humorous that this mirrors real life ride pimping. You pay a lot of money to "improve" your car and its still a Honda Civic and goes no faster then before.
Wow I think we just found intelligent life in Washington DC, alert the press. Call the nation guard, they must be stopped before they do other things that actually make sense.
Yes I'm all for space exploration but I think Mars is a little far out there. There are a lot of other space programs that could really use the funding (launching a new hurricane observation satellites and global warming research satellites come to mind). Maybe we should think about a moon base first and once we get that up and running then a president can start talking about Mars.
Bha, talk about over-engineered. All you have to do is make a blinking cartoon character giving you the finger and you'll be accused of being a terrorist.

And your suggestion would make it a whole lot worse. People have a hard enough time remembering their bank's URL and you want to make it longer? Lets see is my bank's URL http://citi-bank.bank.us.com or is it http://citibank.us.banks.com. Solution: buy more domains. Be quiet or the registers might actually implement your idea. We already have.ws,.tv, and.mobi and thats bad enough.
I have a beter idea, lets use Dewey Decimal Classification! And tubes, steam powered pneumatics tubes to shoot information right to you, it will be so convenient and organized! Quick son, punch up http://229.1039 I want to read my slashdot!
At the end of your write up you talk about trying to reduce your carbon emisions, you might be interested in a Terra Pass to offset some of your carbon load. It makes my morning comute that much less irritating, knowing my car is offset. That and its fun pissing off people driving 55 on the highway, it also gets me 40 MPG in my Ford Focus. Yea baby!
Two words: Free Market
