By now I'm sure this is redundant, but can we just cut back the editorializing a bit? "Most" people aren't putting their photos on Flickr. The/. editors seem to be simply trolling their readership at this point.
Todd Bishop of the Seattle P.I. points this out in his blog. On one hand, Microsoft is a company in business to make money, so this makes sense. But it still leaves a foul taste when coupled with all the other cynical things they've done. This has nothing to do with "the children" or the poor, just building the next generation of consumers.
Offtopic - I only use Windows for work, but install your software on any Windows machine I use. It's especially awesome for laptops. Thanks for the work!
That did work. One correction however... I'm using Solaris 10 11/06, not 01/06
rhlinux1:/09:01:01~$ telnet -l"-fbin" solaris Trying 172.16.141.27... Connected to solaris.jaymzworld.test (172.16.141.27). Escape character is '^]'. Sun Microsystems Inc. SunOS 5.10 Generic January 2005 $ uname -a SunOS solaris 5.10 Generic_118855-33 i86pc i386 i86pc $ id uid=2(bin) gid=2(bin
I ran the following to disable telnet inetadm -d svc:/network/telnet:default
rhlinux1:~$ telnet -l"-froot" solaris Trying 172.16.141.27... Connected to solaris.example.com (172.16.141.27). Escape character is '^]'. Not on system console Connection closed by foreign host
You're thinking of the Coast Guard, and then only in time of war. The mission of the Navy is not to protect the coasts but to project power, keeping the the sea lanes open while denying their use to the enemy. Rail guns don't do that.
I've often wondered why the FSF hasn't reached out to the mainstream community before. The ideas and restrictions behind Treacherous Computing, DRM, and the Copyright Raiders should be enough to raise the hackles of any conservatives and libertarians out there. Until mainstream activists realized the dangers pointed out by RMS this will remain an uphill battle.
As an aside, if the common public are pirates, maybe we should refer to the **AAs as Vikings or Raiders or something. Successively stealing our rights and enforcing their business models..
Ok, I am against illegal immigration. What these guys want is to take immigration policy back to the 1920's and before, where white Northern Europeans should be allowed in, or should be highly preferred over anyone else. I find that un-American because it's not based on your ability to succeed, but where you were born. Clear enough?
I was going to slam the submitter about their "anti-immigration" remark, which is usually weasel speak for characterizing anti-ILLEGAL immigration views. But what the hell, I put off the knee-jerk reaction and checked Wikipedia's VDARE entry to see who these guys really are. They're not only anti-immigration (which is un-American IMHO), they sound like a bunch of racists. But should they be blocked?
Thanks so much! I read that series in the early nineties, and a few years ago I wanted to re-read them but couldn't remember the series title or who wrote them. You just solved a years-long mystery for me. Now off to the library!!
Guess what... I had the opportunity to get Verizon FIOS. It was waaay cheaper than Comcast. But you know what, NO INBOUND CONNECTIONS are allowed! The lure is the speed of fiber, but the result is that you can only consume content on the net, not create it (or host it, or what have you).
Welcome to Verizon's version of FIOS. I had just moved and found out they had FIOS in my area, for a price that made cable look like highway robbery (which it is). Then in conversation with some friends I found out that Verizon doesn't allow *any* inbound connections to their FIOS customers. Basically you are just a content consumer and forfeit the ability to produce anything for the Internet or access your systems remotely using their network. I called them and they verified that they block all inbound ports. I was a very sad geek as I saw my FIOS dreams collapse.
..is KDE! There, would that make him happy? Honestly, it's been said time and time again that the best features of one OS tend to bleed over into others, whether it involves the GUI, networking, or filesystems. Honestly, Apple only makes "photocopier" comments to differentiate themselves in the market from Windows. But I guess logic like that, marketing or otherwise, doesn't generate the page hits required.
But if you're one of the races that may have been dislocated due to the depradations of colonialism or slavery, you're pretty much denied any chance of a family tree dating back to the "Golden Age of Greece". Yes, it comes off as a troll or flamebait, but that's not the intent. It's just a sad fact of history that there's a lot of people disconnected from their past due to the way the world operated at a particular point. So flame away, but I'd rather hear any ideas that could work around the problem.
Although RMS is certainly a hero of mine, the posters on this site are proof that a prophet is never appreciated by his community. We'll know the true score in twenty years or less.

I use Mozilla. What are these "ads" that you and others refer to?
That sounds no more intelligent than Rob Enderle accusing the `crunchies` of hunting him.
As seen right here.
Oh! I thought you said a new "Bender" was released!
inetadm -d svc:/network/telnet:default
I have 11/06, and believe me, I was surprised to find telnet enabled.
Bless your heart!

If not, why are they being subservient to the RIAA?

I swear I am not a grammar Nazi, but somewhere in your home country a High School English teacher just spontaneously burst into flames.

Not until Linux (the kernel) supports the new cards and authentication schemes. So ask in another year.

Concerning the Sidekick saga, how is it Digg got a shout out in the New York Slimes and ./ didn't?
