There haven't been server queues for weeks. I'm on one of the more populated servers from release day, and I haven't noticed any problems in a long time.
Yes, I'm quite suprised a Slashdot story included the motherboard comment. My file server is an old P200 running samba on a 160GB drive, and even with a rather old Red Hat installation (7.3) no extra configuration is required. All it can support under DOS/Windows is 8GB. It's so ancient the MB doesn't even support IDE CD-ROM booting.
I'm having the same exact problem with one of my domains, it has been constantly dictionary spammed for about a year now, apparently from a botnet.
It's so aggrivating to have 3000+ double bounce messages a day to the postmaster account, and no way to stop them. The most infuriating part is the pointlessness of the spammers continuing with it!
A friend of mine finally convinced his parents just last week to get cable modem, because they were actually still paying for a 2nd phone line to use just for AOL...
Interference has always been a huge factor, the Space Shuttle still used iron-core memory in its systems in the late 80s, because it wasn't affected by radiation. Can't just pop in some SDRAM and expect it to work out there.
It's taken way too long for this to happen, and there should be so many more games with at least the choice of DVD-ROM format. A DVD-ROM drive is only $30 or less, someone with the hardware to play a modern game has no excuse to not have the drive.
I actually just switched jobs a week ago. Took a mediocre IT job two years ago after a round of layoffs, and just stayed because it was work and there was nothing else available. Now I found a decent tech company that is a much better fit.
Can you record your OTA HD channels with the HDTiVo?
Yes.

I just want the laser from 'Real Genius'.
Wonder how many of spyware developers are regular Slashdot readers... Step forward, cowards!
Because I'm using qmail, where patching nonstandard features in tends to break other things.

I was going to say just get a PalmIII for $10 on Ebay and a shareware chess game. I could never beat the damn thing. Then again, I suck.
The Team America theme song has been stuck in my head since Saturday. But I can't type it here...
And yes, the deadly panthers were quite scary!
I don't think I've ever laughed so hard at a movie.
I don't recall a lot of differences between MaximumPC and Boot. Still decent reviews and playing around with the top hardware available.
Guess my workday tomorrow has been planned out in advance. (I have dumb users.)

The most awaited game of 1998.....Just picked ANOTHER 3D engine to start the development cycle all over again with!
I care, because now I can drive my 350Z the way I really want to, without destroying it or my insurance. :)

in between "the" and "key", I had stupidly typed "shift" in brackets... I swore I used the Plain Old Text option.
I have a simple strategy on eBay:
If someone has an obvious problem with the key, I don't bid.
After scrolling though those e-mails...damn. Take a typing class.
I hope this doesn't cause shortages or price hikes on RAM!
I finally know the name of the man I've wanted to kill for the past 7 years.
