with an alternate reality gateway, and a crack commando team consisting of a linguist with allergies, a wise cracking Colonel, a brilliant astrophysicist, and someone with a horrible gastronomical infection. Also some grenades.
I don't know...One of the issues with non-lethal weapons it they make it a lot easier to break up a protest. If you actually had to kill people to settle them down, media and conscience could more easily affect change.
One thing I've always been curious about (and it may seem obvious, though I don't know), is whether or not we could subsist off solar energy, if we could use it efficiently. Answer: oh yeah! (easily)
This isn't "lone gunman are dead", but the fact that there is a "Harry Potter leaked info" story right now is just the place for trolls, etc, to post spoilers. I'm avoiding all of the Harry Potter forums as is to avoid this -- I'd rather not have to avoid Slashdot.
People can't multiply four digit numbers together in their heads anymore either. They don't have to. Einstein didn't know his phone number either, he said he could look it up. Who cares if you can't remember your Aunt Trudie's birthday? We have technology for these things.
It's important to remember that the brain can only retain so much. When overloaded, a new fact replaces an old one. Do you all forget the episode of Married With Children, when Kelly went on a sports trivia show? The only thing she knew before she prepared for it was that her dad scored four touchdowns in a single game. She crammed all sorts of knowledge into her head, and was totally kicking butt in the competition, until the final question. "What local hero scored four touchdowns in a single game?" She had forgotten.
It is important to realize that we have a limited number of brain cells. With technology, we can use fewer of them, and this is how it should be.
Considering a judge recently said that Libby could not delay starting to serve his sentence (~30 months), if Bush waited until a couple of says before he left office, Libby's sentence would be just about complete. It would be a waste of a pardon.
What I'd like to know is what can we do to clean up the space junk that is already up there? I know eventually everything will burn up in the atmosphere, but that could take hundreds of years. Maybe I've watched a few too many Sci-Fi shows, but could they send up a satellite to look for some debris and zap it with a laser to vaporize it? What happens if we set of a nuke in the upper atmosphere? Will debris be vaporized? Would it cause other problems? Maybe I'm just being naive, but I think we need to think about this.
If AT&T does any filtering of the content (even if it is simply to block ports), haven't they then lost their common carrier status? Could they then be liable for content transferred on their network, including illegal materials?
Probably a liability issue. Cash is much more easily stolen (especially large amounts), and could be tempting. Harder to cash a check not made out to you personally.
It might not go down that way. Governments that are absolute eventually become sloppy, and oppress the people beyond what they consider reasonable. It only took 200 years or so from Louis XIV in France before revolution started. Sure, you might be able to pacify an entire country, but how can you rule everyone if they are all dead?
May I ask where you are from? I would use the phrase "Good for 'em", and I'm just wondering if this is a regional saying? I'm from the U.S., by the way.
Hopefully, knowing EXACTLY how many episodes they have left to wrap everything up, they'll stick to the PLOT in season four.
I hope so. Unfortunately, as I recall Deep Space 9 (Ron Moore's previous baby) that in their final season, knowing exactly how many episodes they had left, with a war arc to resolve, they managed to clunk out some episodes like the one where Vulcans were playing baseball. Not a good precedent.
The difference between law and medicine is that medicine is a discipline of discovery. Law is that of human creation. Lawyers can shape laws for their own benefit, whereas doctors could only discover what actually exists. Being a lawyer only makes you familiar with the current state of law. There is no absolute requirement that laws be written the way they are. Harder to change the realities of science.
Ok, this is idiotic. Why should a state's electoral vote determination have anything at all to do with voters in other states? This really dilutes Maryland voter's individual input. If this were enacted by everyone, the electoral college would be a unanimous vote. "Winner take all" in a state is better than this, though proportional electoral vote on a per state level is best, IMHO.
If politicians can shape districts to 'coordinate' votes, why shouldn't the people be able to do the same?

that prison isn't also a series of tubes.

From wikipedia
4.26×10^20 J, the yearly energy consumption of the world as of 2001
5.5×10^ 24 J, the total energy from the Sun that strikes the face of the Earth each year
We only use about 1/10000 of the total solar energy (as of 2001).

You must be new here.

I'd love to lose a few pounds powering a GPS system. (And not via exercise)
Rhymes with "cow" I think.
No, no, no. It's Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, of course.
How many millions of people still play Mario bros?
I do.

P.S. Space Roomba?

Eventually, the bacteria will evolve into this.
of 2 Letter country code TLD's, if major corporations get them, and the US doesn't use the .us domain. Too bad it's too late for a whole TLD overhaul.
