Sounds like someone has never had to use medical software. As much as the "zealots" would like to think, not everything is best run on OpenSource. It's not a troll, it's based on 15 years working with medical offices and doctors that don't have time to figure out how to get things to work. And yes, a lot of doctors offices don't have any support on staff or contract other than the EMR or EPM company they are dealing with.
Kind of ironic that at a time when the federal government is wanting a bigger part of Fortune 500 technology departments, that some of the top companies in the world who've recently met at the White House, are now claiming they were hacked. With all these companies being hacked, our only hope is federal goverment stepping in and securing everything.
I can almost say this with certainty that the guy figuring out Scrabble letter values would contribute to society far more doing something else with his time.
I can't see anyone touching them with a ten foot pole unless the price is REALLY beneficial. AMD was done for when they bought ATI. You knew they were desperate then and even more so now. I know a lot of geeks love AMD, but they will never beat Intel because of Intel's brand recognition and DEEP DEEP pockets. And besides, Intel is in bed so bad with companies like Microsoft and Dell then AMD stands no chance of gaining anything there either. I could see Microsoft buying them as a last ditch attempt at catching Apple but if they did, it would be the end of Ballmer and many executives at MS. If they thought the investor fallout has been bad from the Surface debacle, this will be a hundred fold.
Somehow I think if this were released by someone more open source friendly, everyone here would be basking in how awesome it is. But since it's put out my Microsoft, everyone shits all over it. Way to never let me down Slashdot.
Give it a few days. I somehow doubt OpenDNS would take the load that Google's servers are getting right now. If you listen carefully you can hear the sound of millions of geeks crushing the servers there so they can jump on Slashdot and complain about something.

If they're planning on making the next Windows UI mirror Office 2007 then count me on the list of people likely to never buy it. The Office 2007 UI is horrible and badly done. Normally something like building a base on the moon would seem like a cool idea. But in today's world of politics and jockeying for money, this will never see the light of day. Projects over 4 years are guaranteed to get the boot at some point down the road for either political reasons or just flat out budget issues.
Microsoft already has the online store ready to sell music. If anyone has used Urge at all, they've noticed that it's HEAVILY in bed with MS. When WMP11 was in beta, you got a free demo of Urge with it as well. Mark my words, the Urge service will be the MS version of the ITunes store.
Just an FYI from someone who has failed validation with a legit copy of Windows. Mine failed because I didn't let it install, so it came back saying that WGA failed when in all reality it technically didn't. So take with a grain of salt that all of the 20% of failures were false positives.
After everything they've done to shit on open source, they have the balls to announce this? Unbelievable. And if anyone here participates in this then you should never speak about open source again. Nor should you ever bitch about anything MS does, because participating in this would be the biggest sellout of all time.
While they will need something more down the road, AdWords is making them money hand over fist right now. Last figure I read was in the billions per year. Not bad for throwing some text on a page.
While i'm sure people will have the typical "OMG GOOGLE IS TAKING OVER THE WORLD" comments, i'd like to look at the positive side. They are boosting the economy of small town america with this project. Creating hundreds of construction jobs in a town of 12,000. Creating 200 permanent jobs at the start, and i'm sure alot more in the several years folling the site going online. And not to mention what just being one of the homes of Google will do for them. Props to Google for setting up in small towns and doing it the right way. Granted they are doing this for their own reasons as well, but they're also not pulling a Wal-Mart and fucking over a community.

The anti MS people comment like crazy while the pro MS people do the same. I swear there could be a story about finding a cure for cancer above a story about Microsoft and the Microsoft story would have more comments.

Except they offer more than search and ads. TOns of other services make up their server farms. Especially their new tech like fiber to homes and TV
