The problem with using human sewage is that it has to be sterilized before it's used as a fertilizer to kill all possible pathogens that could infect the population. I doubt being pulverized and dried like this would do it. I guess you could liquifiy the powder and expose it to a high power ultra-violet light, or cook the sewage first.
They'll add something and make the open-source engine work mostly, but as a less-reliable system with fewer features.
Exactly... You won't be able to use Linux to access online shopping websites or any place else that requires the new security features. The same ol' "You need IE to access this website" shit.
How long before Microsoft changes or adds something for "security" reasons and prevents you fron using open-source.NET? Maybe we need to start a betting pool.
What about soda fountains at McDonalds (or wherever you buy your greasy fat)? They charge you $1.25 for seventeen cents of syrup and some essentially free carbonated water. It's the highest profit margin in the food industry, but it's merely a simultaneous choice by EVERY restaurant to do it.
There are profit margins and then there are profit margins. At my store the margins run from about 2% to 40%, but if you average it out, the whole store is about 18%. Some things can have a high profit margin some don't. I'll bet if you average it out MS will still be way high on profit. Just look at the bank account.
In Japan yes, but this is America. In America most of the men/boys on the subway are reading Penthouse, Hustler, or Playboy not comic books. We're talking about a cable TV channel that is going to be aimed at the mainstream. A little;-) sex and nudity is OK. The problem is the American general public think "cartoons are for kids" any nudity / sex / language freaks them out.
I try to carry what my customers want, but I have to weigh cost vs. profit. If it costs more than I can make then I can't carry that product. I get stuck with all of the junk that hollyweird puts out just to make a living, but I put a few unprofitable movies (Amelie;-) on the shelf just to spice things up even if they don't pay for themselves.
Why does everyone focus on the porn? I have over 600 Anime tapes and DVDs and exactly two have tentacle scenes. It amazes me that people equate Anime==Porn. I've put up with this in my store for the last 10 years and thankfully I've convinced people around here that Ainme ain't Porn. I know a lot of this on Slashdot is "Teasing the Otaku".
As long as they don't call themselves a "childrens" channel and require a subscription they can show pretty much what they want. The real catch is that they want to get kids as well as adults, so they will have walk that fine line between kid/adult shows. If they do it right they can show adult stuff after 10pm. The hardest thing to do is get sponsers, the ad companies like to aim at a specfic age group.
Hey Matt, make it available on the big dishes. If you do this I *will* subscribe!
Heh... not in California, besides I always thought that if you bought property in an erosion zone you deserve what you get. Your million dollar house falls into the ocean, tough you're the idiot that built it on a cliff.
It is only through copyright laws that we can hope that the artist will receive some benefit from the reproduction of their works.
If there wasn't any copyright you would write your novel, print a shit load of copies distribute them fast and cheap. Grab your money run and write another. Just like now there would companys that would do just this for a cut of your book sales. You won't get a million bucks for that 400 page novel, but you can make a living. Most artist before 1900 didn't get rich, some didn't even make enough to live on the same goes for artist today. That doesn't stop them from creating new works. Most stuff won't be pirated, just the very popular stuff. If books, CDs, ect. are distributed cheaply enough the pirates won't be able to make enough money to be profitable. Today this is possiable, if you remove the roadblocks the MPAA and RIAA put up. If you had a good album you just send a copy to the radio station and they play it, it costs them nothing and you get a lot of exposure.
After all that I must say I'm not one of these people that hate the copyright law. I think it's needed for a limited time, but it's just getting outta hand. I've always liked the 14 years with a one time extension of 14 years. If you can't make money with that, then you should get a job at McDonalds.
The problem is that the Congress critters don't get it. They think "Digital is Different". Untill that changes, laws will be passed to stop first sale and fair use. I just hope someone has the money to take these laws to the Supreme court and the court figures out that the Congress is going too far.
I get VHS screeners all of the time. They all have the no-copy warning and 1-800 number randomally thru out the movie. Some even randomally change to black and white. The DVDs seem to be for the theaters, although I have been sent some for anime and Indie films. A big part of the problem is the security of the prints. Give a $6.00 an hour floor employee $500 and "borrow" the print make a tele-cine copy and return it in a few hours. I think that is the reason behind the digital push. Not quality, but more security. It will be harder to borrow the hard drives than the prints.
I don't think the colors of the "mummy" will be that of the live dinosaur. All of the animal's body has been replaced with minerals. So the color will be that of the mineral. However they should get a better idea of what the animal looked like when it was a live.

Damn, that sounds like Saddam Husains life story.

"It ran so fast it left skid marks on my desktop!". How's that for fast?
Well I guess this one leaves skid marks in your pants.
Does that mean that porn occupies more space than say a Disney movie? Not that I ever watched a Disney movie. ;-)

When I saw that the first thing I thought of was a rabid dog.
I thought it was North American Marlon Brando Look-a-like association...;-)

Just don't use that Metallica Cd for your sound source or you might blow the enamel right off your teeth.
KY
Of course it makes a mess of the keyboard.
Not to worry English isn't the primary language of the U.S. either.

That editorial should be mailed/e-mailed to each congressman and senator as well as to every U.S. citizen.

More like: "?^%/\\?@#$%^*&?|*!"
Yeah, I know it don't make any sense but that what it looks like to me! One of these $#@%^ days I need to learn a little ^&*%$ perl.
Nah... it's "forever minus a day", 95 years is just how far they can see right now. Unless the Supreme court slaps them. Keep your fingers crossed!
