I don't know everything about LokiTorrent but if they are like other tracker sites, explain to me how they distribute the copyrighted material first hand? The point here is not the pirating - it is shutting down services that have legitimate uses simply because a huge organization of corporations is threatened by it.

The individuals who knowingly give away copyrighted material to unlicensed recipients are the "damned hippies" or damned criminals. The tracker sites that provide a way for a legitimate p2p network to operate are not.

Tons of auto manufacturers have been doing throttle-by-wire for years now - my 2000 VW Jetta is just one of the dozens of examples. As far as brake-by-wire goes... I've read about other high end/luxury automobiles implementing it or planning to but Mercedes-Benz was the first. Their overview of the safety features of the E-class mention this but the brakes also come on the S, SL, CLK, and the Mayback models.

However the 2004 recall that was due to a braking system defect rate of 1 in 500 cars will likely make the industry think things through quite a bit more before rushing these advances to market.

Personally I like the direct mechanical link between my foot on the brake pedal and the actuators at the discs. You can feel the road as you're braking and there is no chance for a computer failure. A mechanical failure, yes - but a mechanical failure can also occur in the electro-hydraulic brakes. The computer control just adds another possible point of failure.

But I guess in a few years, I likely won't have a choice. *sigh*

  12. Speaking from experience on Is A Catch-All Address Worth The Spam? · · Score: 5, Insightful

I have a catch-all address at my domain. YES, there are huge amounts of spam. BUT, it is definitely worth the trouble IMHO, and here's why.

1 - most of the spam seems to come to 5 or 6 addresses only - admin, root, sales, webmaster, etc etc. That's cake to filter out straight to trash.

2 - The convinience of being able to sign up for random websites with a different address on the fly is great. For example, signing up on ebay to buy something and using the address "fromebay@mydomain.com" means you KNOW that only one person in the world has your email address so you know who to blame if spam starts coming in, and it is also a piece of cake to automatically filter those ebay emails straight to an ebay inbox, for example.

3 - Not as significant as my first 2 points but still a nice perk in my setup is that I'm able to create email addresses for family and friends on the fly and just setup my own server to split the addresses out into their own inboxes.

So if you will be running the server(s) yourself over slow dsl or cable, the volume of spam MAY be a concern to you. I get about 600-700 spams a day to the common webministrater addresses I mentioned, but it's no concern to me because I don't run the incoming email server and my dsl is more than fast enough to d/l them in a few seconds.

But in any other case, I'd say it's well worth it! And on a slightly different note, I have been very impressed with the honesty and adherence just about everywhere has to their privacy policies regarding email addresses. over 2 years of using my system with about 50 "from@domain.com" addresses, only one of them screwed up and got the address on a spam list somehow - cancelling my account with them and filtering those spams straight to trash solved the problem.

Last year my grandmother was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease and swiftly took a turn for the worse. She had a cell phone through Verizon and was on the family plan with myself and my mother. Once her condition degenerated to the point where should would never use a phone again, my mom tried to cancel her line with 6 months left on the contract. They said flat out "no", even after my mom's explanation, sending her home in tears from their complete lack of compassion.

2 months later after the funeral was behind us, I decided to call and see just how high up I could get by asking for supervisors. At this point, with 4 months left on the contract, and my grandmother actually deceased instead of just of ailing health, despite my explanations and disgust with their customer service, I didn't get very high up and got shut down within minutes.

That was 5 months ago. The INSTANT we paid our last bill on contract, I waltzed into the nearest verizon store with a typed letter of open digust to attach to the form for my reason for no longer choosing their service. We have since moved on to a different provider with inferior coverage but much superior customer service.

It amazes me that with all of the competition in the cellular market ANY company can get away with treating people like that and not suffer a mass exodus of customers. I suppose its because of the fine tradition they have of locking us in to contracts - fortunately, laws (such as California's new cellular fairness law) and competition are slowly starting to change the landscape. When a 30 trial period, a ban on small print, and much shorter contracts are the norm I would not be surprised to see the customer service shape up industry-wide.

The Rebel feels like a toy. It is very cheap plastic, and the lens wobbles.

I recently purchased a Rebel two weeks ago. I've taken roughly 1,000 pictures over the last two weeks ranging from closeup portraits, to wide-lens nature shots, to action shots of my niece's soccer game. As someone who is COMPLETELY impressed and satisfied with this wonderful camera, I must peg the parent's post as a troll.

Yes, the Rebel has a plastic body instead of the metal body on the 10D. But it is a SOLID body. It looks plastic if you're staring at the camera from a distance. But when you are holding it and taking pictures, you can tell it isn't some cheap toy. At first I was questioning the decision to get the "plastic" model of the 10D but over the last 2 weeks, I've grown to actually prefer how lite it is compared to metal SLRs I've used in the past.

As for the lens wobbling - No. This is wrong. If the parent had used a Rebel where the lens wobbled, either the camera or the lens was damaged or the lens wasn't properly attached to the body. The lenses are just as solid as all other Canon lenses in the EF/EF-S line, and the lense mount is as well.

I used a friends D70 before making my decision to go with the Canon. The D70 is, in fact, a VERY nice camera. But I'm afraid I am completely satisfied with my Rebel and have zero regrets, as I think it's just a tiny bit better.
