I'm going to have to agree on Quake 1. Team Fortress and Threewave Capture the Flag are great. TF especially. The team nature of both of them really help introduce you, I think. Learn offense, learn defense, be a sniper, be a demoman. It's grand.
And the first time I ever played 16v16 on TF it was just impressive.
I work for Legato, "now a wholly owned subsidiary" of EMC. I can tell you from the 2 months of being owned by them that EMC does not give a spider-hole about you. EMC sells in $600,000 chunks - not an insider number, just meant for effect.
However, I can say that EMC has been nothing but helpful at Legato. They have something like $10 billion in cash (probably more like $9 billion after Documentum and VMWare).
I know it's been said elsewhere, but I definetly thing EMC is after the higher end software for reliability purposes. As a developer, I hope it means free VMWare licenses for all for Legato.
The difference isn't in the symbols. It's in the ordering. A Genesis controller has A, B, and C buttons. The only button you need to learn, then, is A. Once you get it, you got 'em all.
For PSX, once you learn X, well, what the fuck is O?
I think I was aware of that it just didn't register. Still, the number of people who bought the My Iron Lung EP for My Iron Lung must number in the 10's at most.
I bought Airbag/How is my Driving for Polyethelene, just like everyone else. No one buys a Radiohead EP for the single.
There was a big mix, pop music that only teenagers would be caught dead with, some 90's better music, and then some older stuff like GFA and Fleetwood Mac.
I have to say that the most surprising song on there was My Iron Lung by Radiohead. Radiohead is hugely popular. Kid A sold tons (and granted they went after one song from it). Their next, Amnesiac was good. Their live album which followed was good as well. Their brand new album is great. The RIAA passed up these 3 albums entirely and went after a non-single on an album 8 years old.
They did the same thing with Release by Pearl Jam. I actually want to meet that person. They must own the album. Who downloads Release who doesn't own Ten?
