That was modded higher than my post and marked funny? He threatened me with violence and he gets modded up? I'm not taking the threat seriously, but no threat should ever be modded up!
And to the idiot that suggested I need to lose weight. My hands are not fat. They're big from working with things like yard implements, dumbells and hammers and such. I'm also over 6'2" tall. Idiot.
I suggested that Logitech make a larger mouse with fewer buttons, and because of my choice of words I get threatened and attacked? I'm going to stay away from this site for a while.
Hey, Logitech! I'm a big guy with big paws. How about making a wired optical mouse with two buttons and one wheel that's about 50% larger than every mouse you currently make? These little buttons all over the sides and top just get in the way. I have the MX310 and it would be great if it was bigger and had 3 less buttons. You could make two or three sizes of the same thing and sell more mice that way. You know, instead of tacking on more garb... er um... features.
Also, opaque plastic please. The old optical mice with the translucent plastic were annoying. Loud colors are wasted on me too.
IF they were maintained and cleaned, they'd be fine. The janitors are overworked and often neglect them, so they don't work as well as they should. Just because they don't flush doesn't mean they don't have to be cleaned. And I've heard the blue "juice" that seals the drain is very expensive, so it doesn't go in the drain as much as it should.
IF people that used the urinals were *cough* caring or at least responsible adults, they'd be decent substitutes. These would be a huge problem in a prison, high school, sports stadium or just about anywhere the public is likely to vandalize things.
The wind does not blow everywhere all of the time. Wind generators have to be placed strategically. Then you got the NIMBYs...
I want to see more wind generators installed myself. I'm not only not allowed to install one here (homeowners association rules), but it wouldn't generate much energy because we don't get enough wind to start the blades turning more than a few days/month.
That was my favorite sketch from that show. We need much more sarcasm in comedy. Of course, I am a product of the 1980s (the Gen X sarcasm culture pinnacle). Like, Duh!
I also liked the sketch with Dave Foley (store keeper who can't speak English, but can explain that he can't speak English in perfect English) and Scott Thompson (a guy that just wants to buy some shoes).
Tomorrow (or yesterday depending on interpretation of the rules) my Staples rebate is due. There's no mail tomorrow. I really don't think I'm getting it my $50.
Oh yeah, I got the "easy rebate". The website said the rebate wasn't valid or some BS. I emailed and complained. They said I had to send in a mess of paperwork via the US Mail. I did. I kept copies, etc... $50 + postage + my time + toner + paper!
I'm in agreement with some of the other posts. Rebates should be outlawed by the federal gov. Except maybe "instant rebates". There's no reason to ban those. We just want our stinking money back, like we were promised.
How about the BBB, Consumer Reports or someone does random auditing of companies with rebate offers? Those that don't give the rebate money back get blacklisted and reported to the FTC or whatever. Assuming we can't get a law against rebates altogether.
I wish:
"Dear Mr. Office Max,
We are writing to inform you that we have received complaints that you are not paying for valid rebates from your recent sale on blank CD-Rs. Some of these rebates are well documented and will be kept with the complaints in your public file. You have 48 hours to fix all of the complaints and pay your $10,000 fine or your business license will be suspended for 14 calendar days throughout the country.
Thank you, The Rebate Police"
If we make it difficult for them when they fail to pay on valid rebates, they'll have less incentive to offer rebates to begin with.
I have broadband and the cable company still makes me think twice before downloading big files because of their usage caps. If the cable company sold the movies directly it would be closer to functional, but watching movies on a computer sucks. It's basically just PPV on demand.
Someone needs to mod the parent up. Soundstorm was one of the big things nVidia had over VIA and SiS. The other thing was not being VIA or SiS. Not that VIA hasn't gotten tons better lately. I've never really been interested in SiS.
Yeah, you could just get an Audigy 2 ZS or whatever, but it's not the same AND it's another $80+. The nForce motherboards were about the same price as the VIA motherboards, but they had far superior integrated audio.
I don't see a lot of people moving from Intel chipsets to nVidia chipsets without a slight regret, unless nVidia is keeping another secret. The integrated firewall on the NIC might be a nice plus though.
The press release says (to me) that it's just so Intel gets to have SLI available to its customers. SLI is going to be a very small niche market. 6600GTs in SLI cost the same as a 6800GT and are roughly the same speed in some tests. Twin 6800GTs or Ultras are about all that would be worth it and it's a LOT of money, heat and power for one computer.
Yeah, there were games for it, but I've never seen a game console with a dot matrix printer and a 5.25" floppy drive. I also wrote some BASIC programs on it. I never did that with my Atari 2600. Yep, I had one.:P
The connector for the peripheral expansion box gave me worries when I had it. It was a thick sheilded ribbon cable with a heavy plastic connector hanging off the end of the keyboard. I think I used a chunk of wood to support it.
I do remember the video being horrible though. (the tip in the article is about the video). I even bought the TI brand monitor. I think it was a 13"?
A lot of the people that don't want to believe in "Global Warming" aren't against the idea that the Earth is increasing in temperature, just that humans have a measurable impact on it. We are insignificant compared to the natural processes of the planet alone. The temperature on a geological timeline moved up and down "A LOT" (technical term) and since we've been running around with R12 and chain saws it's been pretty stable. But, it's way too soon to say, oh yeah WE doomed the planet... Everybody hold your breath and read your Junior Skeptic magazine or plant a tree or something.;)
No, it has nothing to do with increasing effiency.
It's reducing our demand for fossil fuels (nuclear/solar power separates water).
CLEANER air.
Keeping cars simple and cheap to own and operate. How many mechanics do you know that would work on a hybrid?
Maintaining basic infrastructure (gas stations) and making it possible to drive long distances. Battery powered cars would require long recharge times.
If you have a car use that to carry stuff in. If you have a dorm room, apartment or house leave some of it behind. Do you actually use all of that stuff enough to put up with the burden of carrying it all? You can listen to a laptop the same as an iPod and you can supposedly store data on an iPod. If you have a CD burner or a portable (USB or Firewire) hard drive that's another option. Get a cheap desktop for home and leave the laptop at work. Get high speed internet access and use SSH or VPN. Pen drives, flash memory cards, etc...
In short "carry" less stuff. I don't like to walk around with $3000 in my wallet either.
The store looks like a good place to get a couple of LEDs. I loved the little tutorial on circuit design.
Digikey is horribly awkward. Who the heck needs 1000 1.0 Ohm 5% 0.10 Watt resistors? PDF catalog shopping is just so wrong too. Minimum orders, etc... Obviously not meant for the hobbiest.
Personally I'm getting tired of all bright (or super or ultra) LEDs. It's a great idea if they're used for illumination and not a status indicator lamp. My frickin Logitech mouse and Dell keyboard both have annoyingly bright LEDs in them. Why? Color is irrelevant, it's the intensity that bothers people.
I have tons of electronics plastered with LEDs in my house and at work and there's not a single blue LED among them. The article's author is regretting a fad he hopped on or something? I don't know anyone with ANYTHING that contains any blue LEDs (off the top of my head) either. I guess it's kind of like fake gold trim on a car. Some people like it...
How about giving the policemen/women BACKUP and BULLETPROOF VESTS? It's like their job or something?
It is absurd for the police to ask people to wear different colored headphones. If the crime against iPod owners is that high, the police should be keeping their mouths shut and running a massive amount of stings. Potential thieves should be more concerned that the guy with the white headphones is being watched by two patrol cars and a squad on foot around the corner.
Mod parent up. This is the way I remember it, so it must be correct.;)
Kodak still makes some of the nicest DSLRs you can buy. Go check out their website. The 14n and the SLR/n are some of the only DSLRs with full size CCDs.
They've had lots of consumer grade digital cameras too. I remember lots of people drooling over 2 MP DC290.
OTOH Sony is far from my favorite company, so I guess I'm biased.
Why on Earth don't they put in a second gear? The speed freaks could stop whining about the top speed being a lousy 100 MPH, like they spend more than 1 hour a year at that speed.
I'm guessing about the effeciency of it all but, don't you also get more range for the normal drivers with a second gear?
I had one also. I sold it on the internet a long time ago. It does eat batteries and it does have weak reception. I could unplug the antenna from my TV and still get a better picture than the R-3 with the antenna plugged in, on the same channel. I expected MUCH better reception for the huge chunk of cash I paid. I think I paid over $600 for all of the gadgets and goodies.
I also used to have a no gap (cell) wide band scanning receiver. Same deal. If it doesn't work, what's the point?
How much do you have to pay to get a decent radio? The Icom R-8500 is about $1500 without any toys. I'd probably buy one if I knew there was something cool to listen to here. I don't really think there is though.:(
$50 to see marketing people and sales people pushing educational what?
I've been thinking of going to COMDEX for a Vegas vactaion for about ten years. It's getting less and less likely that I'll ever go now. Depressing news.
The national debt is not $44 trillion. Yes, I clicked the CNN link. It's misleading.
I would love to have some more windmills in the area. It's not the best place for it though. The energy generated would not cover the cost of the windmill. I shopped around and talked to people that had/have them. They're only good in areas with lots of sustained winds.
We could also use another few nuclear (nuculer?;) ) power plants. Radioactivity should scare people about as much as dirty water. As long as it's not clogging your lungs or all over your house, you're probably OK.
NIMBYs are going to have pioneer other planets if they want a perpetual pristine view. Earth isn't getting bigger AFAIK.
I think that's Altivec. If there's a way to run the G4 with a different core that doesn't have Altivec support you can see the difference.
The distributed.net client is about the only program I know of the G4 does so well on. Maybe somebody will post another? NOT Photoshop.
Clockspeed isn't as important as it used to be. The top of the line P4 is faster than the top of the line Athlon and the top of the line Athlon is faster than the top of the line G4. Remember that the Athlons use quantispeed architecture (marketing BS) too. I bought an Athlon last time and I'm considering a P4 for next time. Either that or an Athlon 64/Opteron.
I guess sounds get me more than imagery. Doom is just amazing for how old it is. I went back and played it on an old laptop and it's still fun. The graphics look VERY dated though.
I'm playing the Postal 2 demo now and I think I've become desensitized, as nothing bothers me much anymore. Stab the girl, shoot the dog, piss on the policeman, blow up the car, set fire to the cashier, etc... However, if it were real I'd be one of the people shooting back followed the barfing in the alley scene.
I remember playing lots of games, but those are the 2 or 3 that most affected me.
Battlefield 1942 sometimes has me looking for cover when I hear an airplane overhead though. The Desert Combat mod makes the game about 4 times better.
I agree to some of the comments, but I'm a pretty big "Stargate SG1" fan. They had an awesome time travel episode not to long ago. Very funny "Groundhog Day" homage. And "Tracker" isn't nearly as bad as "John Edwards". If only it were legal to put a bounty on his head.
Look what happened to the The Learning Channel. "A Dating Story"? WHAT THE HELL!? You'd think it'd be about 50% PLUS documentaries. I wonder what the Science Channel is like? "Buffy's Beauty Tips for Debutantes"?
Informercials and black and white episodes of "The Outer Limits" won't keep my TV on their channels. But I do like SG1.
I had no problems downloading either one at near max speeds for my DSL connection.
This one was too Japanese-ish. Why would she believe she was some kind of martial arts expert in the real world? Who is she? Who's the guy she thinks she's fighting?
That was modded higher than my post and marked funny? He threatened me with violence and he gets modded up? I'm not taking the threat seriously, but no threat should ever be modded up!

You guys have a really good thing going. Please don't fall into the professional wrestling marketoid black hole. Thank you.
The question:
Has working on the show prompted you (the hosts) to study up on a subject?
The Librarian: Quest for the Spear You didn't specify that it had to be a good movie. :P
The wind does not blow everywhere all of the time. Wind generators have to be placed strategically. Then you got the NIMBYs...
