I know this sounds crazy, but given its bowl shape terrain, instead of pumping out the water and rebuild, why don't they rebuild over the water?

One thing I've wondered is why floating houses aren't constructed in heavy flood areas. Rings could be attached to the house that would allow it slide up very long poles to keep it in place when the water rises.

The true cause is that the *AA's aren't producing quality material. It's all formulaic garbage. Most of the material they are protecting has already been produced and it was from a much more creative and open time. My daughter is 14 and most of what she and her friends listen to are music like Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, etc. The crap they try to shove down teenagers(their largest market) throats isn't working anymore.

I think as new talent arrives we are going to see more and more being produced by the artists themselves. The tools and distribution channels already exist, we just need artists to realize this. I think once these trends shift we will see the sudden end to this already dying beast.

I doubt you are going to have the infrastructure to dig tunnels or make them in to livable habitats. Lunar soil is nasty and it wouldn't be surprising if tunnels would be unlivable without a liner. I think the idea is to land a tin can like the habitat modules planned for the original U.S. ISS or the Russian equivalent, and then bury them in regolith(dirt). Mike Griffin's desire was to use the original U.S habitat module for the ISS though it was cancelled long ago and replaced with the Russian Mir 2 modules.

You could have robots blast out the tunnels with shaped charges, then just inflate liners made of Kevlar or some other strong material. The hardest part would be the airlock. The issues with dust would be the same as with tin cans but you are using way less building materials and have a much sturdier base.

  11. Re:Never give up, never surrender! on NASA Policy Includes Mars, Moon Missions · · Score: 1

The absolute pinnacle I can see NASA aspiring to is a moonbase which will end up looking a lot like an ISS except on the moon. People living in tin cans trying to find things to do on a place totally hostile to life.

I think it would make more sense to tunnel into solid rock for a moonbase. You would have a natural radiation shield, wouldn't have to worry about leaks as much, be protected from meteorites and expanding the base would be much simpler.

I always hear about these great keyboards, and I'd love to try one out, but they're never available in retail outlets like Circuit City or Masters Electronics.

Well that's because when a small company makes a product they can't afford to manufacture the number needed to put them in every chain store. That is what reviews are for, they get free samples to try out and tell us what they think. If enough people like the product and it makes enough money then you probably will see it hit the chains.

It's because of the internet that you see small companies put out innovative little products that would never see the light of day if the only way to purchase them would be at a retail store. Do you even understand the logistics and costs involved in mass producing enough product to stock them in a chain store?

Did you even bother to read the comment? It's not about the price, moron. I want to buy these keyboards, REGARDLESS OF PRICE, from an actual store, where I can see the actual good. I do not want to order from some Internet site, REGARDLESS OF PRICE. Indeed, and you cannot find anything beyond normal or traditional ergo keyboards in contemporary retail outlets. Such keyboards will never be popular unless they are easily purchaseable by the masses.

No need to throw little temper tantrums just because you can't get your grubby little hands on it first. It's actually very simple to understand why.

As my sibling stated, it's not the color, it's the ghosting. When you're playing a fast paced action game, and all you see is one long blur, it's pretty obvious that the LCDs aren't up to par (at least not the 21" LCDs, at least relatively cheaply). I have a Dell 1800FP at work that is relatively new. We play old games on that on occasion over lunch. Grand Theft Auto 1 starts streaking in no time. It's really noticeable when you're on a motorcycle and zooming straight ahead.

There are LCDs for gaming that don't ghost, but they're EXTREMELY expensive if you want a lot of real estate + low response times. A 21" replacement LCD is already a lot more than a CRT, and when you factor in the lower response rates ...

My NEC LCD1970 has beautiful color and 8ms response time. It cost around $500 but it blows away any crt I've ever had. My main game is UT2K4 and it plays with no ghosting or blurring whatsoever. I don't miss my back breaking 21" crt at all.
