    It is not the socket per se, it's the pinout of the CPU. Considering this, you sure have a point. It is not really practicable to design a CPU with 2000 pins and using only a subset of them, depending on the connected hardware (memory, etc.).

    Military move or not, self-refleting should be done anyway, although this is not specific only to the US (e.g. China->Tibet). To have the "ultimate" control does not protect from bad people (no example needed, I guess). Why not drop some of fears and start to work together with the _rest_of_the_world_ (this is US specific)?

    Many people have complained (mostly on non-HL2, non-Vivendi, non-Valve sites) about the tie-in of HL2 and Steam. Many have complained about the "1984"-Situation and not able to play if Steam goes down, and so on...

    Now, there is someone which complains about the same thing, but now many people here complain about the organization which does something good for the consumer (yes, that's you) !!

    But hey, I don't have karma to burn, so: what the fuck do you really want (tie-in or not)?

    I for one, am glad for the existance and work of such organizations... and yes I'm not american...

    Usually I start with the Mandelbrot set in ASCII or graphics, depending on the abilities of the language/system. This is also the first thing I did for the 3 CPUs in embedded systems I had to deal with lately... Manddelbrot in ASCII over 9600 baud line, well, not pretty but nice :-)
