  1. What a time on Chinese City Gets 'Smartphone Zombie' Walkway (bbc.com) · · Score: 5, Funny

...to be alive! Sometimes I wonder if I'm living in a slightly rubbish cyberpunk novel!

  2. Re: Agile is bullshit on Should Developers Abandon Agile? (ronjeffries.com) · · Score: 1

Agile is an approach, with rules. Once you water those rules down, you no longer have Agile! That's the danger of democratically deciding an approach.

  3. Bravo on Tesla Short-Sellers Lose $1 Billion (cnbc.com) · · Score: 1

Not even close to being a Tesla customer but it's still a good feeling to watch vultures getting a good kicking!

  4. Which is worse? on Suicide Rates Are Up 30 Percent Since 1999, CDC Says (nbcnews.com) · · Score: 1

Relative wealth is much more important than absolute wealth when considering happiness. That is markedly worse.

  5. Re: Talk about male privilege on Suicide Rates Are Up 30 Percent Since 1999, CDC Says (nbcnews.com) · · Score: 1

That was not how I read it. In fact, case studies are mostly male.

  6. Why are wages not rising? Middle class jobs disappearing?

  7. Sometimes it is difficult to produce evidence though, for things that are clearly correct. It's a bit like when geeks challenge Homeopathy and call it fake. Millions of people use it daily yet 'science' labels it fiction. Just because science is lagging shouldn't stop people being able to use powerful homeopathic medicine. I like to call it 'Post-Science' - things that people know in their gut but cannot prove to boffins in white coats - yet!

  8. I'd rather go OS than pay a subscription but then I'm a casual user. Having my computer out of action due to viruses also has a cost for me nowadays, so that's pirated software out.

  9. Let's hope the AI never gets to read Twitter, it might go haywire!

  10. Not disagreeing but please let me know where I can get 10% annually, with no risk!

  11. The quickest and least bloated browser is my biggest priority, sorry to be shallow.

  12. "Cutting-edge skills are evolving faster than universities can train people" This is your problem - you expect a university to do your training! Shows that companies have gotten so used to recruiting from abroad that they have forgotten that they used to lead the way in R&D and training!

  13. China has intelligent leaders on Chinese President Xi Jinping Calls Blockchain a 'Breakthrough' Technology (cnbc.com) · · Score: 1

Quite a novel idea, having intelligent politicians, like scientists, engineers etc Wonder what Trump thinks of blockchain? Apparently he struggled with the difference between HPV and HIV as a health concern, despite extensive explanation.

  14. Consumers on America's Teens Are Choosing YouTube Over Facebook (bloomberg.com) · · Score: 1

A useful number for me would have been numbers of YouTube users who create content (actual content) versus the dumb consumers. At least Facebook required some interaction!

If everyone who has lost a key still had it, Bitcoin wouldn't be worth as much, since there would be more circulating. Likewise, if nobody had bought a pizza with Bitcoin, it would be worth precisely f all today! While you lot are moaning about missed fortunes there are other people quietly getting on with spotting the next big trends and not living in the past.

  19. Blame hippies on Ask Slashdot: Did Baby Boomers Break America? (time.com) · · Score: 1

The fallout from the drug-addled selfish Sixties is that the same hippies who once renounced materialism got old and then did a complete U-turn.

  20. As a writer he should understand programming! on A Middle-Aged Writer's Quest To Start Learning To Code For the First Time (1843magazine.com) · · Score: 0

The guy is a writer! Why would he struggle to understand the concept of programming? He has to deal with language rules and nouns, verbs, adjectives etc on a daily basis. He has also considered the fact that there are other languages besides English and that some of those have different rules, even down to the direction in which they are read. In other words, I call bullshit! Kids are being taught to code at primary school - he has surely not been able to avoid articles on that subject.... it is called 'General Knowledge'.

  21. Inefficient on Is Cockroach Milk the Ultimate Superfood? (globalnews.ca) · · Score: 1

The whole reason for sudden interest in insects is that they will be kinder on the environment than other sources of protein. I doubt too much jungle will need to be cleared for cockroaches but this still seems an incredibly inefficient way to get nutrients. Just eat the damn things, don't milk them!
