I also loved Cryptonomicon and bought Quicksilver as soon as it came out. After 200 pages, it totally lost me. It had only a few scant traces of NS wit to keep the reader going through the dry parts. Never though I'd see him write a book that almost dares you to read it. Quite a disappointment.
In the former case, they were punishing Tim Robbins for an act of political speech totally unrelated to anything having to do with baseball or Robbins' acting career.
They probably wanted to avoid problems from the righties who would take offense at having such an "anti-american, commie, blah blah blah" at an event for the all-american sport.

If you lived in the Northeast US or Canada what were your memories of the August Blackout?
During peak use times, our electric company asks local businesses to switch to generator power. We didn't know for a while after the fact (i.e. - clients behind PBXs were unreachable, etc) that there was a blackout for a little while.
I was tempted to stay in my office overnight, but there were no comfortable places to sleep and I ran out of change for the snack machine. While most people sweltered, I had air conditioning, phones, internet, and all. In the end, hunger got the best of me and I went home.

Also, it proves that more than his memory has just been sold.
Clearly both these people did something wrong, made money, and then got caught. I don't see this as a positive story for spammers.
This story seems to be the exception to the rule. Think back to just about every mainstream spammer article that has been linked to Slashdot. Every one of them talks about the money and wealth the spammers accumulate (Ronnie Schelson's new Corvette, Scotty Richter's palacial home, etc). At least this shows the other side of the story: a spammer losing it all.
other readers point to the official Microsoft press release, sporting a quote from noted tech analyst P.Diddy: "[I] believe that the system's cultural influence as a social entertainment brand has only just begun."
All enrolled students as UM get free access to a law office
Looking at the link, that looks pretty impressive. My school, like many others, had a lawyer available as well. However, the attorney was only available for legal advice. You would still have to pay him/her or another attorney out of pocket to represent you.
Word to the wise: just because your school has a legal service doesn't necessarily mean that they are full-service.
I would really like to see a worm/virus/trojan that makes the user's hard drive rip itself out of the computer, beat the user with a bat and run screaming down the hall.
Just have the virus send an email to the Sysadmin. Same difference.

I hope my brain can finally play imported and backed up games.
The name of the show is "Off the Hook". Off the Wall is done on Tuesday nights on WUSB (also by the same host).

Did Eckerd pick up the option for the World Series?

I only buy movies prepared under rabbinical supervision.
I somehow feel that the answer involves the Ice Capades.

Or for those of you who know Diddy-speak:
"yeah, uh huh, uh, thats right, c'mon now"
I don't think that sharing your broadband connection via wifi makes you an ISP any more than giving your buddy a sandwich makes you a restaurant.
As an avid farker, I now refer to The Passion by the nickname I saw there: The Jesus Chainsaw Massacre.
I specifically remember Walmart requiring the song list for Nirvana's In Utero to list the song "Rape Me" as "Waif Me"
I remember that. I hope I'm not the only one who envisioned the sanitized version having Elmer Fudd singing "Wape Me".
