Wow. I put this right up there with "You meet the nicest people on a Honda" and "Volvo, its boxy, but its good." I would say that the high percentage of known artists and academics that are Mac Users is what makes this urban legend keep getting bandied about. As a person who supported Mac's in an earlier incarnation of my career, I would say that the typical Mac user is one that "thinks" they are smarter than everybody else. Then they call tech support to come save them from their own superiority.
Considering that Vancouver, B.C is the most expensive city to live in in North America, I would have to think that taking a pay cut to move there would be suicidal or at the very least, masochistic.
Touche! Its funny when you sit down and realize you actually proved the very topic you were trying to disprove. I wonder if Sowell's VCR clock is still blinking? (Quick subject change)
I disagree vehemently with Kay's opinion regarding interfaces. The breakdown is definitely between the designer and the user. Having had the privelege of working on an uber-flexible touch screen interface that everybody hated, and a one dimensional electromechanical one that users loved forces you to redefine flexibility and elegance. Just because you can modify or display a given parameter does not mean that you want to or have to display it or modify it. Think through every design. Badly implemented tools have a way of becoming badly implememted products.
And just so I can get in on this, I used to love crossing the CT state line from MA going south on route 91 doing 129mph in my 1988 CRX Si with the 1.8 liter 4 just because I could back in the early 1990's. Then I moved up to a 1992 Prelude Si and was dissapointed because Honda used the same gearing and redline, so again I was stuck at 129mph. It just wasn't fair!
Actually Robert Goddard was first in a number of these desiagns. Konstantin Eduordovich Tsiolkovsky has many ideas that in some cases predate Goddard's, for example the use of liquid fuels, or ideas that follow Goddard's, such as the use of multiple stages in a rocket, which Goddard received a U.S. patent for in 1914. Of the two, Tsiolovsky was more the theoretical scientist and Goddard more the technical specialist or engineer. I'll leave the Hermann Oberth research to somebody else.
I have always found that reading about F1 in Road & Track was much more thrilling than actually watching a race. At least for the last 15 years or so. The most fun was watching Nigel Mansell leave F-1 and go to Cart where he trounced everybody. Now that was some racing.......
Actually, not in the context to which I was referring. I meant exclusively homo to exclusively hetero and vice versa. While it is true that "Bisexuals may choose to have more than one relationship with more than one gender at the same time or may choose to be monogamous with one gender or prefer one gender." Common usage cetainly seems to lean more toward the first half of the definition rather than the latter. But thanks for helping out with the discussion.
"Doesn't stop a whole lot of nutter Christian fundies from believing otherwise though"
Was that a necessary comment? It doesn't stop a bunch of nutter Islamic Fundamentalists from trying to kill us just because we are Christians or Jews, or just plain old secularists trying to live under a rule of law instead of their rules of god via the prophet Mohammed. But regardless, is it relevant to this discussion?
Other than that, you said it exactly right. Societal mores in the 50's were such that homosexuality was treated as mental illness and a cure was sought. The mental health community may overall say that it is no longer such, but it is hardly a homogenous statement. Some people do transition between homo and hetero lifestyles during their life. Some individually, some with help from counselor's who aid them in transition either way.
I thought about modding this post down, but I realized I would much rather join in this discussion.
Hopefully we'll keep that organlegging problem under control with these other new developments. Luckily you can read a lot about De Grey's publications here .
You really think that China, India and the Middle East are LESS POLLUTED than the U.S.? Too Funny! Obviously you have never been out of the U.S. They need the high birth rates to make up for the squalid conditions. Then as more areas benefit from modern hygiene, the population will expand rapidly. Then as they adopt a more Western diet they start dropping from heart disease and diabetes.
Actually, if you care about the US read this daily. And if you want to do something about it, go here.
Actually I'm a condescending Unix user from way back. Here's a nickel kid........

Of course, I went and believed a person from B.C. who told me this and now I look it up and much to my chagrin....... It ain't so.

And yes I know it is disappointed not dissapointed. I hit the submit button too fast.

He'll be buying all those drinks "on the arm"...
Remember this?
Its a resume!
Didn't a quick hit from the sonic screwdriver diable a Dalek? How bad could they be?

100% Bug Compatible with Orkut! (Or InCircle) What a great feature!
I never would have thought of bringing my bugs along with me to the new job....
Also forgotten was:
"Imagine what we could do with a Beowulf cluster of these!"
What does any of this have to do with the topic at hand?
what does Frequency Shift Keying have to do with this topic?
"Sorry about that Chief."
Thunderbird 1 was always my favorite. Official Site
