Now, do you not remember childhood being violent because it was fairly normal and didn't leave an impression on you, or because you spent your time alone with your Atari?
No ones childhood is normal. Desensitization of violence and the escalation of violence seem to go hand-and-hand. But maybe it is other social issues. That was my point. Parents need to be involved.
BTW - The 2600 didn't come out until I was 11 or 12. We had the Radio Shack electronic kits before the Trash-80 came out.
There has always been violence among adults. I think their point is the effect of watching violence on children. I don't remember as much child based violence when I was a kid (all I had was an Atari).
That being said, I think most of the blame for the increase in child based violence should be on the parents. They're the ones who use video games and DVD players as babysitters.
FTA: "The teddy bear sitting in the corner of the child's room might look normal, until his head starts following the kid around using a face recognition program..."
Did that give anyone else the chills? Think Chucky.
And we'll be damned if we'll let the suits kill it now that is has, dammit.
The "suits" are not always right but they do have to respond to the market. It was a black day when they cancelled Family Guy, but the market has brought it back from the dead.
This is why I loved slashdot. Thank you Zonk and tyrani for showing the spirit of what geekdom is all about. A story with no political bullshit, no anti-corporate rhetoric, no M$ bashing. Just good-clean fun with IT stuff.
BTW OT - Has anyone else seen the drives on TG?
In the long run, the librarian-in-chief cautioned against the domination of America for generations to come and its potential to skew thought without reflecting the diversity of civilizations.
Isn't that wat America is... a melting pot of other civilizations?
This reminds me of the TI-99/4A's cassette tape storage. For those of us who couldn't afford to buy the floppy drive, it was fun wating 30+ minutes to save/load your programs. It would wait for you to flip the tape or change it if needed. I guess what did you expect for $500 in the early 80's?
Does it come with the two Asian women to help hold it up?
Right idea with a bad example. The Bill of Rights only applies to American citizens. The Gitmo 'enemy combatants' are not American citizens.
Frankie Avalon and The Indigo Girls?

It won't install Adblock. There's no way I'm using it. I mean, how can I be expected to read Slashdot with ads?
Ctrl Alt Delete S
Is another quick fix for XP users.

To qualify for the record, does the airplane have to stay within a set of latitudes? What would prevent someone from just circling one of the poles?
It doesn't appear that any of the strips have to actually be good. Me and my stick-figure-guy could win this one.
Please, just let the show die with a little dignity.
What would you say is the percentage of your fan base that wear pants that actually fit?
My tin foil hat has been rendering me invisible for years. Right now I'm wearing it naked at work.
"Hi Bob, what are you looking at?"
As always, take these claims with a dose of salt the size of the Hope Diamond.

Hearsay for nerds. Stuff that never happens.

Comments are for wusses. I like to live dangerously!
Floaters is an appropriate name for these types of ads.
One hopes the government is better at computer viruses than their attempts on humans.
Remeber your ancient TNT graphics card that had 16MB of memory?
How rude! That is more memory than my first computer. Remember your somewhat old TRS-80 that had no graphics memory?

I'm out the door and on the way to the store. Which one should I buy?
Move.
