    No, when the NSA has no check on it it's easy to shoot off barbs. Especially since they're in the business of spying on US citizens. When AT&T openly colludes with the NSA to pass all traffic to the NSA it's not just AT&T that loses my respect.

    And I'm not taking YOUR word that they're doing what they're supposed to be doing.

    Oh, please. There is nothing quite so pathetic as the lament of someone in the privileged class. This particular story may involve a woman who gamed the system, but if you think women aren't generally discriminated against and made to feel uncomfortable with sexual innuendo then you are not paying attention.

    What we did to them? While I fully believe the US is culpable for the woes of many places in the world I think the greatest enemy of the Chinese is the Chinese. The US didn't support Mao and the US was not complicit in the building of a police state in China.

    That's true. It takes hardware, too. Learn to program a micro controller and use the FTDI usb to serial driver to build a contraption that uses a relay hooking up the mains power to your chair so that it switches on every time you fire up your web browser.

    The invention of writing has been blamed for the decline in our ability to remember long oral histories. Do you think we are significantly dumber because we can't remember and recite The Iliad or The Odyssey, which was originally a tale told from memory? Everything in measure, of course, but any devices that offload tasks so that we are freed up to dream up even better and more complex ideas is OK by me.

    I find bull fighting offensive, but it is a great quote. And I have the feeling that Hemingway wasn't talking about spectating, but rather participating.
