Video or audio just for the sake of being flashy is a dumb idea and I usually won't watch or listen. If I want audio and video I'll devote my full attention to my TV feed. Otherwise when I'm accessing information on the Internet I want text. I can read it far faster than someone speaks on a video interview for one thing, and for another text lends itself far better to (human)multitasking than video or audio does.
Meh, I'm overly sensitive to the subject, and no I do NOT drive while sleepy or otherwise impaired because of that. I lost a good friend because the asshat in the other lane dozed off and ran headfirst into his car. It's a very serious thing and they DO need to crack down more on it. I'd love to see some of the millions spent on anti DUI advertising spent on making people more aware of how dangerous (and illegal) driving under ANY kind of impairment is.
I've cooked even longer than I've worked with computers, and the latter started at around age 9 or 10. I love science and am a huge fan of physics and chemistry from a semi layman (I majored in chem briefly and worked some in the industry) standpoint. I'm a huge geek in many areas. I also loathe this approach to cooking. To me cooking is an art, and the subtle vagaries (which often bring to mind Chaos theory and it's ilk) are one of the most beautiful things about it.
I think we're as likely to break down cooking into pure science as we are to create a truly sentient machine intelligence within the next 20 years. That being said, there are some fascinating things about 'molecular gastronomy'. I just think the end result loses something, perhaps a bit of it's humanity?
Those are just my opinions of course, as one who loves cooking and science. As always, your milage may vary.
You are right in that you shouldn't have been driving in the first place, and you should have been arrested for driving while impaired. I'm just glad you didn't kill anyone.
You obviously don't understand what an auction is. Once the winning bid is made it's a verbal contract for sale. The seller can't back out at the last minute in a traditional auction once the winning bid is in, so why should they be able to back out in an Internet auction?
A young relative of mine was assaulted, and a plea bargain is what saved this poor girl from having to testify in excruciating detail about what that monster did to her. It's easy to sit in an armchair and pontificate about how (fill in the blank) is the reason (fill in the blank) is so broken though isn't it?
The problem is in application and accountability and a citizenry that's mostly asleep at the wheel, not in the existence of plea bargaining per se.
You do know that TiVo has at least 2 models, the Series 3 and the TiVo HD, that not only do HD but work with CableCard specs so that you don't NEED a separate set top box, right? As for being able to play a game while recording, why not? There is ample processing power, or the DVR component could even have a separate co processor to handle encoding/decoding/recording. We just don't know yet.
I am constantly amazed at the moderation when it comes to anything about Apple. Parent is most certainly not trolling, and seems to show a lot of understanding about how a corporate environment needs to manage mobile devices.
This is an apples and oranges discussion though, since the iPhone was never *meant* to be used in a corporate environment. Apple wouldn't even sell them to people with AT&T business accounts.
Anyways, parent should have been modded +5 Informative, since the statements were quite accurate, if not what fanbois wanted to hear.
Point out where I said we shouldn't have a Public School System. I didn't. I just pointed out one of the big reasons why the Government likes it. They want to educate kids *just enough* to be good citizen-workers.
Even small businesses can request a custom image be loaded on most of the major PC manufacturer's product lines. It's home consumers who get stuck with whatever the OS du jour is.
Businesses were *very* slow to adopt XP for many of the same reasons. Until the platform is patched up some and compelling business reasons come out in favor of migrating, they won't. It's been like that with every Windows release actually. This isn't news; it is normal.
Except that in this case the company suing isn't JUST a patent troll. They actually sell product. Wanna bet IBM can find a few patents they are violating in the thousands of thousands that have come out of Armonk?
IBM holds a lot of the IP that goes into the Cell. They have a very good legal department. This little company may just have bitten off more than they can chew.
I can see the IBM lawyers now..."Hmmm, interesting. Yes it may be possible that you have something there on this one patent. Let's see..." ruffles through a huge stack of papers in front of him. "However, we've discovered that you're also in violation of these 127 patents of ours. Now, shall we deal?"
Of course they care. Apple has always liked to have lockdown and control on their hardware. Look for cease and desist letters to be flowing from Apple's legal department as people start putting up 3rd party apps. Worse yet, they could use iTunes to disable 'modded' phones, or to just rollback changes by deleting 'illegal' software.
The ACLU unfortunately has an agenda and is known to cherry pick cases that further this. It has less to do with blanket Civil Liberties than it does with promoting a particular political agenda. On this issue I agree with them, but there is a general perception held by many that the ACLU is flawed and is just pushing a left leaning agenda. Perception is often more important than reality.

Agreed. This *might* have been mildly interesting news had it been posted sometime in 1999.
Why does it matter what OS a handheld gaming device runs? It's an OS, not a religious text...oh wait this is Slashdot...my bad.

Exactly, and my tax dollars shouldn't be used to pay for someone else's heathcare, either, nor their retirement. It is all part of the same mentality.
You are wasting your time. The battle for objectivity on Slashot with regards to Apple is LONG over. It isn't going to change either.

and the Hurd is still just around the corner. :(
Didn't you hear? They are timing the release of the Hurd to coincide with that of Duke Nukem Forever. They'll both be 'ready' sometime in early 2024.

I didn't know that caves had basements!!!

Primitive nuclear weapons are very large and heavy. The Saturn V would still be overkill probably though.
Seems like closing the barndoor after the chickens have already flown the coop though.
That would be the Insurance Industry then, which is the AARP's main source of income.
...enough said, though I wouldn't want to risk a paper cut down there.
Thank you. I for one would probably HAVE to have a good buzz on to let someone seal me into a tin can strapped to a giant bomb.
