    I support funding Aricebo for use to search for NEO's, but I don't want my tax money going to SETI. I'm sorry, but as cool as it would be to either confirm the 'WOW' signal or find a signal from an ET, it shouldn't be a priority for using tax dollars.

    Twitter actually works for Microsoft. It's reverse psychology; he rants and rants against their evils in such an inane and idiotic manner that it makes people feel sympathy for Redmond.

    I'll bet they pay him a good bit for it too.

    It isn't really worth responding to. I was just speaking anecdotally from personal experience and certainly wasn't whining. We all have had bad management before. Thankfully my current executive management is very competent.

    I fired it up last night to talk to some old UO friends. I was told that I would have to upgrade to connect so I did. The new client crashes every time I try to launch it. So, instead I tried Trillian and it worked. Maybe that's changed today; haven't tried yet. I will check it out after this con-call that I'm on.

    To millions of people even $50 is a lot of money. Your utopia sounds great, but in reality it's not that black and white.

    I think you meant to be funny, because it sure wasn't insightful. The 50-60 demographic (baby boomers) have more disposable income than most any two of us combined and enjoy their creature comforts quite a bit. They have HDTV and cable and broadband for the most part.

    Even the older demographics mostly have a lot of those things. Again, I *hope* you were trying to be funny, because the alternative is ignorance.

    I've reported directly to a couple of CIO's in a couple of different organizations. In both instances they were petty, clueless people. On the other hand, I've had customers whose CIO's were not so bad and seemed to have a good grasp. I don't think there is a one size fits all answer to this one, but it's true that quite a few of the CIO's I've interacted with have been what I would kindly call clueless idiots.

    Then again, they were smart enough to somehow get that high paying gig, so go figure. Many times though it's not what you know, it's who you know.

    No, your parents actually talked to real people, their friends, neighbors, relatives, etc. Word of mouth was literally word of mouth then, and guess what? They didn't always *have* to visit an eatery to see if it was good or not. They could often find that out from someone they knew and trusted rather than some anonymous author of a review on a website.

    It is entirely your fault and it *was* a conscious decision. Don't bemoan your choices; either embrace them or change them.

    You beat me to it. There is a world of difference between voluntarily giving your position and other information about you and your current activities, and the Government of Industry tracking your position and other information about your activities without the ability to opt out.

    That being said, I'm not interested. If I want people to know where I am going to be I'll tell them if they need to know, not post it or have some 'micro blog' tracking my every move. I don't need to blog it or broadcast it. Maybe I am showing my age but I am really finding all of this stuff to be getting increasingly silly.

    That's because our diets are very similar (omniverous) as well as many aspects of our biochemistry.

    Personally after civilization falls I'll be eating the vegans first though. Grain and veggie fed free range vegan...mmmm.

    When McCain has shifted it's been either to changing economic conditions (oil drilling) or due to his actually *listening* to his constituents (Immigration reform, taxes). I'm no huge fan of his, but I can respect a man who can change his mind when the facts change.

    Obama's flips and shifts have instead all seemingly been motivated by political expediency. New politics, indeed.
