One of the more charming aspects of *nix is that it's designed by and for people who have a clue. The more you make it easy to use by the common user, the more it becomes bastardized.
Darn, the common person isn't allowed in the Linux treehouse!
How about make a public bathroom of the future? I don't like that 1-foot gap on the bathroom doors & walls to the floor, nor the 5-foot gap from the ceiling.
I thought Quality Assurance people found bugs in a system, while sysadmins patronize me when I ask nicely for a piece of hardware, by repeating everything I ask.
Does anyone else get 99% of their dl requests stonewalled with "more sources needed"? Reminds me of all the failed transfers I had with napster, yet no problems getting mega-rare tracks from AudioGalaxy.
I was hoping with less and less P2P services, people would flock to a common one, hence boosting the available tracks out there.
What do you expect on a pro-linux site when there's an MS article? About 99% of the comments are just jabs at MSFT that have been done hundreds of times by Linux zealots. Nope, that routine never gets old around here.
As for MS hardware, I am most impressed with the IntelliMouse. I just wish(is there one already?) MS made drivers where you could have mouse "profiles". Currently, the thumb buttons only work for IE, where they would be great as undo/redo buttons in Photoshop, PSP, etc, or set 'em to what you like. I remember doing some tweak to turn the middle button(wheel button) on my Logitech mouse into a double-click action.
As for their MS keyboard, I just got one in my cubicle, and wonder why there's a "stop" button(I'm assuming for IE). Escape, located less than an inch away from it functions just fine as "Stop". Back and Forward are redundant since you can just Alt+leftarrow & Alt+rightarrow. Hopefully with a bit of searching I can make the buttons do whatever I want, and I'll just relabel them.
Checkered Flag was a disappointing race game. Seemed like a stripped down VR Racing, with no real excitement factor.
Iron Soldier was a disappointment too. I just couldn't get used to the controls, and eventually just got bored and smashed buildings.
Among one of the worst games was a MK-ripoff called Kasumi Ninja. I remember seeing a review, and one of the fighers was in a kilt. His special move? He lifted up his kilt and a fireball came out.
I swear the lack of licensing killed it. You dind't get Mortal Kombat, but really bad ripoffs like the ones mentioned above.
Then there was the whole battlemorph fiasco, which has got to have Duke Nukem beaten in terms of vaporware. It's sad if you lose the docs to a console's encryption scheme, delaying a game for years until after the console's achieved "Classic" status.
Don't forget the Jaguar had the plastic overlays you could put on the numeric keypad, just like the Intellivison. the Xbox controller was a breeze to use by comparison.
Wow, the PS dualshock controller, or even the Dreamcast controller sure has come a long ways.
I walked into a Sears after 9/11, and saw a patriotic set of underwear being shown proudly there. There were usa-flag boxer shorts, etc, and the big kicker of them all, a USA-flag thong.
Does one such exist? I'd love to have one just for the convenience of music stations when I get bored with Internet radio stations. I'd love to be able to point and click on my favorite shows(reminders, etc) without fidgeting with my roomate's all-in-one remote.
No, you see, Linux users drive the nonexistant "low end" computer market, retreiving old obsolete systems from dumpsters and turning them into firewalls, web servers, etc. Not much money changes hands, if at all.:)
In Leisure Suit Larry 2, there was a "grotesque gulp" sized drink. About the size of a garbage can, you died if you tried to drink it in the store. You had to keep it(you simply stuck it in your pocket, with the excuse that it's just a game), and made little sips on your long boat ride to the island.
And don't forget, on TV broadcasts of movies(or so it seems), they put in scenes you haven't seen before(which is typically filler, nothing meaningful to the plot) and butcher out other scenes.
I was watching Blue Thunder and saw a mishmash of things. The scene early in the movie of the nude woman stretched out was replaced with a woman clothed, stretching out.
Then there was at least 30 seconds of Murphy's wife making dinner(and a cat jumping around) that I haven't ever seen in my VHS copy of it. Strange. And don't get me started on the poor quality of the overdubbing of cuss words(apparently "fart" is a bad word now).
How about the fact that some things simply aren't AVAILABLE on CD? Yet, if I went to AG(before it "died") I could download all the Martha and the Muffins tracks minus a few songs? Had the CD been availble(and no, I'm not gonna get vinyl), I'd be more than happy to buy it.
Perhaps its just the genre of music I like, being rare and obscure early '80s music. The music stores don't seem to get the hint that I want to buy actual releases of Devo instead of the dang compilations. Yes, I want the not-so-popular tunes made by them and others.
I saw a company's demo of a kid playing some fighting game that used a webcam to capture his movments. I couldn't tell if he was trying to play the game or having a seizure. Sometimes you'll get a freebie or two, where you can pop bubbles, but it got boring quickly.
The first thing I did with SEUCK was take that Ikari Warriors-type game, and turned into a gang-themed game. Instead of opposing soldiers, you had crips and bloods dukin' it out. Instead of a tank firing sideways, it became a cadillac doing a drive-by.
There's already a booming mod commnuity for GTA3(pc version). SOmeone's making a whole new city with various tweaks here and there.
Man would I like to have GTA Twin Cities. There's also simple mods you can do, like make a car 15K pounds heavy, and any collision sends a car flying in the opposite direction.
Yeah, I was hoping I could try out this newfangled "lindows" thing, which seems to be no more than a well-polished Linux.
But if I have to pay for it(yearly?) it sort defeats the purpose of trying something other than Windows.

That's where you can do some innovation.
I thought Quality Assurance people found bugs in a system, while sysadmins patronize me when I ask nicely for a piece of hardware, by repeating everything I ask.
And just how many times will we need to upgrade 802.11x equipment? Once you get teh 802.11g hardware, they'll come out with 80211h-z.
With everyone running around with differing 802.11 hardware, not much of a revolution's gonna happen.
Does anyone else get 99% of their dl requests stonewalled with "more sources needed"? Reminds me of all the failed transfers I had with napster, yet no problems getting mega-rare tracks from AudioGalaxy.

Wow, that brings back memories.
I had LOGO for my TI-99/4A, but it "ran out of ink" so frequently. Never did get to try the next incarnation of it.
In school, we started with Logo, and went onto LogoWriter, which had text windows overlaid on it. Real nice.
I remember how to do a circle
repeat 100 [fd 1 rt 1]
I did it this way though, so you have finer control of the radius(pu is PenUp right?)
repeat 360 [pu fd 50 pd fd 1 pu bk 51 rt 1 ]
It took a while, but it worked.

I owned a jaguar once it went on clearence.

They should just give up and leave the robot inside there.
Then, hundreds of years from now, explorers will find it, and think ancient Egyptians had robot technology, completely skewing world history up.

What hath the terrorists brought us?
Where's bill plympton nowadays? Kinda funny seeing him push videogames. I think I saw him in a SNL commercial for some cheese-based trivia game.
A lot of us want portable music players with Vorbis support, right?
Uh, no, seeing is that I haven't heard of Vorbis until now.
Might as well ask "A lot of us want full SVG support on our Vectrex game consoles, right?"

I never heard of these big name games either. "Big name" games to me would make me think of Warcraft, Starcraft, Counterstrike, Half-Life, etc.
Oh well, just the Linux hype machine running at full speed again.
What's going thru webdesigners minds when they have URLs that stretch about 7-8 inches on my monitor?
Good luck posting that link on USENET.

I saw this for livejournal.meetup.com. I didn't feel like registering due to spam concerns. ATalk about an uninformative website.
