Yea.. im sure there will be many trolls here with big long descriptions of a heaven of a place to work, he takes the job, finds out it sucks, and he then may realize that he shouldn't ask slashdot about what they think of a corporation =)
Yea, Tony Hawk 3 is definately a great game, its worth buying a ps2 because of it..
And its nice to think that those who are buying the XBox will only get Tony Hawk 2 X or whatever they are calling it, but they will be getting Halo =(
Anyone know of a video card that has tivo like capabilities?
Ive been looking at the all in wonder cards from ati, all they mention the cards can do is timeshift up to 30min, mainly to skip commercials and stuff. I want to find something where I can record a tv signal and save it as a movie file of some sort... any ideas?
And to make my comment somewhat on topic, tick looks pretty good.

Religious wars are 2 groups of people fighting over who has the best imaginary friend.
I fail to see why making a copy of a cd is ok, but its not ok to use morpheus to get music.
In both cases you are creating more copies of the piece of music that the recording labels do not get money for.
Why is one not the same as the other?
I think part of it is that the RIAA gets a slice of the money that we pay when we buy blank tapes, and maybe blank cds, not sure if its like that yet though. So, in the end, the RIAA profits off of us making copies of their music, even though they say they are losing money.
They also said that last year music sales went down 8%, but in fact, single cassette sales went down 8% while most other music distrobution channels went up.
I think everyone needs to realize that the RIAA is not for the artists, they are there to squeeze every ounce of money out of us, and they want us to keep on coming back for more. They are not interested in keeping the spirit of music alive, they are not interested if their bands get paid well, because they can always find a new NSYNC. The RIAA wants a world where they can control all the information that goes to you, so they can decide who gets it, and what they pay for it.
One thing that the RIAA doesn't seem to understand is that the genie is out of the bottle. When everything is all said and done, its fairly easy to come up with a program that transfers a file from one pc to another. The whole internet is based upon the fact that i can send a file to you over this large network we are all on. Its really a waste of laywer money to fight this type of stuff, because it wont end, people are not going to just decide that they aren't going to do it anymore, especially since the RIAA is trying to shutdown all these services that the RIAA's customers are obviously interested in. I wonder if they realize that if all of their customers are using the internet to transfer music, that it might mean that the public is ready for a distrobution channel that is similar.
I still buy cds, probably not as much as I did before, but I will attribute that to having a new house with higher rent, yada yada. The RIAA could put a spin on that and say its because I get some music from morpheus or whatnot, but I really don't think its fair to say that. Well anyway, im off work, cutting this short.
Not sure if these would really stand the test of time, but I hope in 50 years I still have these books on my shelf.. that is if paper books are still legal in the future =)
J.R. Tolkien
This has probably been mentioned many times on the board but oh well..
And now that I think about it, most of the other authors are probably not the best out there or anything, but ive loved the books:
Micheal Chrichton (sp?)
Neal Stephenson
Clive Cussler
Robin Cook
Tom Clancy
The above books, most of them, really arent huge thought provoking books, but as an example, I bought the book Atlantis Found or something like that from Clive Cussler.. Didn't really think his books looked that good, but atlantis is an interesting subject in my opinion..
As soon as I got done reading that book, I proceeded to read the rest of his books in about 2 months time. This in my opinion shows a good author.
Stephen King is also a pretty good author, but I really can't get into his use of descriptions so much as I used to. Micheal Chrichton is another one of my favorite authors, but lately he hasn't come out with anything that good.. Airframe wasn't really as good as his previous works.
Ive also gotten into Robert Ludlam quite a bit, but once again he's not really any sort of author of the century or anything.
Well, thats what ive been reading lately, I enjoy books quite a bit, there is nothing like getting a brand new hardback book, cracking it open, and spending a rainy day reading.
Your processor is still going to be working harder running at a resolution of 1600x1200. Nvidia might want you to think that its all up to the GPU, but its not.
There's a few companies out there that do in house beta testing for games, I have a friend in seattle that does some testing for some game company over there.. sorry no URL though =(

I coined the term magnifying glass as I built this wonderous machine, one that collects the rays of the sun and can focus them on a single point, causing fire.
On my cable modem, I have a port for usb and for rj45, I really dont see much of a benefit of putting a cable/dsl modem on usb except to make it easier for mom and pop to hook it up..
BTW.. If you have one of these dsl modems that go to usb, do you see some sort of fake network card in device manager or what?
Id say the scariest thing ive seen in a game was when Resident Evil came out for the playstation. There is this part, near the beginning, where you walk down a hall, its all quiet and emtpy. You walk by this window that you dont really notice mcuh, and 2 dobermans jump out and start mauling you. I think it might have been the first time I have physically jumped out of my seat playing..
One bad thing you will come across when transferring files within a true dos enviorment is that all your file names will become truncated.. So, if you say that you boot to dos to transfer a half a gig of mp3's, oh, excuse me, mp3z, you should find out that they are all named "nsync~1.mp3" and so on..
And about the Deleting thing...
Of course with windows, you could always hold shift when deleting things, it has become second nature to me now, and it is a good way of keeping newbies from deleting files accidentally. I work in a call center fixing peoples computers over the phone. I talk to some real winners let me tell you, but I have found the recycle bin to be a handy thing..
Me: So did we get that video driver downloaded
Customer: Yes, I downloaded it and it didn't fix my problem, so I deleted the file (12mb download on a phone line)
Me: Well, lets look in your recycle bin to see if the file is there, because I dont think YOU ACTUALLY INSTALLED THE FILE.
We then grab it from the recycle bin and we are on our way.
Now shiny 3d graphics and 100 sound FX's is nothing new, I don't know why people are jumping at the Gamecube or PS2. Computers with a 3d card have been capable of such nice feats for quite some time.
Its kinda amazing to me that you dont know why people use consoles. The obvious factor is that a console is a lot cheaper then a pc, and a console does not need to keep up to date with drivers, updates, security fixes, etc. You say that computers with 3d cards have been capable of nice feats for a while.. That is like saying a ferrari can get you to work and back just like your yugo, why do you drive a yugo?
What would be cool is backwards compatibility. I mean you don't want to goto a store, buy a new shiny PC and not have it run any programs you currently own. That's just stupid. Why is it acceptable with consoles?
Hmm.. well, lets see here... You have an industry that has been going on for quite a while, it is used worldwide for everything from buisness to pleasure, and is designed so people with different hardware/software can communicate. Then you have a nintendo. They are cheap, real cheap, compared to a pc. After using a console for 2 years, you have gotten your 200 bucks of use out of it, so its not that bad to go out and get the newest console, I really dont mind that much and since these things DO sell, id say that not really many people mind shelling out 200-300 bucks for a new game toy.
See with consoles, they breed a seperate style of game. First off, I can almost guarantee you that if you buy a console game, one that came out just today lets say, you wont see any bugs in it. Console games rarely have any "bugs" in them that stop gameplay. Sure a word might be mis-translated, but it is not a show stopper. Console developers know that once it goes gold, its done. A pc game developer knows that this bug hes been working on for the past few weeks can be fixed later in a patch, so he/she is not inclined to take as much pride into the creation as a console developer would.
Actually they are calling it a Joined network, and an Unjoined network.
With Winxp Pro, you can join a Joined network (Domain) or an Unjoined network (peer to peer)
With Xp Home, you can only go to an Unjoined network.
Heck, you dont even have to go that far, you can sit in the confines of your own house knowing that xboxes are crashing all across the country. Gotta love the internet =P
1 - I need to take a shit, what should I do?
2 - Ive decided to go to work today, is that a good descision?
3 - Im watching a really bad show on tv.. im undecided if its ok for me to hit the channel up button, what should I do?
Ya.. this last Ask Slashdot sucks, what does this guy expect..
Yea.. im sure there will be many trolls here with big long descriptions of a heaven of a place to work, he takes the job, finds out it sucks, and he then may realize that he shouldn't ask slashdot about what they think of a corporation =)

I really fail to see the link between efficiency and walking on the moon..
Maybe they realized that the moon really does not have much to offer in terms of reserach, and they are now focusing on Mars. Is that not efficient?

So from what are you are saying, in a very roundabout manner I might add, is that these guys run around and shoot each other with pellet guns?
