I like the Battlefield 1942 engine, but I kind of hate how EA and Dice is milking the engine releasing games based on it with only graphics changes, while the engine is still somewhat "static", so most mods gameplay is not that all different. The engine feels like a non-engine, something you can't do different gameplay styles. And theres still bugs from the original version on the latest one.
Having that, I dont care much, except that seems that releasing soo fast destroy older communitys around older versions and add nothing. Is much like Battlefield is a episodic game, with several episodes, but not cross compatibility. You buy extensions of the game as new games, but these new "games" break backward compatibility, so break the gamming server community. Yea, It hurt the gamming scene.
Having that. I checked BF2142, and there are more about the problem. The engine is the BF2 one, with his problems and lack of flexibility. The gameplay is still good, but somewhat lost in translation from.... PlanetSide. Yes, because not only some ideas look ripped from PlanetSide, but are not well translated. This why If you like Battlefield 2142, you sould absolutelly download and play PlanetSide, because with the same hovertanks, pods, AMC, titan bases, etc.. is a much better, rich game, with a real MPORTS experience. Not only that, but seems that these poor villains of SOE able now to play the game to level 6 withouth pay, for free:D
And not only that, but PlanetSide is designed around a simpler engine, that give smoother gameplay, and as much more and different refreshing weapons.
And that is SAD. Because I like Battlefield, and the Battlefield gameplay. I like how DICE understand realism, and how mix realism and gamism to make a vivid experience. We have lost YEARS with new and new releases of Battlefield, but the engine is not much better. Meanwhile look at Quake, Unreal or other engines, theres eons of evolution on a few years.

Imho, the new shell changes adds tons of stuff new. Is a jump bigger than 2000 to XP for good. Because this people are tryiing to remove the ilogic from the dialogs, and creating tools so the applications become easyer to use, even for newbies.
Seems that maybe the core will not be a huge change for Vista, but the Shell will be a revolution. A good one. I am happy about that because I become bored withouth refreshing stuff on the computing scene:D

Quake whas not designed for OpenGL, and the initial graphics cards where a quality decrease. Whas speed that whas much better. Nowdays the GPU also enhance eyecandy, so GPU based games can look better, but the first cards where design for speed.
Imho, the first Quake2 screens look like crap because of that, designed for crappy 3d graphic accelerators. Even the mp2 format is "liquid" so render like crap.
Is hard for programmers to help users. Is also a bad idea to be the developper AND the tester. And this why we have teams. One guy can be a programmer, other guy tester, and another do the marketing/media stuff. And thats Ok. The problem here are tiny teams with tons of programmers, but not tester or not marketers. You really need people that think like clients, and is not a programmer.
2 has no replay value. 3 no idea why is on that list, dont look special to me. Maybe have you played the console version? 5 whas good, but there are other interesting games on that area. Zeppelin, Fort Apococalipse, Spindizzy. Blue Max whas somewhat lineal.

I dont like the idea because will be complex, but is posible. Complex mean easy to broke.
Most games are about what you can do, and what you cant do. Theres a Quake1 engine that able 10.000 monsters in a room. But is unplayble because is CPU limited. If you can able 10.000 monsters, you can have Quake Wars:Enemy Territory with a real-size army of enemys. 8000 instead of 80. And the game will FEEL bigger and deeper.
This enhance in a way that enhance even NEW gameplay styles. Check Spellforce if you can.
Theres a very good one, in the name of PornTube. Is good to get now a few porn videos. As a linux user I dont really like streaming. I want downloads, but the tube concept seems to work, and PornTube is a really fantastic site to navigate with only one hand. And is very 2.0 (community + css stiling + etc..)
Maybe not your tea cup. But Its very non-linear, fun, with a beaty history, scary at times. Its a masterpiece boy! If only other FPS where that non-linear and funny. Well.. we have the Oblivium and Morrowind games, the Black & White games, and Its Not Enough! We need more games with the Captain Blood feel!
Beyond Good and Evil is maybe one of the better games off all times. I am proud to have buy it and played it to end. Whats lotsa fun. The problem is that theres no more games like BG&E. Maybe Half-Life2 has a few details here and there, 0.1% of what BG&E provide.
Can I recomend this game, BG&E on the same level as MULE, ELITE and QUAKE.
BG&E is Pitfall II only 3D. Is "Agent USA" only funnier. Is "The Day of Tentacle" only more amazing.

Sorry to the ATI guys, but I switched from a ATI 9600XT to a similar Nvidia card to get 3d games working. With ATI was imposible to me. But with Nvidia a few simple steps and its done, I can play all my 3d games, even the windows games with wine. I think the architecture Nvidia has able better drivers, maybe the architecture ATI has is too complex to make simple drivers.

"In areas where a single supplier is dominant, particular vigilance is necessary to guarantee that this happens and that institutions do not find themselves inadvertently locked in to a particular supplier via, for example, a licensing mechanism."
Participating colleges will be asked to complete an online survey, along with a four-hour interview on campus.
The deadline for interested parties is the middle of July and the results of the review will be released in September 2006.

1) The white hat attitude. Complete morons are discarded. 2) Its a hole, and not a feature. Maybe the users want the system this way, and know enough about the tradeoff. 3) The hole being fixed. If is imposible to fix holes, maybe because lack or resources, this help nothing. Of course, the problem here is the lack of resources.
On real world, some people want to live with his doors unlocked, mostly on rural areas. Its that a "hole"?. Its not. What safety expert AND ha4xors fail to realice, its that the world is not about of safety for everyone. Some people like his doors unlocked, thanks. Other people dont know about that, and will love to know about a hole, and fix it.
