    You don't need an SLR for this. I use a Canon S30 and it stores the following info for each shot. I don't know what models support this but look for EXIF.

    The Edirol UA-5 USB Digital Audio Capture device might be what you want. Although it still needs external power so it is not completely portable. And for $300US it is not a bad price.

    As long as the two work together to improve the interface I see this as a good thing. Apple has always been known for its easy UI and that is what the Palm is all about. But I do not want the Mac desktop on my Palm. Although the menu hack does add a bit of that to the PalmOS now. Hmmmmm.

    This stuff has already been road tested. I think many of the Big 3 in Detroit have such systems in the works. Many agricultural companies like John Deere have developed similiar systems as well. Just think of the time savings for a farmer to program the combine to go combine a field. The major concern for this type of thing is the reliability and safety. What if someting malfunctions and the piece of equipment goes wandering off accros a highway or through a house. That is the only thing that is keeping this kind of technology out of cars and farm equipment.

    Adesso makes ergonomical keyboards that have either the pointer or touchpad built into the keyboard. I have a NuForm with the pointer. I use it occasionally but my primary pointer is my Logitech MouseMan+. The keyboard pointers only have 2 buttons so it makes it a little difficult in X.

    I agree. Big deal. They are just supplying a service to their customers who have probably asked this question over and over. Yes the document has errors in it, showing why they are trying to hire some Linux experts. But I see no need to cause an alarm over it. I am sure many OS'es these days as Wonko42 points out have some documentation on either wiping out other pre-installed OS'es or performing lossless repartitioning of the hard drives to install the new OS.

    What you want is called Rawdisk support. It is well documented by Vmware on their website and often discussed in their newsgroups. Take a look at the following sites for the specifics on how to set it up. I have used Rawdisks from the start since back in April when the beta's were released.

    You obviously live in the non-modem world. Try doing it over a 56k dialup. Not everyone has the luxury of dsl/isdn/leased/t1/etc.

    Debian has been releasing ISO images of its binary and source cd's for several releases now. I can't remember when they started, maybe with 2.0(hamm). So I would say that Mandrake and RH learned from Debian.

    I have heard that people are having problems with X recognizing all the memory on the some video cards. Try adding a VideoRam line to your Device section with the correct amount of memory.
