After months of trying to get my brother to read LotR he finally started and sent me this email which sums up Fellowship pretty well:
Very different to the movie isn't it? Lots of unecessary, and not very interesting detail. He likes to take his time, old JRRT. You know: they travelled along the creek before reaching an outcrop of green grass, which in turn lead to a valley of birches. Passing through them, they noticed a green mound upon which was some moss which has nothing to do with the story, nor does the ridge they then decided to walk across. The oak lined track they followed for several hours is also irrelivant, but it can be seen in a map in the back of the book. "Would you like me to carry that pack for you sir?" Sam asked Frodo obediently. "No thankyou Sam. Sit boy. Good Hobbit!" Frodo replied.
Not meaning to offend anyone that lives in the Ceduna area, but I wonder how many of the thousands of people that are going to have a look at the eclipse REALLY know how far Ceduna is from ANYWHERE. I have been there so I'd just like to tell people to be careful on the roads - fatigue gets pretty bad when you are driving in a straight line for hours on end. My suggestion is to break the trip up into at least 2 days - stop off in Port Lincoln - nice place (and you can see where they filmed the Australian version of Survivor!)

You'd want to be careful that you didn't get this confused with your microwave... although both would look great if you put a dvd in 'em and turned them on 'high'.
The author complains about how pointless the feature of Tablet Gestures are and "why would you use this if you had a keyboard infront of you?"
This guy obviously hasn't seen Minority Report with the hand-gesture interface - can't he see that this is where apple wants to go!!? Now THAT would be sweet!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but at the end of the movie, Motoko Kusanagi has a different body, right? It was a body that bateu found on the black market, right? Now I can't remember if motoko was still with section 9 or not - but I guess because bateu got her new body on the black market, then that would mean that she is no longer with section 9, right? So if motoko's not with section 9 anymore then this series can't be a follow on from the movie... can it?
And if you haven't seen the movie - you should have read the spoiler warning.
What's the bet that Microsoft will release Xbox 2 and 3 in a short time period? They will stick to the PC mindset which says "why squeeze most out of a system when you can upgrade?" That will be the downfall of the Xbox (and its predecessors) because they won't push the system to it's full potential. The original playstation had every bit of power used in its later games. This is what allowed it to become top console because it was around for years without changing (originally the ps2 was to be released in 1998 and ps3 in 2001/ 2002 but this was obviously pushed back).
"I feel like we shouldn't even bother unless we're going to give a compelling reason to go"
Uh... that's a pretty stupid thing to say. I mean, going to the moon has got us on the track to mars, hasn't it? It's not like the human race can just go "well, time to pack you're bags, guys, coz earh ain't much good to us anymore... oh wait a sec - sorry everyone we forgot we DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT SPACE TRAVEL!
You're all assuming that a sign will last 10,000 years in the open and still be readable? And it'll probably take only a few weeks before someone spray-paints their tag on it anyway...
Don't be stupid! The blob came from outer space on a meteor and when the old guy came to check it out it latched itself onto his arm... at least i'm talking about the original version... how sad.
Perhaps it's not just about money but rather pride. If people are allowed to use his characters they might show Lucas up. That wouldn't make George look good if there were people out there who did a story that was better than anything he could do and then he has to admit that it was a top film. By having the films limited to parodies and docos, this by-passes this problem because no-one takes parodies seriosly and a documentary with a story that uses characters etc from SW wouldn't make any sense...
So that's it. It's not money - it's the fact that he doesn't want to be replaced by some 'nerd' who can actually direct!
The problem with just eating vegies is that you have to eat so much more to get your "daily requirements". To get enough iron you can either eat a 500g steak or about 10 kilos of spinach. Granted, you could substitute meat for pills but that would mean you'd have to either produce your own iron pills or take a crap-load of pills with you. So in the long run it would probably be more cost effective to grow meat.
The trouble was that the animation was inconsistant. There were some points in the movie when you had to look very closely before you could say "this aint real!" and then other times you went "oh dear..."
This was due to the fact that they went back and re-rendered some scenes towards the end of production, but I guess they had to have a point where they drew the line.
Why no-one else is picking this company up is beyond me. There's this idea that all CG movies have to be for kids and Square were the first to actually try and break that mould.

Geekiness has reached a new high! Or should that be low...?

They had jedi's in 1851?
Yes they are... they just have really big feet...

Anyway, that's my 2
You forgot the option "my left nut"
Sure it's gonna cost millions per person, which is why we have people like Dennis Tito... and with a bit of luck, Bill Gates.

I always thought that you had to throw yourself at the ground and miss to avoid gravity...

This reminds me of that South Park episode with the chinpokomon game:
"Try to bomb the Pearl Harbour!"

Rev. Lovejoy: "Marge, have you ever actually read this thing? According to this we're hardly allowed to go to the bathroom..."
Aesthetic my ass! Sure it looks fine at the moment but what about when you have 600 cords hanging out the front!?
I avidly watched the series and was left hanging because I could never see the movies! Huzzah for DVD!
... now all I need's a DVD player. Shit.

Damn I'm hungry,

If it wasn't for the 'Red Bull' advertising in WipOut 2097, i never would have been introduced to the wonderful world of insomnia!
...you do know that the lightsabre's aren't real, don't you?
