I remember seeing this program in 1979 or early 80. It was an after school session on different computers and apps from some guys our CS teacher asked in. I took my father since he was interested too. If I remeber it ran on an Atari 800 and had like three animals in it. I remember adding aardvark, Does it eat ants?.
When I worked for a school board here, Corel offered Wordperfect Suite 7 for $10.00 per PC. That was $10.00 per PC in the school inculding all the ones it could not run on. Since most of the schools (48) in my districts had a vast majority of older PCs incapable of running it. It was decided to pass on this and stick with clarisworks. If we could have left out the older PC maybe we would have gone with it. After I left they aquired upgraded PCs and retired the older ones, but Corel had gone from the market and almost from the planet by that time.
As someone effected by the mess, I have good news, My pay is in the bank. No news whether they "fixed" the problem or used a work around, which is more likely IMHO.
It will be interesting if the other Canadian specialty channels complain if their new format does not fit the orignial license TechTv Canada had. TNN is running into this when it became SPIKE TV.
What does the Slashdot crowd think about the overall design and its downsides, such as power consumption on notebooks?"
With the specs to run Longhorn What kind a laptop. From the previous slashdot story.
'Microsoft is expected to recommend that the 'average' Longhorn PC feature a dual-core CPU running at 4 to 6GHz; a minimum of 2 gigs of RAM; up to a terabyte of storage; a 1 Gbit, built-in, Ethernet-wired port and an 802.11g wireless link; and a graphics processor that runs three times faster than those on the market today.'"
Cost - even the smaller water bomber's are expensive. Operating cost of a 747 would be even higher again.
Accessability - a 747 doesn't operate from small dirt airfields or remote areas. I can see one of these trying to fly from a larger area to a remote area to drop water. (See costs)
Speed - they'd be running a lot faster than most water bombers. I can here the STALL STALL warnings now.
Accuracy - See Speed.
They might be good for fast burning "California or OZ" fires but I not sure they would be much use for most medium size forest fires. IMHO
Maybe leave out the prepositions and it may have a shot. But then again I'm not into poetry or latin, only what I've read on the urinal walls. And I didn't see much latin there.
There was an old man from Nantuket... Oh what the F...
Porn has nothing to do with skin, fake, real or virtual. As a metaphor yes, but if they can CGI a money shot than they can just replace all the male "actors" and have the virtual guy instead. Not HIV or STD worries.
Call me a Carefree Canadian

Given the articles don't mention an OS and China's distrust of Windows.

The CRTC can pull them.
So if I'm saving money buy it for the HD rather then just buying the HD alone. Then wouldn't selling the empty husk be profit?
While I doubt slashdot will effect Ebay's website, I bet the price will be $90.00 by Monday.
Good time to sell them if you got them.
